After spending all day digesting Chad le Clos' taunts from halfway around the world, Phelps beat the South African's time from the world championships to win the 100-meter butterfly at the U.S. national championships Saturday night.

Phelps churned through the water on the return lap, far ahead of everyone, and touched in a dazzling 50.45 seconds. He was nearly a second faster than his gold-medal winning time at the London Olympics and, more important to Phelps, he went faster than Le Clos' time about eight hours earlier in Kazan, Russia, where he won the world championship in 50.56.

A little modesty used to be the South Arican way....now Le Clos is swimming around with egg all over his face.

You apparently are lost again because you do not keep yourself up to date on anything.  At the latest Swimming World Cup meet in Chartres over the past weekend Le Clos won the 100 meter butterfly in 50,25 seconds.
Where you got the taunts story from heaven only knows - there never was a bad relationship between Le Clos and Phelps and there was nothing in the SA media about any so-called taunts.   It must have to do with what appeared in the US media.

Look at the FINA Swimming World Cup site - Le Clos together with four other swimmers were at a media question and answer show.   All that Le Clos said was that it was great to see world class swimmers taking part in the event.  He never made any reference to ALL world class swimmers. There was no taunt in what Le Clos said - all he meant was in general world class swimmers were at Chartres meant as a compliment to FINA and the organisers of the event.   Incidentally Lochtie was not their either - he opted out after informing the organisers that he would be there.
"A little modesty used to be the South Arican way....now Le Clos is swimming around with egg all over his face."

This is a gross insult of a swimmer regarded by most people in the swimming world as a model and if you ever watch swimming events on TV you should be ashamed of yourself in writing that.   piece of absolute junk.
Are you again befuddled by your age BS mania or what? Incidentally Le Clos won 4 gold medals in the Chartres meet - namely the 50, 100 and 200 meter butterfly and the 200 meter backstroke events.

"The comments were interesting," Phelps said, with a knowing grin. "It just fuels me. If you want to do it, go for it. I welcome it."

Following others such as Milorad Cavic who tried to get under Phelps' skin, Le Clos launched a verbal assault from Russia, apparently confident that he had put up a time Phelps couldn't beat. And, rest assured, this thing has gotten personal, even though they are racing in different worlds and aren't likely to meet until they get to the Rio Olympics next summer.

"I'm just very happy that he's back to his good form, so he can't come out and say, 'Oh, I haven't been training' or all that rubbish that he's been talking," Le Clos said. "Next year is going to be Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier."

Le Clos' father even got in on it, declaring he wasn't even bothering to look at the times Phelps was posting at the junior-varsity meet in Texas, where the winningest athlete in Olympic history was forced to swim after he was banned from the world championships as part of his punishment for a second drunken-driving arrest.

"However fast Michael goes, we go faster," Bert Le Clos told The Associated Press in Kazan. "I don't care about his times, because I know my son is going to beat him."

Phelps responded with his fastest 100 fly ever in a textile suit.

Challenge answered.

"There are a lot of things I could say. But I won't," Phelps said. "I'm going to let what I do in the pool do my talking."

All of this is setting up a tantalizing rivalry for Rio, which actually started when Le Clos stunned Phelps to capture gold in the 200 fly at the London Olympics.

In recent months, Le Clos was a bit miffed when Phelps jumped back into that event with some pointed comments about the times not improving all that much while he was in retirement.

"I don't do it to talk trash," Phelps said. "I do it to state facts. Some people went back and checked my facts about the 200 fly, and I was right. I know my facts about the sport of swimming."

Over the last two days, they went back and forth without ever seeing each other face to face:

- Phelps put up a stunning time of 1:52.94 in the 200 fly Friday night, the fastest by any swimmer since he set the world record in 2009 in a high-tech bodysuit. Among the times he beat: Le Clos' winning performance at the last Summer Olympics and Laszlo Cseh's upset victory at worlds, where Le Clos was the runner-up.

- Le Clos came back Saturday with his victory in the 100 fly and couldn't resist pointing out that Phelps had not done a time that fast in six years.

- He has now. Phelps responded about eight hours later with the best time in the event since those rubberized bodysuits were banned after 2009, and significantly faster than his 51.21 that was good enough for gold at London.

"I'm doing the work I used to do," said Phelps, who insists he has turned his life around since the DUI arrest some 10 months ago. "It's not rocket science. You have to do the work to get fast times."

Phelps hasn't called out Le Clos by name but made no secret that he wanted to go faster in San Antonio than the winning times in Kazan in his three main races.

Two down, with only the 200 individual medley left on Sunday.

"I have not been that fast in a really long time," Phelps said.

Le Clos implied that it was easier for Phelps to put up fast times in San Antonio because he's not racing the best swimmers in the world.

"Look, I don't want to say it's easy to swim by yourself, but it's a lot harder when you know Chad le Clos is coming back at you the last 50 meters," Le Clos said. "That's what he's got to think about really."

Phelps shot back, pointing out that Le Clos actually had the faster time on his first lap of the 100 fly.

Which meant, of course, Phelps was much faster on the return lap.

"I just speak the facts and the truth about the sport," he said, getting in one last dig at his rival.

Where did the above report come from?   I have not seen anything in the local media and this seems to be something that was published overseas.  However, to blame Le Clos alone for it is just not on.  Phelps must have said something about Le Clos that let to the following comments:-
""I'm just very happy that he's back to his good form, so he can't come out and say, 'Oh, I haven't been training' or all that rubbish that he's been talking," Le Clos said. "Next year is going to be Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier."
What was the rubbish that let to the above comments I wonder?  Was it the normal American way of attacking competitors and what did it entail?  Without that we can hardly take only exception to what Le Clos was saying.   "I am just happy he is back to good form" shows good sportsmanship - what followed must be a response to what Phelps said previously.
However, thanks for the info and the report - but one has to wonder what really happened that let to Chad's comments.
However, what happened subsequently was that Le Clos set a faster times than the improved time of Phelps in Chartres this past weekend in the Swimming World Cup Championships.  He took the 100 meters butterfly gold medal in 50,25 seconds.

 Thanks Pakie
This must be one-sided stories in the US without reference to what preceded the Le Clos comments.   I do not think that Le Clos ever commented negatively on an issue and he must have been seriously provoked to come out with the second part of the comment.
To write that he is a cad based on stories in the US media is certainly uncalled for and really is made without regard to all facts pertaining to the situation.

It’s one of the head-to-head matchups that everyone else on planet swim will be talking about ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and now, at least half of the participants in that grudge match has begun the conversation as well.

South African swimmer Chad le Clos has referenced his chief butterfly rival Michael Phelps twice via his social media accounts in the last two days.

First, on Thursday, Le Clos Retweeted a Tweet that was sent to him by sports journalist David Isaacson. Isaacson’s Tweet referenced an earlier Tweet by an inspirational sports quotes account (@Sports_Greats) that posted a famous Phelps quote: “Nobody is going to put a limit on what I’m doing – Michael Phelps”.

Isaacson retorted with his own commentary that began with “Except for @chadleclos”, which Le Clos then Retweeted to his 173,000 followers.

https://twitter.com/David_Isaacson/status/604906202141728769

Then, on Tuesday, Le Clos posted a picture to his Instagram account from the sign-in page for the Aspire Dome in Qatar, where he’s beginning a 7-week journey that will include many competitions in Europe on his way to the World Championships.

When Le Clos arrived at the pool, the empty pool had a sign-in page with a sample name of “Michael Phelps” typed at the top to demonstrate how to correctly fill the page in (ironically, Phelps has never swum a meet at that pool).

Le Clos captioned the photo:

“AS I WENT TO TRAINING THIS AFTERNOON, I FOUND #DESTINY, HOPE YOUR READY FOR ME #RIO2016#REMATCH#CLEC

With an obvious reference to the two swimmers’ battles at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Le Clos used the hashtag “rematch.” At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Le Clos beat Phelps in the 200 fly – an event where Phelps was almost untouchable for a decade – but the American won the 100 fly for the third-straight Olympic Games.

While the age difference means that this rivalry won’t ever be quite what Phelps-Cavic had in the last decade, it’s clear that Le Clos has his eye on Phelps none-the-less.

Nothing in the above calls for calling Le Clos a "cad" as Mozart has done.  It is uncalled for and is crude to say the least.
I do not think that anybody would say there will not be rivalry in the pool between Phelps and Le Clos and the competition between the two can only be to the benefit of both.  In individual sport competition is always beneficial for the participants involved.

Chihuahua yipping at a Great Danes heels.
Even if Le Clos is able to beat Phelps in the twilight of his career, it means little and proves nothing. Fast times were only a byproduct of what Phelps was able to accomplish. Le Clos' showmanship is misplaced but it will add some interest.

Le Clos did beat the time set by Phelps at the Chartres meeting on Saturday and Sunday - so I stay with my comment Mozart had no right to call Le Clos a cad. .  Phelps was a great and will always be recognised as such.
Showmanship is part of international sport and is not only assigned to Le Clos - many other sportsmen and sportswomen do the same, especially in the modern era of telecommunication.

You are always a bitchy nasty fool and one that is despicable as well.   You attacked a person without ever studying what preceded the comments of Le Clos based on the US propaganda machine stories only.
That is what makes you the silliest human being I have ever cone across.   Why would le Clos say what he did say?   What caused him to say what he did say?  What makes you even more ignorant is your initial comment about the time of the 100 meter butterfly comparing Phelps time with the time of De Kock in the World Championship and then claim a huge advantage - not knowing that the next day Le Clos better his time and that of Phelps by crca 0,20 seconds not in a local University event - but in the Swimming World Cup event.
This equals the BS you spread on this site and shows a petty-minded person with a  nasty hatred of people you know nothing about.
What a proud South African you are?   You are the type that we in SA can say of - g ood riddance of bad rubbish.

Wrong again Potty Mouth. Read this;

Chad Le Clos earned another title in the men’s 100 butterfly, winning with a time of 51.04. American Tom Shields fell on the wrong side of the touch once again with a second-place finish of 51.27.

So his winning time was not 50.25....it was 51.04. Just another lie in the long list.

And by the way, clean up your language.

Out of date as per normal again.  That was in the WC event in Moscow last week - in the Chartres event this past weekend it was the time I gave by winning the 100 meter butterfly.   What you do not know is that the World Cup events (8 meets) are structured in clusters.
The cluster the past week was Moscow and Chartres - so you missed out on the second meet of the latest cluster.  To make it easier for you to understand he full programme is as follows:-
August 11-12Moscow (RUS)August 15-16
Paris-Chartres (FRA)
September 25-26
Hong Kong (HKG)
September 29-30Beijing (CHN)October 3-4
Singapore (SIN)
October 28-29
Tokyo (JPN)
November 2-3Doha (QAT)November 6-7
Dubai (UAE)
What you also do not know is that Le Clos has been the winner of the Male component of the Swimming World Cup in 2013 and 2014 and that he broke both Phelps World Records in the Short Course category. He also was the FINA Swimmer of the year in 2014.
However, your constant rubbish based on deficient knowledge is irritating to say the least and you uncalled for attack on Le Clos is as per normal petty-minded and childish.  Not that you are any better in the case of rugby where your dishonesty ios notorious .

Le Clos' time on Sunday, 16 August 2015 at Chartres in the 100m butterfly is 51.04. If you're referencing another event, give the exact time and date that it took place.

Well if you Google "Chad le Clos 51.04" you get pages of results connecting that time to his name. If you Google "Chad le Clos 50.25" you get nothing connecting his name to that time. And then of course there are the ton of pages listing the Chartres 2015 results all agreeing on 51.04 - without exception.

It's not only that Pottymouth Mike is wrong....it's the string of insults that accompanied his error. Now the deep dive. Perv really likes Chad. Seems like an ok kid, but his father is an embarrassment.

Phelps is certainly no role model, his mother was also a problem early on, but rapidly pushed into the background.
