In a stark admission on this week’s World Rugby Whistle Watch, revered former Test referee Nigel Owens acknowledged a glaring error in the officiating during last Saturday's Rugby Championship clash in Sydney, where Argentina edged out Australia 28-26. The match, critical for the standings, concluded controversially with a late Australian try from Filipo Daugunu, assisted by what Owens confirms was an undisputed forward pass from Andrew Kellaway.

The botched call not only stirred frustrations but also skewed the championship leaderboard, propelling the Wallabies from third to first, bypassing rugby titans All Blacks and Springboks. Owens, dissecting the incident, lamented the oversight by the officiating crew, stating, "To be honest, there isn’t really much debate about this one... it’s clearly a forward pass." His critique extends beyond the on-field referee to the supporting officials, emphasizing that such clear errors should be collectively captured.

"He may well have just glanced away for a split second to look at something else, particularly if a player is getting close to the touchline, and if he misses it then you would certainly expect the TMO to come in for something that is clear and obvious."

……………

An incredible mistake. The Bargies always seem to be at the short end of the stick

Good on him. Question remains why, in addition to some of the other dodgy calls we've seen this year that almost defies logical explanation.

I can buy that the ref may have been unsighted, there's a lot of players between him and the action out wide, and the AR is not in line either and checking for foot in touch (or that's what I assume he's doing crawling down the line like a thief in the night). TMO took no time about it.

On the same note, I think JOC's pass to Fraser was also forward in that final try movement.

Argies aren't angels though. Check the second last try and see Choco holding back JOC after the final pass, preventing him from running a support line.

Nor checking that pass was hard to understand. And yet in some other match they will go back 3 phases to a dubious knock on. It’s almost as if they fine tune the rules and what they are going to look at, every game.

That was so blatantly forward and a complete insult that it was not picked up

It gave the Aussies a crucial bonus point did it not?

Another thing that wasn’t called Jordie Barrett’s tackle on Kolbe started with heavy head on head contact

Regarding head contact, watch Christie's bullshit reaction at 45:06 as Wiese hits him. Hand goes straight to his face as he's prone on the ground even though we can see Wiese's head didn't come close to his face. I'd vote for them reviewing this shit and giving these diving/acting players a card. It's a disgrace to the game.

Yes a yellow for diving inoculates us against the soccer disease.
