It is indeed unfortunate what has transpired in RSA for all law-abiding people but it was not as a result of the expats living in Canada or the USA but by the criminal elements on the continent you call home.
I truly hope and pray that someone comes along with the answer to all the issues facing you folks and that you can all live a harmonious life in RSA and that the true potential of all will flourish.
Now on the issue of deserting a sinking ship as you stated. Even at a young age, I was determined to make the most of my life and to be able to provide for my family to the best of my ability.
Unfortunately, the SA government at that time was more interested in looking out for their supporters with most if not all government officials on the take at all times.
So to cut a long story short this system of government did not and never has or will be acceptable to me so I made plans to start a business outside the borders of RSA and secure a life for my family.
With a partner overseas I ventured into business and we went on from one in the Middle East to what we eventually built up in North America. At no time did I do business with any RSA companies or banks.
Regarding military service.I was called up to do my Active Citizen Force nine months stint in my first year at university and besides having to put my education on hold I completed my call up and remained an ACF member up to the time we moved out of RSA. Attending all the bi-weekly drills week-end camps and all the rest as required by the force.
During that time I was an active member of 1st Parachute Battalion stationed out of Tempe in Bloemfontein and having the distinct pleasure of serving under people such as Captain Hannes Botha ( a Springbok flank) and S/S Harry Findlay who was an SA boxing and New York Golden Gloves champion. Any ex-Bats who read this blog will know who I am referring to and would be able to support my claims.
 I never deserted a sinking ship as you assert we expats did but made a new life for my family where we could be safe, secure and prosper from our efforts while at the help others.
Lastly, if you go back in RSA history you will find that a gentleman an ancestor was the first person to be legally granted land in what is now RSA.

It seems safe to assume that most politicians are liars and cheats. (Not as bad as African politicians- but untrustworthy non-the less.
Trum-p was already linked to a Russian backhander deal, only a few weeks after he took office. This resulted in certain people getting fired from their jobs.  This particular deal was probably in place before Trump even entered office- however I expect he will be linked with new dodgy deals.
Bear in mind that some of these deals are being driven by the corporate arena- and the politicians sometimes just go along with these.
The politicians change, but the backhand deals seem to continue.

Let me answer the last one first. I do not want to comment on the religious beliefs of politicians or anybody else for that matter unless they are a threat to others. Now, to get back to the rest. I do not see DT as some kind of super hero or idol and when the election campaign started off I said that I was glad that I wasn’t American and had to choose between the two. I have, however come to change my mind about DT in a few ways. For one he doesn’t just jump from one opinion to the next like some would want the case to be. A hell of a lot of what he says nowadays is exactly the same as what he said during the election campaign. In addition there are numerous video clips of interviews with him from as much as thirty years ago when he said the same things. As for the Russian story. The Democrats and the MSM media has been going on about this so called collusion for more than two years and in that time, they have yet to find a single shred of evidence. They had both the FBI Director and the head of the NSA in a hearing where both of them agreed that there was no evidence whatsoever of such a collusion or a deal. You yourself have just said that you believe this, that and the other about some “deal” that you believe would come to light. Based upon what? The person who was fired was fired because he did not disclose what he did. That was what DT did. What did Obama do in these circumstances? He protected the culprits. The Uranium deal was not driven by corporates. The govt had to sign off on it. Hillary was the Secretary of State and she was directly involved and the Clinton Foundation got a huge kickback that was paid directly to the foundation. In addition Bill suddenly got millions from speeches that he delivered in Russia. I’m not even going to go into the Iran deal. You can do that yourself. Hopefully DT will manage to turn that one around like he withdrew from the Paris Agreement.

Where did I say that Tr.ump is responsible for the Russian deal? I said he was involved in it as soon as he became president- because it must have existed "before" he became president. 
However, I expect that he will in the future be linked to new dodgy deals- not all of his own doing of course- because Corporate America will propose new under the table deals. The government then rubber stamp them.

REPORT: House Investigators File Motion Demanding Fusion GPS Obey Subpoena To Reveal Bank Records

Last week, Fusion GPS, the firm behind the infamous ‘Trump Dossier,’ requested a U.S. District judge to block investigators from accessing its bank records. Not so fast, says the House Intelligence Committee, who filed a motion demanding Fusion GPS obey the subpoena to reveals its past financial transactions.

The key to answering many of these questions lies with information in the possession of Fusion GPS, as well as records of one or more Fusion accounts at Defendant Bank,” the motion continues.
