Hark when the night is falling
Hear! hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling,
Down thro' the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits of the old Highland men.
Chorus:
Towering in gallant fame,
Scotland my mountain hame,
High may your proud standards gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavour,
Land of the shining river,
Land of my heart for ever,
Scotland the brave.
Scotland the Brave
And happy to try and ally themselves to the dying swan that is the EU.
Yes, very brave
Oh and there is nothing fee about the EU...
And the Common Market and the EU are two separate entities
Sure they would at least then win a game or two.
Guess what the best thing to come out of Scotland is...........Yes you are right.
AN EMPTY PLANE.
We actually contribute £53 million PER DAY to the EU budget.
This tiny Isle.
Our rebate is what ? That is what you are talking about.....get back to me
This is also a good deal for the Poms, because without the liberal Scottish vote, they will get a nice sensible Conservative decade.
Freedom!
LMAO!
We won't have a Britain really if the Union breaks away and I don't really worry in one sense, as I am English first and last. But it is in an Historical sense that is saddens me, as does the break up of the Union. And the terrible toll it will have taken on the Scottish public unity and the relationship with the rest of Britain. That will be pretty horrendous regardless of the outcome.
As for your comments regarding the English, don't be so sure and the comments regarding Scotland aren't correct either....companies have threatened to leave in their dozens if Scotland gain independence and we personally know some that are readying to leave if that is the case. The banks have already put things in order to jump ship to London.
If they will be better off, why do they want us to pay for their NHS ? Why will we have to pay for Schools ? Universities ? Pensions ? Benefits ? Etc etc ?
You need to do your homework, Mozart !!
We shall see, Saffex
Either way, a can of worms has been opened
No....a can of worms has been divided. Free Scotland!
No that's not my style....but I have read every article in this week's Economist about it. Apart from emotion and an attempt to create a guilt trip, I didn't see one cogent argument that makes this a terrible idea. Perhaps you could argue your case.
But please get the facts right, Sapp already has the vote arse about face....and poor old snarky Rooinek doesn't even realize that Lagavulin, along with Johnnie Walker and Gleneagles are all owned by Diageo, an English company.
There are complex economic ties between the two countries....they will go on. And exports to the rest of the world should be neutral at worst.
It is British !
I haven't been following too closely but m y understanding was that the English position would be to sever economic ties, certainly the currency. Also - how could Scotland afford the sudden expense of the massive social welfare programs their people are used to , national defence, counter intelligence, internal security, infrastructure, education etc?
Can of worms, as I said ...
Also, they will have no Currency and they will have to apply to join the EU and sign up to the Schengen Agreement. I know someone that works for the Euro Parliament. It might take five years if they are accepted. And the EU is crumbling....rightly so.
"The best solution is a new currency and a new central bank. It is actually a very common step 28 new Central Banks have been set up in the past 25 years."
The Economist is not always right......and you do realised that this could force an Election here if they vote for a Independence ? Cameron could have to go. At this rate, Labour will be in by Christmas !
That's more like the reason ...a common Monarch. I have a 1503 tapestry commemorating the marriage of James IV to Mary Tudor, I wonder if it's value increases or decreases with separation. That could sway my preferences...hahaha.
For the rest I could care less, but my wife is a Scot and she feels quite strongly....that it's time to " be a nation once again" . But oops that's an Irish song. Seems not everybody wants to be a part of Great Britain.
I was an Historian......we deal a lot in Politics !!!
Ah, so now the skewed view of Britain is coming out, Mozart ! I see it all
You forgot to point out that the Stuart's were actually some of the most useless of all our Monarch's...and that's going some.....
And Great Britain hasn't been around for very long....and at the behest of...who was it ? Oh yes, the Scots ! Oh yes, and who wants Devo Max ? Oh yes, the Scots !
Ask the English, Welsh and N.Irish and we get rid of them, without their money and without seats in the Parliament they so detest, at the drop of a hat.
And it isn't largely Scots voting.....look at the Stats. It is Eastern European's. Some have only been in the country a few months and can go home if It all goes belly up.
As I keep saying, lots more to this debate than a pathetic hatred of the English.
Oh and the Scots are Irish, which is why they have that song Long stor, but they all made way from Egypt, via Europe and settled in Ireland. Some then moved on to Scotland. Hence the hatred.....
You get me wrong becs, I don't hate the English. I rather like them, particularly after a good shower. But the world functions perfectly well with them in a secondary role....and so will Scotland.
BTW the point is not that James was a good king. The point is when he was crowned King of England it was easier to combine the countries, given the role of the monarch in those days.
He brought disaster to this country, as you should well know ! My goodness me.
There is disaster brewing once more, in Scotland and England, because of this. Nothing to do with stupid world standing. I could not care a jot about that. I am talking about what happens to my country at home. You see, you really don't get it at all.
Well Sapp seems to think you are going to be okay...if he could just figure out whether that's a yes vote or a no vote. So relax, for the moment the British Lions are still in business.
Free Scotland and Ireland!
I just hope your SA brethren still have their passports up to date so they can jump ship from theses Isles and scurry home when it all goes belly up
Because it very easily could, either way.
Mr S is usually a calm and considered individual, in my experience...except when we discuss Rugby.....He knows which way he thinks things will go.As I said, the SNP have opened up such blind hatred that, either way, this is going to unleash trouble for us all.
Seriously though, I can understand the Irish independence, but from an outsider's perspective the freedom thing sounds a bit silly. Why split up 2 tiny little islands even more? What is the majority they need to split?
I prefer the George Cross. Be glad to have that flown everywhere instead !
Is Free Willy next, Mozart ? I do hope so. He deserved it more.

Dn't know if all the Scots ca,me from Ireland Becs did they? But was wondering where England will move there nuclear subs to ? France or the US maybe?
Also be interested to know how many commonweaalth countries will need to change their flags > I know NZ and OZ are talking about changing theirs anyway .But the yes vote will be the catalyst for many a country to delete that deefunct union flag from the top corner of theirs. Looks like a 50/ 50 split so will be interesting to see wether the Yes vote gets the thumbs up. Would'nt be suprised if the Scots gave the poms the bird and fly the coop.
They can keep the flags, if they so choose. Up to them !
We have signed Trident over to Scotland, so I believe.Part of Devo Max.
Becs according to the research i read only 1% of Scots have Berber ancestry. That's from recent DNA annalysis. No doubt some may have come from Egypt i am not disputing but i think you were just generalising when you said they're all from Egypt.

That's what I love about History
