Maybe give Schalk Brits a run out? If an injury were to hit a Bizzy/Strauss in the knockouts then he'd have to play a lot, so it would be good to give Brits a run out.
I like Brits, he's got a hell of a lot of ball skills for a forward, it's a shame he's nearing the end of his career, if we had invested in him at a younger age then he may have done great things.

Britz had great skills, but that's where it ends. Peter gave him a shot against Italy at home in wet conditions, he struggled immensely.

Britz is not big/strong enough to start at test at hooker- but he is useful off the bench when the game opens up.

Lets look at the side that played Japan as not being worthy to play three tier nations. Anybody else will be much better than having Kirchner as anything etc. I think I would rather have the following side against the USA:-
15 Lambie, 14 Mvovo, 13 Serfontein, 12 De Allende, 11 Pietersen, 10 Pollard, 9 Paige, 8 Vermeulen, 7 Burger, 6 Louw, 5 Du Toit, 4 Etzebeth, 3 Malherbe, 2 Strauss, 1 Nyakane
Put Matfield on the bench - He is useless and an injury to him would cause the removal of him from the squad saving us future embarrassment in the quarterfinals. The Ponzi embarrassment is costing us dearly in tests.

Mike,I like that team of yours. Willie on the bench, comes on for Pat for the last 20-30 min, push Pat to 10 and give Pollard a rest.Same story with Jesse on the bench, Damien off and shift Jan to 12.If Victoria's hammie is sweet put him on the bench.

Matfield is ducking and diving games - he did that in the Super 15 and I still think he has been doing that in the RC as well, because he wants yo be sure to be in the WC squad - maybe as captain - since there was still uncertainty about Jean at that stage, He is not worthy of being in the squad - but for his friendship with Meyer.
Do you know the allegation about Matfield and why he returned to play rugby? It is alleged that he lost most of his money in a Ponzi scheme and had to return to play so as to get some extra income for his post-rugby financial security. Doing coaching and match commentary would not have been enough and were not secure positions. He was a certainty of a spot in the Springbok team by Meyer and now signed a contract with Northampton to try and rebuild his fortune. Meyer is helping out his pal - but that is not making him at present an acceptable player on international stage.

Mike,I'm not aware of the allegation as you have mentioned. I absolutely share your unhappiness with his inclusion in the squad let alone the match day 23, BUT he is there whether we like it or not and he may very well need to be called upon in the later stages just as we may need to call upon Fat Alberts and useless Coenie.

The squad's been selected. Can't change anything now.
Meyer is the coach. Can't change that either.
No choice but to endure a little longer and hope for a change after the WC.
It's a hopeless situation ... for the moment that is.
It won't be long now and Meyer will be gone ... Vicky will be gone ... and hopefully all their foolishness goes with them.
I have a horrible feeling though that the next coach will be Coetzee.

Oh please lord not Coetzee!!! All we need is another coach who is weak! He is a nice guy by all accounts, and gets on well with his players. But we need a hard nosed and respected leader, that has actually achieved something significant, not another fool that will let the players run the team because he is too scared the cool kids won't like him!
