Scotland will be without its top lock for the rest of the Rugby World Cup after Grant Gilchrist was ruled out with a groin injury.

Gilchrist was hurt during Scotland's 39-16 win over the United States on Monday and came off in the 19th minute. The Scottish Rugby Union said Tuesday that Gilchrist "sustained soft tissue damage" and the recovery period is "expected to extend beyond the competition."

It could mean that the Gray brothers, Richie and Jonny, are united in the second row for Saturday's game against South Africa in Newcastle.

Scotland also has concerns over the fitness of five eighth Finn Russell, who was carried off against the Americans with an ankle injury.

The Scots have won both of their opening games in Pool B.

Indeed, I was always a fan of Richie Gray, but don't recall much about his brother. I must confess, I did not see too much of Scotland in recent years.
