This kid is the best young flyhalf to emerge since readmission. On Saturday he took high balls with courage, made some tough tackles, beat three defenders and made a clean break....and kept a clean sheet on goal kicks, as he did against NZ.

But he also turned the ball over six times...finally leading to Lambie and our first missed kick in two weeks. The crowd's reaction howling for Lambie was scarcely less rabid than that of the media. But that's the surest way not to have a good WC.

Pollard made errors of commission on Saturday....trying to find touch right in the corner, making the kickoffs as lofted and as short as possible. Somebody needs to tell him to build in a margin for error....it's happening too much. By contrast Carter was giving himself a 15 m margin on those penalties to the corner.

Pollard is also playing a flat Honibal like game, which in it's nature is more risky than Lambie deep in the pocket. Take a bit of that risk away, allow the kid some patterned play and he will settle down and be our match winner.

There is finer points Pollard must attend to - but his handicap is that he is being coached by the same people who destroyed Morne as a flyhalf - but maybe Morne was not coachable.
I think expert advice from players like Honiball and Stransky would help a lot.

Nothing wrong with additional coaching ... nothing wrong with a helping hand guiding one to improvement.

Pollard cracked under the pressure and cracked badly.

That surprised me.

Still, he has a lot of talent and shouldn't be thrown away for the useless Morne Steyn.

That's one man who doesn't have talent at all.

Let us stick with the two 10's we have ... guide them ... fill them with confidence ... they'll dazzle us with their talent.

Lambie should however take up his rightful spot as our starting 10.

I'm curious, what do you think Lambie will do for us. If not cracking under pressure is one of those things...I direct you to the Welsh test. Smaller, slower, more inclined to panic....much less upside.

Is there an opponent he has outplayed? There was that one Currie Cup game in 2010, but the Shark pack utterly murdered the Stormers in cold blood.

Be assured most of the members in this site would have anybody ahead of the talent-deficient  Morne at flyhalf.   If ever there was a match-loser - it was Morne in some cases not successful despite determined effort by him to lose tests.   Lambie is not the robotic player Morne is a star in.
Morne had his moments - far too few though - and that was not in the past four years where he never had a creditable performance in any game.  .
Insofar as  comparison between the two players is concerned - Lambie is talented and can read games an may decisions.  Morne is robotic - decision have have to be made for him before matches and he cannot see when to change what he  ws told inm advance.
Sorry a bench player from Stade Francais is the notch below Earl Rose as a flyhalf,

I agree Pollard needs coaching to build his confidence & continue to develop his skills. Will he get it that is the question.

I hear what you say, Mozart ... but let's be fair toward the lad.

Morne was given an extended run and found wanting ... so was Pollard.

Lambie has never been given a proper shot to play flyhalf at test level ... I'm talking about a proper decent extended run.

Not a random match every now and then ... with the inevitable axing there after ...

He's been chalked up as cover for flyhalf as well as full back.

Then he's this ... then he's that ... living on scraps of game time.

Just like you, Meyer doesn't like him either and so does everything he can to keep him on the bench.

A proper shot and let's see what happens.

Pollard has it all and at 21 is growing into the role. How can there not be a few hick cups.Lambie is a better flyhalf than 15. Nice calm head and plenty of courage. Meyer needs to bring them both on.

Lambie hasn't played one convincing test at flyhalf...nor for that matter did he play one convincing game for the Sharks this year.

L ambie is not a 10 at all. He is a defensive fullback.

Good points Moz. Need to keep running him out there, but he needs to allow the game to slow down for him and back off the throttle just a touch. Meyer is giving him every opportunity and more.
Lambie is not the answer, just a versatile sub.

Meyer is not a skilled backline coach. His field of expertise lies more with the forwards.

I will not be surprised if Pollard still plays with the skillset he had in his U20 days, because I just simply can not see how an utterly useless assistant backline coach like Ricardo Loubser can add any value to the Boks backline.

Jake side-stepped the obvious issue by giving Eddie another title.  We need an Eddie to give the team some strategy. For example the de Villiers break was constructed very much like Kriel's try vs NZ. We need a few more tricks.

I actually thought there were a lot of interesting ideas against Australia, most fans missed what were some very elaborate formations and support structures. The planning from phase to phase and in terms of field positioning was excellent. We saw less of that against New Zealand as they degenerated the game into scrappy and unstructured 1v1 affairs which they love. Against Argentina the team was unbalanced in the backs and the pack pulverized, no team can play attacking rugby being bullied that heavily.

There were some good things in the English pool test, particularly from F du Preez. But it was never very elaborate. For me the main thing was the players were confident in what they were doing. And the defence was superb.
Contrast that with the uncertainty we saw in the last 20 minutes against Oz and NZ.

So I agree the were  some good things, but the players became edgy under pressure and defensive structures broke down. More importantly Pollard seems  poorly directed and Allende is not getting the need to bring up the defensive lines.

"More importantly Pollard seems  poorly directed"

When Pollard delivers a poor performance, it's the coaches fault. He's not being directed properly.

When Lambie is shunted around from pillar to post, given scraps of game time ... off the bench ... sometimes as 10 cover and others as a replacement for 15, it's his fault ... he's just not good enough.

You guys are determined to deny Lambie a fair shake ... just like your coach.

I like what Blikkies had to say ... in fact I think he's hit the nail right on the head.

"Meyer is not a skilled backline coach. His field of expertise lies more with the forwards.

You are bias, Mozart. Determined to continue with your tired and elderly selection of yesterdays heroes.

It's pointless trying to debate with you.

Fine, no need to debate with me...don't fret yourself. But preferring Pollard to Lambie is hardly being determined to select old players.

What I find amusing is you are willing to select Kriel the flank, Labuachagne, Joe Petersen based on S15 performance....but not Lambie. You say he has had no chance to settle. But he has been the Sharks10 for 2 years.....started each year brightly, gradually become less certain and then got hurt. Same with his Bok flyhalf tenure.

Lambie can be an understudy, sometimes even look good being an understudy, but he can never carry the opera.

Now you wanna debate ... ??

Actually ... selecting Morne Steyn is more up your alley ... isn't it?

Please use your head for just a moment ... there happens to be a big difference playing at 10 for a super rugby franchise than in a test match.

I take it you know this ... right?

Lambie's super rugby season was a good one.

He played 7 matches this year and showed his class in every match. He was badly missed when injury sidelined him and was shown to be head and shoulders above the hapless Fat Fransie whom you favour as a possible Bok 10.

My selection of Patrick Lambie is most definitely due to Super Rugby form ... like the rest of my picks.

Simply put ... he is the best 10 in the country ... and should have been given a proper shot at the Bok 10 jersey.

I see you haven't named your match 23 ... ??

Any reason why?

Showed his class.....how?

Cheetahs....lose

Lions...win

Bulls....lose

Stormers....lose

Cheetahs....win

Chiefs...win

Saders....lose.

A 43% win ratio in spite of playing only at home in 4 out of the 7 matches. Why is this loser so critical to Bok success when he can't lead the Sharks to beat the Cheetahs. Get real....Lambie has never been associated with positive results.

You cannot debate anything with the asshole.  He was the one who said that the kick at goal that clinched the AB test last was not a pressure kick because Lambie made it.  He wants Fransie the useless at 10 - and would never admit when Fransie or his other hero Morne makes bugger-ups.   He would lie and scream about players - mostly lies since he cannot resist it.
A typical example is the 16 line out calls  in the last test - when calls were only made in 11 line-outs.   That is the kind of BS he specializes in.
I think that this campaign against Lambie is due entirely to the Steyns factor and it is best not to listen what this old ape is saying.
I still think that Lambie is a good flyhalf - but hesitate to select him ahead of Pollard.

You say Lambie clinched tha t test with a pressure kick, yet minutes before that he missed a drop goal bang in front of the posts just outside NZ 22! More like he was lucky to get a chance to make amends. I won't deny him that moment, but if you are going to try and use that as a reference to BMT then you are sadly mistaken! He also got run over towards the touchline in a NZ final surge into our territory before Duane won a breakdown penalty.

Lambie is Halfpenny without the reliable boot..a traditional fullback. Not a bad thing if you want to play a traditional game.
