I love Labradors, but they won't make my bench in a rugby team. Cousin Golden Retreiver would rock at 15 though. Staffi at openside with the Bull terrier at 7. I would prefer the Doberman at and move the German Shepherd to 12. I would prefer more agility at 13 than a Weimaraner, Rough Collie....nah not enough grunt, utility back that can cover 10 to 15 from the bench . Border Collie will have to be 13.

Border Collie is one I forgot. Maybe better as a fetcher?
Australian Cattle Dog is another one I'd love to find a spot for.

I actually thought a herder would be good on defence and a sheep dog might curb those pesky Australasion friends of ours quite well. Not to mention the agility on attack.

Our greens keeper has two border collies, they run the course all day long.....and they certainly snitch golf balls given half a chance. They fetch but they rarely 'turn it over'.

We can't let this thread disappear without a Posters XV . . .
1. Dave/Saffex2. Rooinek3. Ou Maaik/Clevermike4. Dense/Denny5. Dbdraad6. Klown/Clean Cut7. Just_win8. Plum9. Oimatey10 Moffie/Mozart11 Wardad12 Sasuke/Naruto Uzumaki13 bluebok14 Baboon-ou15 ABasquefan
Okay, a few explanations . . .
1. I know Dave would much rather be named at inside centre which is where I think he played, but he's given the loosehead spot based on Moffie's description of Dave after their epic and legendary meeting in London. Short, fat and stupid . . . everything you want in a loosehead prop. Just to add, Dave is the one and only other regular poster I have ever met and I can attest to the fact that he is neither short, fat or stupid . . . but he gets the #1 jersey anyway because it'll annoy the heck out of him . . . and we want him angry! 2. Hooker is where I played most of my rugby. I'm also captain by the way.
3. I would guess ou Maaik is the one poster we've all seen in photos that were published all over this board so we all know he . . . ahem . . . has the attributes to be a tighthead prop. We also know from ou Maaik's posts (and his sparkling personality) that he doesn't give up and will hang on to the ball like a dog to a bone. His Fantasy Rugby efforts every week also show that he is a dependable team player.
4. Dense is apparently tall and even though he's never touched a rugby ball in his life, he is incredibly ugly so he will frighten the daylights out of our opposition. For those who've seen a picture of Dense, don't be alarmed. He will wear a paper bag in the changeroom at all times!
5. DbDraad - I'm hoping he's a big thick dutchman. He often sounds like one! 6. Klown has hinted that he's quite the fitness freak so he gets a chance to prove it as a flanker. He's also included because he's so popular and gets on so well with everyone.
7. Just_win is expected to be the Richie McCaw of the side. More importantly, he's also Baboon-ou's designated handler.
8. Plum's avatar looks like a #8. Plum can be employed as an enforcer as we've seen on occasion, but he can also get quite tearful about the refs so I hope we get the harder version!
9. Oimatey could be a 2m giant for all I know but I'm picturing him as a gobby little scrumhalf with an attitude who is also very good at decision-making . . . if his Fantasy Rugby results are anything to go by.
10 Like Dense, it's highly unlikely that Moffie has ever held a rugby ball in his life but it's the position he claims to have played . . . so I'm giving him the #10 jersey in the hope he can live up to the lofty standards he sets for others . . . and also to try and shut him up.
11 If Wardad looks anything like his avatar then he will be the team's Jonah Lomu/Julian Savea/Nemani Nadolo/Waisake Naholo type winger.
12 Don't know why but I picture Sasuke as a sort of Ma'a Nonu bruiser, strong in the tackle and dishes it out when required. Not too much brain power mind . . . 13 bluebok was an easy choice. Blue Bulls centres are held in such high regard on this board that I decided this was the only position for bluebok.
14 I know, including a primitive and puny specimen like Baboon-ou in the team doesn't exactly give me much credibility but based on the sheer volume of driv . . . sorry . . . contributions Baboon-ou makes in his vain search for adequacy and acceptance on this board, I suppose we have to include him. I'm guessing he can do the least damage on the wing and let's not forget we are a mainly Yarpie team so he'll never get the ball . . . and his hopelessly limited skill set can be better utilized on defence. (In my own defence, in some of the other XVs on this thread I did pick the likes of Ramsay Bolton, Joffrey Baratheon and C3PO in the interests of representing the bad guys and the irritating robots in these things . . . and now you can add the gibbering ultra-right-wing ref-bashing bible-clobbering feeble-brained Drumpf-loving clowns as well!)
15 Abasque is given the prized #15 jersey with one instruction: play like you play in Fantasy comps!
Apologies if I left you out. We can have a bench though. For example Ceradunce can be ou Maaik's understudy . . . same role he performs on this board.

Hopefully he is doesn't take as long as Nonu to recover from his injuries because it seems that he (Nonu) is still nursing that injury that was the reason for his numerous shoulder charges a year or two ago. I believe that he was once again cited for a shoulder charge, last weekend.

Well having met both Denny and Dave I can assure you Denny is at least 6 inches taller. I have seen a photo of Den with Matfield and he gives away very little in height. Sebastian Chabal is awol, hopefully ok.

Well, I'm a bit short for a 5(about 3 inches), and dumb enough for the front row(although the fact that I actually have a neck might hamper my chances), but I'll give it a go Rooi.

Great team Rooi - very funny.
I'm no 9 though.
Maybe switch with Naru if he's up for it?

Just put the ball in front of me Matey I'll do the rest, hope HasBeen can take the high ball, supposedly he's a tall chap. An alternative lock for the squat Draad who is either 3 inches too short for lock or 5'3" tall, I can't quite decipher which. In any case we have WD on the other wing.

3 inches too short to play 5 thanks! I believe a 5 should be at least 6'5, and yes I'm rounding up like Dave. I'm actually 3.5 inhes short of that. I'll have to hit the gym hard before the match as I have another Dave-like problem...
20 May 2016, 08:34#53
Haaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaaa!!!
You're too kind, Redneck ... saying all those wonderful things about me.!!
Thanks for including me.
There's probably a host of others that could have made your powerful and interesting team.
I'm honoured!!
I'll give my best for the Kapitan and the rest of the boys.

I'm a little concerned about one or two of your selections.
Do we really want one of our team mates having a go at the ref all match long? He could find himself carded shortly after the starting whistle and I somehow don't think it'll end there.
Also ... we have a weed smoker at 8. Wouldn't want him to "wander" off during crucial times of the match ... find him munching something on the sideline whilst the match is in progress.
Then there's Dense the Comb-over Denny. We've all seen how much he enjoys Mozart. He's Mozart's Toadie and I'm a little concerned that he may take a lineout ball and pass it directly to Mozart ... bypassing Mozart's other gimp, Matey altogether.
Is that a good thing?
We've also seen how Just win loves to follow Baboon-ou around on the board. I hope he'll stay at blindside flank and not play as an additional wing next to Baboon-ou.
and lastly ... from the sounds of it ... I'm rather grateful I'm not the one expected to lift Draad. Perhaps he'd be better suited at three with Comrade and his ability to never let anything go slotted in at 5.
Just a thought.

Damn right Dave, the skip pass would be used.

CC, I droped 10 kg's this past year. With a bit more exercise I can drop the same in 6 month's. I'll be the right weight for a 5, but still about 7kg's too dik. When's the match?
20 May 2016, 17:20#59
This has been the best thread so far this year with everyone keeping it light and in good fun.
It also make me ask, besides myself, does anyone still play?
