From planetrugby:

The Stormers have announced the arrival of former Lions prop JC Janse van Rensburg from French club Bayonne ahead of the 2016 Super Rugby season.

After three seasons in the Basque Country, the powerful former Lions captain will bolster the Stormers resources on the loosehead side as of November 1 with Steven Kitshoff having decided to further his career in France.

29-year-old Janse van Rensburg toured Europe with the Springboks in 2012 (without getting any game time). He made over 50 appearances for the Lions at Super Rugby level and won well over 50 provincial caps for the Golden Lions.

"I think I’m a better player for my experience in France, but I’m looking forward to returning home and joining a talented an ambitious team like the DHL Stormers," said Janse van Rensburg.

"I cannot wait to make the move to Cape Town and I look forward to contributing to the success of the DHL Stormers.

"I still have plenty of ambitions in terms of winning trophies (in South Africa) and perhaps also playing at a higher level and I couldn’t think of a better province and union than Western Province to achieve those goals."

WP Director of Rugby Gert Smal expressed his delight at the signing of Janse van Rensburg, who will add big-game experience to the Stormers’ front row resources.

"JC brings with him a wealth of experience - both locally and internationally," Smal told the iamastormer website.

"There is no doubt that we have some of the best young talent in South Africa, but it’s been proven that you need some experience mixed in between and JC certainly brings that to the table.

"Before he left South Africa he was pushing hard for Springbok selection and I expect him to continue in that vein."

Its sickening to lose a brilliant young player like Kitshoff but Janse is a great replacement. Smal knows his forwards and the addition of Du Toit and possibly Marcell will be great as well.Hopefully we will not again see the Stormers pack decimated by the fielding of Bongi, Kolisi and Carr. You can only carry so much under performing players.

what huge loss for the stormers. kitshoff was the form loosehead in the spXV IMO, so anyone they got to replace him woulkd have been well short of the mark.

the rand might be weak and one of the core reasons all these saffa players going overseas, but if SARU and meyer were to ONLY select players based in south africa, the number of players leaving to play thier club rugby overseas would be dramatically cut in half.

this player exodus is one of the reasons why saffa spXV teams pose no threat to NZ teams.
they might win the odd game here and there in SA and the even more rare game in NZ, but SA spXV teams wont win anything on merit.
