Sharks name touring squad for Chiefs sharksrugby.co.za - (30/07/2012) - 3 Comments

The Sharks have added Pat Lambie and Paul Jordaan to the match 22 that defeated the Stormers on Saturday for a 24 man touring squad that will head to Sydney, Australia on Sunday afternoon.

Both players were in a race against time to be fit for the semi-final, and although the pair didn’t make it, they are expected to be available for Saturday’s Vodacom Super Rugby Final against the Chiefs in Hamilton.

No injuries were reported by coach John Plumtree and aside from the regulation bumps and bruises, The Sharks could go into the final being able to name a completely first-choice match 22.

“I always knew we were good enough to win this match,” said The Sharks coach after the game, “but it was always going to take an amazing amount of character and guts to achieve it. I think we saw that, especially when the Stormers came back at us in those last 10 minutes, we just had to hang on and did.

“There were a lot of really tired bodies in there but this group has gathered belief in the last seven or eight weeks and we’re just following through right now which is great.”

The Sharks have risen to the challenge over the latter stages of the tournament and now find themselves in a position that sees them competing for the trophy.

if this squad is all fit, the team i would have run out for the sharks IMO would be,,,

1 beast, 2 b du plessis, 3 j duplessis, 4 w alberts, 5 a bressler, 6 k daniels, 7 m coetzee, 8 r kankowski, 9 c mcleod, 10 f michilak, 11 l mvovo 12 t whitehead, 13 p jordaan, 14 jp pieterson, 15 p lambie
16 c burden, 17 w herbest, 18 s sykes, 19 j deysel, 20 j botes 21 l ludik, 22 r viljoen

man for man, the sharks IMO have a better team then the chiefs, but the chiefs have a better team in terms of synergy and completely kill them with X factor, especially cruden and SBW.
but the depth the sharks have with their bench is pretty mean, as is the chiefs.

With the retrun  of Lambie and Jordaan - as you said the Sharks have a very good team - but I think th jet lag issue will be a problem.    On paper they can beat the Chiefs,  but the travelling issue must have an effect on them.   I think the Chiefs will win - but not with a 10+ score.    The issue here - beside the jet lag factor - are some weak links in the Sharks team comparative to their opponents.    Those are at 12 and 9.   If Whitehead can defend properly and McCleod does not through balls over the dead ball line - like he did in the Reds game - they could still cope well man-for-man.   Watch out for Jordaan - if fit, he can present a very difficult problem for the Chiefs like he did in that try scored by him against the Reds.

In his play Jordaan reminds me very much of Conrad Smith - but for the fact that he would probably over 50 meters in a sprint beat Smith by 10 meters.

@clevermike,

when u told me a while back to keep an eye out on jordaan, i did and i am very impressed with his skills, but im not so impressed with that mustache im afraid, LMAO, :P

jordaan reminds me more of tamati ellison, but has more finess while ellison leans more towrds the brawn. i love jordaans step though, he left digby (i think) for dead in that wicked try of his.

also jordaan and lambie missing out on the last couple of games could be a good thing, they wont be so fatigued as the rest of their boys, but its still a big ask against IMO the comps form team.

i put quite a bit of cash on the chiefs to win this week, ive only done this once before when i put $2500 on the All Blacks to win the RWC during th TriNats and they were paying $2.04 at the time, and that paid off . once the sharks beat the stormers, i put $3000 on the chiefs to win this week, hope i didnt jinx myself, but with all the multi bets ive been winning with the AFL and NRL, im still going to be a few grand in the plus even if the sharks pull off mission impossible.

GO THE CHIEFS!!!
