A young version of Piet Van Zyl ran onto the pitch and i s tackled to the ground by a security official doing his job. 
Sonny Bill threatens the security guard - saying that he would have given him a hiding but instead gives the kid his world cup medal. 
Good thing SBW was on the winning team. 

Brycy apparently Khoder Nasser was seen with a medal later that evening. 

 SBW actually said were that boy one of his brothers or cousins he may well have belted himBeing an overzealous meat head with a security guard badge doesnt allow you to drive some skinny wee lad into the ground like that .Van zyl was some fat fuktard  who assaulted the ref in the middle of the game ,facebook ref haters made unsightly flesh and nothing at all like the wee laddie .

Sunny bill after being on the verge of being knocked out by old man Botha ( saved by fight being shortened illegally ) has cleay got a chip on his shoulder and feels the need to assert himself!

I for one have always enjoyed his play but this has show his class over and above his playing skills.
Great character comes to the fore is all I can say.

 The child was none of those things.He is an English kid that goes to Wellington College and he damned well should not have been on the pitch. I don't care what any of you have to say to me, I have been attending matches since I was younger than this boy ( he is in his teens, even though he looks like an urchin of a few yrs younger ! ) as have many of my male and female friends. Not one of them have invaded a pitch anywhere ( and that includes Twickenham and I am usually seated within walking distance of the teams; no hoarding jumping for me ! Just a jink/sashay around the fourth official /water boy and any player is mine to grapple  ) But that is one thing you know you do not do, ever. If you want an autograph, you wait for the teams at either the beginning/end of the match. And just seeing them/being there is enough. Gosh, these days you have far more opportunity to mix and mingle than we ever did and to take photos etc. 
He needs a slap, not reward ! 
And let the abuse toward me commence

 Well said becs, school fees 12G sterling ........ daddy buys front row seats which probably cost about R50,000 . He should return the medal & remember to behave when out in public .

 His father wanted to return the medal but SBW said to keep it as it would give him a great memory. I agree he should be told to behave himself but SBW gesture was very generous.

ou sunny bill is probably suffering from a bit of brain damage Becs and felt this young hooligan needed rewarding. Seems the kbbs are trying to salvage the situation and make ou sunny bill some sort if hero for threatening the security guard. Beeni not buying.

 No, I feel SBW acted very kindly but in a rash way ! It was obvious they would give him a replacement, though I genuinely believe he did not know this when he gave him his medal. 
However, I stand by my opinion.....regardless of whatever Saffex calls me !! 
We behave in a certain way at Rugby matches and that is that. We do not pitch invade, but, if we do, we suffer the consequences and that includes a ban ( I know of a team here in Northants that was banned from Twickers because members invaded the pitch after a Pilkington Cup Final in the '90's ) or even a fine. It almost certainly involves ejection from the ground and often arrest. 
What we learn....and teach our kids....is that we behave and wait to get our autographs/photos ( if we must ) in a certain way. We don't pitch invade. 
Simple really.

 No, Wardad.....SBW thought he was a " 7 or 8 year old lad " and felt sorry for him. Also thought he was a NZ kid. 
I was merely pointing out he was actually English and at Wellington. He behaved poorly and was rather grasping when trying to get that medal off SBW's neck Which is probably why he had to offer to give the medal back that night....SBW told him to keep it......and yes, it is Gold. They are made in my region by a small company here. 
Rules are rules......and one major one is that no-one runs on the pitch. If they do, they suffer the consequences. They do not deserve to be rewarded for it. 

So the plot thickens. "Young" Piet was actually pretending to be from New Zealand and potentially trying to steal it off Sonny Bill.

 I dont think that lessens SBWs gesture or the lads luck in being the recipient of that gesture in any way .It was spontaneous and I doubt SBW gives a bugger how old or what the kids social standing is ,or where he comes from either .He will just leave that for others to fret about .....

 Beauden Barrett was getting his hair cut early in the tournament when he noticed an ABs jumper on the wall .When he enquired about  it the English owner told how his NZ born wife was a fan and was at that time undergoing chemotherapy .So Beaudy took the jumper away when the salon owner refused to charge him for the haircut and had the whole team sign it ,he also organized tickets at the final and gave her his numbered tournament cap.Probably an evil convoluted plot to get tickets and some primo E-bay merchandise .

 Nope, I'm sure it was a lovely gesture and the owner and wife was touched, as anyone would be. If those things end up on eBay, the people they were given to deserve flogging !! 
It is not about class or anything, Wardad.....I was refuting the claim he was the kid of the AB kit man who had just died, as someone else posted in this thread above. It was quoting facts !! It is about his behaviour and he was in the wrong.SBW was doing a kindness and good for him, but, sadly, I think it might make others think they can bomb onto the pitch when they feel like it to get something now ! 
I have nothing but respect for players who perform kind acts. 
Wayne Shelford was upset that he didn't have a life size cardboard cut out of himself to give to my friends Mum way back when I was still a schoolgirl. I finally asked him if he could sign something for her as she very much liked him ( personally, I feel like I am encroaching on people's time if I do this and the game wasn't actually pro then ) He was only too pleased to and had a rummage at home for a cut out....hadn't got any so she just had to have the signed pic instead ! She was thrilled. And Tim Rodber was kind enough to pop in just before he went to England Camp to sign a shirt for a friends 21st. It was a bit of a joke.....she had loved him since he joined us at Saints and we got to know him pretty well so he said he'd sign an England shirt for her. It was very kind of him. I have quite a few bits and bobs from players that people have given me....Peter Walton decided to give me a signed Saints ball for my 21st and got the other guys to sign it too. He, of course, decided to put the greeting " Happy 21st Fat Arse ".....a girl could get a complex when she had that shouted at her across the bar/ground all the time !!!! 
I hope that child treasures his gift for life as I am sure that lady and gent will do with their shirt. 

Check out a few games on you-tube from back in the day when there wasnt any sidings between the fans and the pitch .I remember my very first test match sitting on the grass a few meters from the sidelines ,even fairly recently NZ fans and others too would get on to the pitch to congratulae the players so maybe its only an unbreakable compact for some eh ?
Becs recall how those wee gifts made you feel and extrapolate that to these people .

 My first Saints match was sitting on the grassy hill watching us get beaten by Nottingham...ha ha ! We only had one Stand at the Saints in those days. That hill was then built over to make way for " sponsors "  And now our beloved Members Bar has, not only been knocked down to make way for yet more Sponsors boxes and some seating, but has been renamed. It's disgusting. They are seemingly trying to wipe away our history ( even our shirts bear no resemblance to our " Green, Black and Gold Stripes " any longer. This years Away shirt is simply horrific ) I've spent many a happy day sitting on the sidelines at grounds around the country, Wardad. I love my Rugby, I'll watch anywhere  
We have never really been allowed on the pitches here, it hasn't been encouraged at all and, as I say, results in bans for individuals and teams/fines etc at Twickenham or the other major grounds. Some guys I know took a ball onto the pitch at Twickers after the Pilkington Cup Final in the '90's ( we had just lost to 'Quins...a sad, sad day ) and they were a tad tipsy, shall we say ? Culminated in a ban for their Rugby Club ( the Bugbrooke Badgers ) from Twickers....for life !! 
Oh well, I grew up with the Saints players being around as my Uncle played for them when I was a toddler and they all congregated at our local Pub every Sunday morning for drinks. A load of the others came from my village or went to School with my folks and a brother of my Aunts boyfriend was in the England Squad at the time. So, we were always at the pub with them on a Sunday morning....so, my first gift would have been a bottle of pop with a stripey straw in it  We used to have a lovely time with them all. My next gift was from an ex....a South African, actually. He was at a Ladies Game the day after we lost the 1990 Grand Slam to Scotland and Will Carling was there to present the Trophy. So, being the sort of guy he was...he marched over to our dear leader, told him he was glad we lost as he was half Scottish, that I was his biggest fan though and could be have an autograph ! To his credit, he didn't punch him ( I would have ) and I am still in possession of a programme signed " To Rebecca, Love Will Carling " My ex came straight over when he got back so he could give me it and I was pretty taken aback actually. It was one of the nicest things anyone had ever...and has ever to this day...done for me. I was a school kid, remember, and a very shy one....but I told him off for being rude to Will Carling...ha ha !! I also have a signed photo of the man himself that was a birthday present ( a long story....ha ha ha ! ) I met him many times when I was older. A nice chap and a very good player....even if Saffex disagrees with me. 
I have loads of bits and bobs knocking around....I think I still have the odd Christmas card/postcard from Matt Dawson and he was always bringing chocolates and things back from trips to Europe etc. Don't ask ! Actually, do.....my neighbour many years ago. As was Johnny Bell of Ireland and many others. Tim Rodber lived down the road but spent more time here. Ian Hunter made me a paper aeroplane....now that was special  
Oh and I have David Campese's autograph. My eldest brother got that at England/SA one year. Bumped into him and thought it was funny 
But yeah, my ball from dear old Peter was a good one. He brought it with him to my 21st birthday party and it was really unexpected and a lovely gesture. But he's a lovely bloke. 

I don't think the issue is how a gesture like that makes you feel or how lovely it was that SBW made it in the first instance, it was that he really should not have been on the pitch in the first case. And, as an English kid at Twickers, he should have known it. He could have waited to see him by the side of the pitch and, the NZ lot seem like nice blokes and were hanging about to do their bit with the fans. Now the grounds will have one heck of a job keeping kids off the pitches and it will be a problem. I don't blame SBW for any of this at all.
