South Africa will consult World Rugby Refereeing High Performance Manager Joel Jutge on some scrum calls made in their recent loss to Argentina.

They conceded several penalties in the scrums in their 37-25 defeat to the Pumas in Durban and Bok scrum coach Pieter de Villiers said he was confused by the majoirty of the decisions.

South Africa's tighthead prop Vincent Koch was penalised on several occasions for scrumming illegally.

"It was a very frustrating day for us, and I was confused about the calls that were being made," De Villiers told Reuters.

"We need to get some clarity on some calls, and we will talk to Joel Jutge about it. Not one of our scrums went to completion, so it was difficult to get a technical note on our scrumming.

"I thought Vincent did really well in his first scrum but then the call went against us and after that it was a struggle."

Koch's direct opponent, Marcos Ayerza, plays his club rugby for Leicester Tigers and De Villiers feels the Pumas front-row's bind was illegal.

"Vincent was up against a very experienced prop from the northern hemisphere who is well schooled and versed in the dark art of scrum manipulation," added De Villiers.

"We need to work on that, and Vincent is very keen to have another crack at it as well."

More than the scrums went wrong but they need to get their confidence back. Did you ever think you would say that about a Bok team? They despe rately need a win or even a big win going into the RWC.

A win could be the wirst result for us as it would cement hopeless matfiled' s place in the side. Many a wrong conclusion would be drawn.
