the 95 squad had some of the best players NZ rugby has ever seen and even though they failed to clear the final hurdle thnx to the hands of the old enemy, the greatness of that team has been remembered fondly by us All Black fans.

so i wonder now after the heroics of the the current All Blacks whose core has remained the same as they became the first team ever to win back to back RWCs, what some of the peeps (kiwi peeps of course, but not limited to just ) all time All Blacks team would look like???

Dagg, big fast, good side step, booming kick, good dummy pass, good under the high ball. Didn't last long at the top though. He may not be done yet, we will see.
Christian Cullen video tribute

Cullen fantastic runner & smooth side step. Didn't show broad range of other skills but a master of what he did best. Incidently, notice on the first try the Bok player that tries to trip him
Overall assessment: Ben Smith
The problem in comparing them is that Cullen finished his career & the others haven't yet so we don't know how they will do in the remainder of their time. Still, I vote for Ben Smith at full back even if based on a projection of what he will do in the next few years.

 Another good one was Jeff Wilson who played wing as well...I always thought he was brilliant at times...the trouble is that there has been some much talent in the past that it's virtually impossible to single out...what about centre Frank Bunce and loosie Michael Jones. Even Rokocoko at wing was very effective.

Out of touch with modern day rugby you plank....Meads vs Retallick is a laugh....its like comparing a modern day wee open side flanker to a modern day lock.

ur probably not wrong there, ive always believed that players back in the days were much harder back then. a hardness that was diluted just a little bit with every new generation.

the flip side is, what the newer breed lost in hardness, they made up for with rugby cunning, fitness and athleticism.

meads may well have snapped retallick like a twig, but i doubt he would have ever been able to catch him.

Jarden kind of the 50s version on Milner-Scudder. A great.
Sullivan played against the great Boks of 37...supposedly very fast.
Nicholls the best of the legendary Nicholls brothers
Savage the dynamic scrum half after the war with a brilliant break.
Skinner scrummed on both sides and punched on both sides.
Catley, robbed of much of his career by WW2 many cognoscenti think he was the best NZ hooker ever.
Tiny white the great NZ lock that wore Jaap Bekker's boots on his back as a retribution for Skinner.
Pinetree Meads the only legend that competes with Richie...with Frik du Preez one of the two great locks of the day.
Peter Jones the harbinger of the modern rugby player and scorer of the legendary try.

JW, your Christian Cullen link is a repeat of the Israel Dagg link.
Here is a link to Christian Cullen's All Black tries. Not sure if it's the one you intended putting up but it's a truly breathtaking collection of tries . . . and check how many of them are long range tries. Don't think there's a player in the world whose collection of tries even comes close . . . not even Rupeni Caucaunibuca's.
Ben Smith is a very good player but he'll need to lift his game a few notches if he's going to match the great Christian Cullen who remains the best outside back I've ever seen.

My all-time All Black XV is the same as Naruto's except I'd have Justin Marshall at scrumhalf and my front row would be the great 1996 front row of Craig Dowd, Sean Fitzpatrick and Olo Brown. Oh and Fitzpatrick captains ahead of Richie!

That might be true in some context but certainly not in this case...size is not strength, it helps sure but real strength and toughness goes way beyond that...Meads was the best lock with Frik Du Preez...they were perfect...Matfield comes nowhere near them.

I'm of the opinion that men all round are not as tough as they used to be...did you ever see Frik Du Preez injured or Jan Ellis or Piet Greyling or more recently Henry Honiball (at least in my time) ...if it ever happened then I cannot recall?

Boxers today are softer than the Rocky Marcianos (he was small and boxed well below his weight)...even middle and lighter division fighters like Roberto Duran and Haggler were tougher than what goes around today.

Mannetjies Roux (small Springbok centre and wing) was extremely strong and tough and a legend and would have shone today.

Manhood has gone soft in the world...there are no adversities, like struggle and war...
I look at youngsters today in my own country....lost and weak...most of them have already given up the fight.

Going to gym and pumping iron does not make you a man...any fool can do that...it's heart and character that does that...you know that Saffex....you went to a great school that taught these values...Graeme and so did Maritzburg College...these values should never change but sadly this screwed -up world is doing it's damage in the marjority...ofcourse you will get the exceptions but I'm meaning in a wider context.
