if u had the ability/power to grant one player in ur nations RWC squad a gold pass which would seem them play the entire RWC tournament injury free, which player would u choose???
for me, it would be aaron smith.
my decision is based not on the quality of player (even though i consider aaron smith to be the best halfback in the world by miles), but on the level of depth the All Blacks would have to cover it.
IMO the All Blacks have the ability to cover nearly all positions with players who are as good as the incumbents.
halfback is the only exception. while tj is an excellent replacement for the All Blacks incumbent aaron smith should something happen to the latter, i feel like the All Blacks would notice the absence of aaron smiths more then any other player.

@warhammer,
hey buddy, yup very cold here in melbourne lately, but as a southland raised peep, ive always preferred cold over hot.
been pretty busy last year with work n all, couldnt even make it to the last supernova and armageddon which is a bit of a bummer, but i will be looking to rectify that this year,
was recently reading marvel zombies again and got the idea of going to next cosplay as a zombie All Black, lolz,
anyway, hope u and the whanau doing well in QLD, bummer bout ur chiefs even though i was rooting for the landers, but its all looking great for the All Blacks, NZ rugbys champion,

@warhammer and dr win,
at the start of the spXV dane coles would have been ,my nomination for the injury free gold pass easy, but hika elliots performance in the spXV has been so amazingly great, im very comfortable giving this imaginary pass to another position.
basically it breaks down like this, IMO the gap between tj perenara and aaron smith, is bigger than the gap between coles and elliot.
thats not a bad thing for both elliot and tj btw, cos both are class and will rep the mighty mighty All Blacks well,
@oimatey,
agree with folau as the aussies most important player, not so with carter for NZ and vermeluen for the Boks.
IMO barret and slade have got the 10 more than covered should anything happen to dan carter greatest 10 to ever play the game, so a hypothetical pass like that is better used elsewhere.
the Boks depth in the looseforwards is amazing, so i prob wouldnt use it there either.
hard to come up with a position thoiugh, cos the Boks are nicely covered everywhere, but i would prob go with damian de allende.
