I don't know where we came from, Awesome1.
Remember, minds get changed about many things over the course of time. The world was once fooled by a Victorian charlatan sticking a group of bones together and giving them random names, thus creating Dinosaurs How long was it before that ruse was worked out by the Scientific community ?
According to your DNA fellows, I must hail from Nordic stock, or bits of me must, as I am Lactose Intolerant/Dairy Allergic. But I am also allergic to Beef, so that throws a spanner in the works a little, apparently
You see, technology like DNA is still quite new, so I think we should hold fire a little on its alleged findings.
I am very open minded !

Whatever happens, Mozart, there will be hell to pay...as well as thousands of pounds extra per English Tax payer to fund the Scots. Something that has gone down like a lead balloon. And rightly so.
18 Sept 2014, 15:05#45
And so they burn the Union Flag in the streets, an offence of course, and punch a blind man in the face for daring to wear a No badge. The intimidation of No supporters has gone on throughout the campaign....those 370,000 undecided voters really will be feeling the pressure today. And that is a terrible thing. They should not be forced to do anything they do not wish to do.But, as I said, can of worms......
And Andy Murray, the Tax Exile, domiciled in Monaco, has finally started to blather on about a truly independent Scotland...on the day his Scottish Hotel fails it's hygiene tests

To hell with the british government and the royal family. Scotland deserves MORE! Every country with enough natural resources can develope and prosper, but i am sure there will be an obstacle. It is the british government. It will try to cut off Scotland's trade routes by any means possible.

I t is my understanding that the Westminster government sets the budget for Scotland. The Scots, whom lack enough representatives in the political system, get out voted on most issues they care about
18 Sept 2014, 21:32#52
I just fear for the future of Scotland in terms of social disorder, and we all know the Police Force has been wrecked by SNP mismanagement already. And I fear that, regardless of the outcome, there will be much trouble ahead for England too ??

If Scotland does become independent I wish they end up like Iceland or Denmark. Prime examples of freedom right there.
18 Sept 2014, 21:54#54
Oh what is with this freedom tat ?
Denmark ? The land of brothels filled with animals ? Bestiality is a wonderful thing !
Iceland ? The freedom to slaughter Whales against the remit of the worlds Law ?
Oh yes, the freedom to flout international and moral laws !
And the freedom they so crave is to join the EU.....great. What this is about is not being part of England, but still wanting English money. Get the facts.

High welfare, high education, low unemployment, free schools, free health care, low crime rates, 6 weeks fully payed vacation etc. I could continue....they pay a high tax, but its worth every penny, nobody have to go to sleep hungry, nobody have to live on the streets and everybody get the best care for free when they get ill and need treatment, whats not like...In Denmark are idiots, morons, psychopaths and other shit, but its like everywhere, but in general its a very good place to live

I Frankly do not think that Scotland will be better off with an independent state. The have a bumch of leftwing loonies in change of the SNP and those petypes normally blunders up everything and in five years time the Scottish economy would be in dire straights.
Europe is moving towards forging closer links between countries - and Scotland wants to go the other way - what a joke.

N o matter which faction wins their will be a lot of hard feelings coming out of this one. If Scotland does go for independence I suspect England will do everything it possibly can to economically destroy them as punishment. If the Scotts vote to stay in they will go back to being under represented and ignored by London. It's how the UK government operates
18 Sept 2014, 23:19#59
Totally against Scottish independence, this thread gives me the impression that certain people have romanticised the idea of an independent Scotland without realising the facts.
They may have natural resources but they need to be in the EU or at least have decent relations with them to sell their resources. If they gain independence the price to join the EU is ridiculously high as Obama made it so in order to deter Scotland from splitting from the UK.
It's for Scotland's sake that their under represented in Parliament, as Mike said most of their politicians are left wing loonies.

Admit One
Scotland will not necessarily be ignored - it depends which party govern in England. Labour depends on the Scottish vote to govern and that makes it very dependent on Scotland. The last two Labour PM's were both of Scottish descent.
Basically England is politically divided between the prosperous south (Consevative) and Lib-Dem) and the less properous midlands and north - inclusive of Scotland. Soi as long as Scotland remains within the Union - Labour will depend on them to win elections. Of the 56 MPS of Scotland about 18 is SNP - 1 Lib-Dem - and the rest Labour, Come votes of Confidence the SNP will always vote with Labour.
So if Sotland remains in the UK - they will be of great help to Labour in their fight for policial supremacy. If not - Labour will be in the doldrums.

Still a lack of knowledge about the reality of life and British politics !
By the by, Alex Salmond hasn't been to Westminster for 25 yrs.....how can he comment on what goes on there or how well has he used his influence as an MP, do you think ? He hasn't.
This is about cocking a snook at the English and is racism, pure and simple. No-one else would get away with it in reverse.
The much vaunted natural resources are a fallacy.
As I say, learn the facts before commenting.
And I would like to mention the Faroe Islands and their recent butchering of Whales migrating.
Anyone who thinks brothels filled with bound and muzzled dogs is alright then, just says it all really.

Oh by God......it wasn't just Australians at Gallipoli. Do you actually know that or are you going by the films starring Mel Gibson ? Don't tell me, you are, aren't you ? Braveheart was a load of historical tripe, Gallipoli was hardly factual...care to throw The Patriot in too ? ! How about Mad Max, Tim and Lethal Weapon for good measure ! ??

Becs surely you are not saying Mel Gibson and in turn Hollywood in general are not portraying history accurately. Where else are the masses to gain an insight into our past happenings. I reference past episodes of Blackadder for my British history. Long live King Richard IV.

Take a powder Becs, you are getting excited. I have watched at least five documentaries, mostly British, on Gallipoli. And the common verdict is inept Pom leadership led to many unnecessary deaths. The fact the British soldiers were killed alongside Australians makes it no better.
The same mentality led to the big push in the Somme, achieving almost nothing except many Deaths. Life was cheap.
"On the first day of the Battle of the Somme River, 1 July 1916, the middle day of the middle year of the Great War, as it was called before 1939, the British conducted the European Slow March, walking, not running, toward the Germans, on the theory that the slower they advanced, the more difficult they would be to hit, and more fearsome they would be to the enemy. After 12 hours, 19,240 British soldiers lay dead in about 25 square miles. This was the most lethal day in the British military’s history."

True Mozart , that barstard Churchill and his attitude towards us "colonials" as his personal supply of cannon fodder led to the whole disastrous Dardanelles campaign. On the day of the landings the British sat on the beaches having a brew up instead of pushing off the beaches and inland ,but the whole affair had been telegraphed to the Turks anyway when the Entente failed to force the narrows with disastrous consequences to follow .The Somme , that buffoon Haig laid low 60,000 English soldiers in the first day , and reported to the British government how things were proceeding as planned ! [ Haig is on record as saying that machine guns were over rated and there would always be a place on the battle field for the well bred horse ! ]Churchill again was the root cause for the fall of Singapore with 20,000 plus Aussies lost ,the British arrogance towards the Japanese led to the colony not being properly armed reinforced and supplied .And the general in charge of the whole mess meekly surrendered to a Japanese army half the size of the allies and was on the verge of retreating .

The most incredible Churchill story, in a long history of double dealing, occurred just before Yalta. In an attempt to forestall Roosevelt, Churchill sent Stalin a list of countries and who would control them after the war.
Stalin on receiving the list put check marks next to the allocations he agreed with. So for example, Greece was 90 per cent Great Briitain, 10 per cent Russia. Stalin didn't sign that. But he ticked Roumania at 90 per cent Russia, 10 per cent others. Yugoslavia and Hungary were 50:50.
Arrogance without end. But this story has conveniently been left out of most accounts.

Scots vote to stay in the union, was it "the refs fault"?
19 Sept 2014, 11:35#76
Wardad.....wrong about Haig. He was a fall guy for a disastrous governmental policy. But it always ideal to have someone to blame, isn't it ? More reading around the subject, please, once more. Don't just fall for the " lions led by donkeys " phrase verbatim. Horrific as it all was.
And actually, once again, British soldiers lost their lives through disastrous policy at Gallipoli. Read around the subject, read the fact that it was almost the complete downfall of Churchill....oh, now what did that man achieve post his grave errors then ?.....History isn't quite so cut and dried as some of you like to make out it is.
As for Blackadder......all true. Every single word of every series. Let's face it, with an Uncle like GR Elton, Ben Elton had to get it right ?? if you don't know who GR is, Google him....he was very important !
And yes, Salmond has conceded defeat already, in Scotland. It appears folk turned up to vote all across Glasgow and found people had already voted in their name. And now the real trouble for Britain begins ??

Wasn't Cameron's statement, that the question of Scottish Independence has been settled for a generation perhaps for a lifetime, typical Pom arrogance. Fifty five per cent support is hardly overwhelming. I belong to Glascow, and surprise the pound is down today. Now why would that be if all these potential calamities have been avoided?

Mozat's ideas about history and poltics is as weird as his ideas on rugby are. Stalin - by far the cruelest bastard ever in the history of mankind - who engineered the slaughter of more than 40 million people - took both Roosevelt and Churchill for a ride at Yalta like it was unbelievable. As a result Eastern Europe was subjected to oppresssion of the worst kind. Just think about Hungary in 1956 and Prague in 1968 and the wars in the Balkans - which all resulted from the surrender of Eastern Europe to the USSR.
Scotland as a separate entity would not last and the fact that a majority of the Scots are aware of that makes simple sense, When oil runs out - they will be worse off than Greece - and that would be a disaster for all the people of Scotland.
Not clever from our very oiwn resident idiot.
