Positive News for the Springbok squad

Latest news is that if Willem Alberts is not pased fit for play this week - he will be sent back to SA.   Although i do not like to see a player injured - I must admit that his selection to the squad was a serious mistake by Meyer and he should never have been in the squad.   Alberts have had a horribly poor performance record in Super 15 in 2013 and 2014 and in the latest test in June 2014 he was poor.
He was injured in June 2014 and since then played in only three matches in 2015 - he was atrocious in performance in all three matches.   The problem was he played in one game in March - was injured in that match and was laid off for another two months before he played a further 2 matches.  In the second of the latter two matches he was injured again and was then off until the August away test against Argentina.  In that game he was bog ordinary - but was injured again and did not play any further rugby.
Under the circumstances his departure from the squad will not be a loss and it may even be a blessing in disguise.  I think it opens the door for bringing in another opensider like Kriel or even a back-up like Labuschagne who has played on both sides of the scrum and even at no 8.    .       

 If he really has been sent back then they must call up someone, maybe Kriel like you said or how's Coetzee's injury return going? 

Maybe even Brussouw?

 Blob, the fields look lovely but that does not mean that they are not softer than we might think are or than what it looks like. Those pitches are never allowed to "dry out". If you have ever been to a football match you would know. They water the pitches before the football matches and again during half time. Villa Park, like most football pitches, also has a so-called hybrid pitch. That is a pitch made up of artificial grass "mixed up" with natural grass. There are a number of rugby fields in the UK, nowadays, that also have these kinds hybrid pitches.

 Will we even be allowed to bring a replacement? If Alberts was injured when the squad was named, isn't it against the rules to replace him? Excuse me if I'm being an idiot here, but this was just how interpreted the laws, i could be way off the mark though

If Alberts was fit he may suit the physicality of this world cup. 
Although he may be past tense as he has niggling injuries and has been poor over the last 2 years for the little time that he has played. 
I suspect that it has already been decided that he will leave the squad. The loose forward replacement. The Stephanie at 7 episode was a disaster. He is not ready to start. Brussouw or Cotzee are the only 2 options that Meyer will consider
He does not have much skill but he is a brute. Starting with him to soften the opposition before bringing on a faster loosie when the game opens up. 

 I think most people missed the reason for the selection of Alberts is tied up with the fact that he is supposed to augment the performance of the Tight 5 as a result of the little contribution Matfield makes to that component of the game.
Alberts is in fact not a loosie at all - he is some sort of lock or even prop that is used as a Tight 5 player.  In all the games he played in he did less than the much-maligned Du Toit did in the games he was involved in over the past two months.   Matfield went  missing in the Japanese test and that was the reason for the way in which Du Tout was used in that test - where Alberts was supposed to start and Du Toit was brought in  at the last minute.   I would not put too much emphasis on the fact that he "failed" in that test.  The only game Du Toit played in since his injury in March 2015 was against Argentina for 17 minutes - where he did more than Alberts did in the 63 minutes he played in that test.      
However, if Alberts is sent home I think that a loosie that can be used to support the openside as well as the blind side would be looked at.  Brussow is not usable as such,  and if it has to be an opensider only, it is more likely that Kriel would be called up since I do not believe that Coetzee is ready to play as yet.   
There may be another problem looming as well,   and that is the fact that Matfield left the field of play on Saturday with an injury.  The last time that happened he was out for three weeks and in his return game - the Japanese test - he was putrid.   .   There will be clarity on his injury only later today.   If he cannot play for a similar period (ie in the remaining two pool games and the quarterfinal) it will reduce our lock resources to three - which is also problematic in any event.
We will have to see how things develop this week, but as I understand it any replacement will only be allowed to play in the USA game and not the test against the Scots.  

If fat Alberts is to go home and a replacement allowed. It must be Brussouw.  

 Nah Brussow is just a fetcher, in the NH you well need a player more diverse then that. Arno Botha would be good, good ball carrier. Or Kolsi possibly.

Kolisi is already in the squad, I think we're well stocked with ball carriers with PSDT able to play there too but we're missing a true fetcher
I think they might use this chance to bring in Oupa if they're allowed to. 

 Oupa is not a ball fetcher and protector at all and has been very average for the Cheetahs in CC.   He will only be selected as a quota player - so we will have to look elsewhere.    

Not saying that's what I'd do, Oupa is not in my next 10 picks for flankers. It's just what I think will happen,

Or we can stop trying to turn locks into flankers. Every time I watch Jacques Du Plessis play I wonder anew just what people see in him. Huge, slow guy that punches well below his size.

 
Meyer will probably enquire as to Spies' well being ... that's what Inbred would do.

Alberts should never have gone to begin with ... neither should Jean have left these shores ...

Send Kriel!! Best 6 in the country.

Alberts is a big loss. Kriel would disappear against the top teams . And Jacque du Plessis is a zero....much like Stephanie at flank.
