That reminds me before RWC07 RooiAAS who hated Butch was pushing for Verloorius to be in the team ahead of Butch....who steered us to a WC win from the 10 berth. "Bitch" James was the AAS name for this Bok hero.

My two cents, I was also very worried when Spies pulled out of the World cup that year. He was the most dangerous attacking 8 in world rugby at the time. He never again played the way he did in 2007. Wanting him in the team was not an entirely stupid thing at the time.
