Romain Poite

How the hell he is a test referee is beyond me, I think I'm going to watch any matches refereed by him once they're concluded so I have time to find out whether he affected the result. I predict my rugby watching time to fall drastically. 
By no means am I blaming him for the Boks losing, that would go down to the Argies being the better team on the day . 

 As a believer in the adage, 'the law of averages', maybe its not so bad having ,so it seems, virtually every 50/50 call this year going against us . Come RWC time & I might just hear, ' try to SA the tip of the ball touched the chalk ' etc etc.

No excuses though for what must be one of the saddest & most disjointed Bok performance that I've ever seen ........& this was supposedly the Argie B team with 11 changes . Well done to them .

I am still baffled by the try not allowed in the case of Reinach.  It was clear that a try was scored and the Video Ref said a try was scored - but Poite refused to award a try.  Can anyone please enlighten me about that one.

 Mike, didn't you watch the game? Reinach tapped the ball at least 2 metres from in front of where Poite was indicating where the penalty was to be taken from!!Even Bobby "One Eyed" Skinstadt admitted that one!!

Poite is at best grossly incompetent. I can only imagine what he let the Argies get away with!

 Who will forget his ruling re the grest Bissie tackle on Carter. Do we have a minor version of brycy lawrence in the making!

That was a mess.  Poite did not award the penalty where the offence occurred - he went a meter back and indicated a penalty behind where the offence occurred.  But that was ntoi the question he asked the Video ref.   He asked a try or no try and whether the ball was grounded.  After it was confirmed he then asked whether Reinach took the penalty from the sport he indicated, but no reply was given to that and Poite ran back and awarded the penalty from Reinach in fact took it.  That was crazy to say the least.
Iro of two other mistakes there is no excuse.  Early in the game there was no contest when De jager broke through the line-out on the Argentinian 22 and when the game was going forward - he blew the whistle and gave a short arm penalty to the Springboks.  His comment was "sorry" so he must have realized he made a balls-up.
Then there was the clear knock-on before the drop goal of Bosch.  
This man is still one of the poorest referees in international rugby.   

 Mike he watched the replay himself and ruled the tap was taken in front of his mark. His mark was probably not where the offence occurred but there you go. Aaron Smith did the same thing when Kepu tackled him and was yellow carded  and was not pulled up but dont read too much into that beeno.

Not taking the penalty from the mark is stupid unless a player gets away with it. He does appear to be well in front of where the referee is standing.

Then why ask the question about try or no try and a review would not be necessary if he was convinced about the position from where the penalty was taken - which in fact not where the offence in fact occurred.  

He may have only realised the player did not take the penalty from the mark when watching the video. The replays that were on the screen included this. It was probably the right decision however it was got to.

My beef is not with the issue other than he awarded the penalty at least two meters behind from where the offence in fact occurred.   Reinach wae between him and where the offence in fact occurred - so he was free to assume that Poite was going to award the penalty where the offence occurred - not where Poite indicated the penalty should be taken from.
Be it as it may the other two balls-ups I mentioned was poor reffing in any event.      

 Mike, it was a penalty for off side clearly indicated by the ref. Advantage was played and the Boks advanced a couple of metres. When play broke down Poite blew the whistle and was on his way back to the line where the Argies were caught off side when Reinach tapped and ran from where play broke down and NOT in line with where the offence occurred. Sure you can take a quick tap but you'll notice when most players do it they make damn sure they are actually behind the ref and not well in front. Yet another dumb Bok error!

Reinach in totality is a Bok error. We used to produce good scrum halves. 

 moo;a why blow the whistle before there wa in fact no advance in evidence?  Anyway it is past history and Poite remains a joke as a referee.

We use to produce good centers and flyhalfs as well = but we lived to see duds like Morne and Fransie.   Same an be said for virtually every position on the field of play.
