I half expected this. De Villiers this year was plagued with injuries this Super 15 - something often found with players as they are nearing retirement age.
I would say the best option they have is to play De Allende at 12 and replace De Villiers in the squad with Jordaan. A De Allende - Jordaan combination will be very good - since it is obvious that JJ does not bring enough in attacking play to warrant his selection. Another combination would be Serfontein - De Allende.
There is absolutely no reason why De Allende should not be selected - he performed much better than any of the existing centers in the Springbok squad and shuld be a natural selection.
Knowing Meyer's line of thoug ht - he would persist with Serfontein and Engelbrecht - or bring in Francois Steyn, but there is no future in that one either. Steyn despite the hype was a very poor performing center this year and he is not available to play in the RC in any event.

There w as a time when this would have been a huge blow to the Springboks but with the emergence of Damian de Allende, it shouldn't be such a big deal.
Even the board's stupidest contributor has had to revise his laughable opinion of De Allende . . . admittedly only after getting gallons of egg all over his fat, pompous face.
The only worry now - as ou Maaik points out - is that Meyer might be tempted to persist with Serfontein or Steyn. I think it's time to reward De Allende for his excellent performances this year.

Yes, we are seeing a changing of the guard with older key players not so essential anymore. ABs: it's Carter, McCaw, melamu, etc. Same for Boks .RWC will be very interesting as we will see if the coaches make changes, plus looks like Boks might finally have enough quality back (with skills). ABs are bringing along some big forwards so we will have options (fast, mobile) , but also heavy beef when playing NH or Boks . We will get some indications of where both nations stand in the June series. Enough to start the usual raging debates

There is one thing I for one will miss if De Villiers is not around. There can be no doubt about it - he is an absolute gentleman and that showed strongly during his captaincy. There should for the good of the game more quality captains like him around.

Remember how well JDV reacted last year when the All Blacks tried to cheat their match day squad with an extra player on the bench to use depending on how the game was proceeding. Mccaw wrote up the team list
This could be a good chance to try Delande at 12

This will be a good chance to give Steyn and JJ a go.De Alende is good but from the bench he can make his appearance...in the last 10min like most newbies. Also a good chance to finally hand over the captaincy to the captain in waiting AKA Bismarck Du Plessis.

Why Steyn? He was a bad flop at center this year - showed nothing of substance in any game he played in that position - unless a missed tackle ratio of 24% count in his favour. He made NO line breaks and beat a minimal number of defenders and ball carries made virtually no progress over the advantage line. He is not available for the RC in any event and to start with him knowing that would be foolish on the part of Meyer.

Just a wind up Mike...But you know that Meyer will make this selection based probably on that fact that Steyn has experience. He wont select a player with no experience to debut a game.

ur memory like the squal to 300 and the Boks playing attacking rugby, is completely full of poos, but it is a little funny, .

I think Meyer should start with some newbies in the game on 7 June - it is really an inconsequential game and more of a trial match than anything else.

this is a great blessing in disguise for the Boks, but a bummer for JDV.
meyer was always going to pick JDV, cos meyer neither has the spine or the smarts to pick better players.
JDV and his rush defensively flawed rush defence will no longer be a target for any teams, so lets hope he recovers in time for the All Blacks, cos i would like a few easy matches after we take on the the All Blacks most dangerous opponents in 2014 the wallabies.
hopefully jan serfontien now gets first pick, as he is the logical successor to the 12 jersey for both the immediate and long term future.
i wouldnt mind seeing de allende in the mix either, having two big fast speedsters in the midfield the likes of de allende and jj is IMO a combo with a lot of potential.
had that pairing been groomed by kiwis, it would porob be the best upincoming combo in the world.
frans is alkso a good pick, but he would be 3rd in the pecking order after No1 serfontein and No2 de allende.
but for now i would prob pick frans at 15, where his power ranger boot woulc come in real handy, especially during clearing times.
my revised Bok backline,,,
9 f hougaard, 10 j goosen, 11 d de allende, 12 j serfontein, 13 jj engelbrechett, 14 w le roux, 15 f steyn
21 c reinach, 22 j potgeiter, 23 l mvovo

Yep JDV has done his bit.But it is time to get out the oldies and in with the new young blood.
The role of captain should go to Bizzy,
Sasuke uchiha agree with your comment except for JJ. I have no problem with him playing off the bench.
le Roux is left footed so I would suggest that he be #11 and de Allende at #13.
I still think Habana has another year at test level so I would bring him into the mix at #14. His defence and chasing the high ball is always a contributing factor to a game.
On current form I think the Lions # 10 should be played off the bench and lets not overlook Pollard for the rest of the tests later this year.

I accept I was wrong and that my original posting was a week out when I said I did not ask for Jordaan to be selected during the past year. Terrible mistake on my part - I should have said the past 51 weeks - not the past year.

JDV was ok until he begged for that penalty last year
