- Unfortunately it came down to ref Owen! He always has his own agenda! In the 76th minute he awards a penalty to Australia directly in front of SA posts shouting number 20 offside several times! Look at a video and you will see that the SA number 20 was not off side!
I have noticed that Owen's does this quite a lot of times in matches that he officiates! He always allows play to carry on and then suddenly starts shouting fictitous infringements in this case, number 20 offside. Of course play has moved on from the alleged offence and no one appears to check owen's decisions?
I sincerely hope that someone in authority will investigate this decision by Owen!
Please I am not questioning Australia not deserving to win!
He always manages to be the central figure in every game that he refs which of course is quite wrong a good ref keeps a game going not blowing up at almost every imagined infringement. Obviously as any reader will guess I am no fan of this ref!Reply · · 1 · 5 hours ago- Brendan Kelly · Top commenter · Monash University"I sincerely hope that someone in authority will investigate this decision by Owen!"
And if they do investigate it and realise he officiated a great game and that you're just being one-eyed? What will the excuse be then? Conspiracy by SANZAR perhaps?Reply · · 3 hours ago - Scrag Sialoid · Top commenter · NewportI've said for years that owens is a celebrity first and referee second!Reply · · 3 hours ago
- Tri Nats · Top commenter · CheatersI agree Vitali,
Owens made 6 or 7 of the offside calls in the first half against Aus, they were not offside !
It was the touchie Jackson who made the call, the crowd were yelling at him because he missed multiple offsides leading up to that penalty (watch the video again, this time with both eyes!)Reply · · about an hour ago

- Garth TheunissenRobert, I agree fully with your sentiments. My only contention is that once again the result was determined by the whimsical 50/50 call of an official. And once again the call went against the Boks. Oh for the days when the players actually determined the outcome of games.Reply · · about an hour ago
- Paul Fisher · Top commenter · Works at Otago Boys' High SchoolThose 50/50 calls are simply fixed... don't let him get close enough to the try line to allow a TMO decision. Actually, you know what... it was a try anyway, so regardless, it was the players who failed to stop the try, not the ref (and in case you are wondering, I preferred a SA win).
Oh, and DON'T TAKE THE WORLDS BEST HOOKER OF RECENT TIMES OFF WHEN HE'S DOMINATING!Reply · · 55 minutes ago

- Garth TheunissenNo, it came down to a dodgy home town TMO decision by a NZ official (surprise surprise).Reply · · 7 hours ago
- Eun Jung Jun · Top commenterDude, it was a try, you can see the ball on the ground. I'm also Kiwi, why would a Kiwi TMO be rooting Australia??? BWahahahahahahahahaReply · · 1 · 7 hours ago
- Garth TheunissenKiwi refs and TMOs regularly screw South African teams. Does the name Bryce Lawrence ring a bell? I watched the game and the replays and there is no way you could say conclusively that the ball was grounded either on the line or over it. Once again the whims of an official decide the outcome of a game involving the Boks.Reply · · 6 hours ago
- Dan Theman · Top commenter · Christchurch, New ZealandGarth Theunissen Right, so one instance of Bryce Lawrence with a poor reffing performance & suddenly NZ officials regularly screw you over? the oak admits brycy lawrence messed up but is not honest to go further!!!!
C'mon mate, it was one of those decisions that could of gone either way. If the Boks were the attacking side then you would of been claiming a try, I guarantee it.
Fact of the matter is, the Boks should never of lost that game. They were awesome for 60 minutes of it, but they played dumb & it caught up with them in the end. AGREEDReply · · 6 hours ago

WELL WELL WELL. IT APPEARS KIWI TMO GETTING STICK. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT THERE WAS NO CLEAR EVIDENCE OF BALL BEING GROUNDED. l LIKED THE ADMISSION RE BRYCY SHAFTING US BY HE HALF HONEST KIWI. YET HE WAS NZ REF OF THE YEAR!!CRITS OF BOKS AND COACH WEL L DESERVED. ALSO NOTE THE COMMENT THAT THE BOKS (NOT AT FULL STRENGTH) WERE VERY GOOD FOR 60 MINUTES. A SOBERING THOUGHT FOR THE OVER HYPED WEE ABS!
