Realistically Etzebeth dominated that game, 3 lineout steals, a massive try and countless other good things. Du Preez was very promising, looking much like Pollard in his style. De Jongh was the most  productive centre and Kolbe the most dangerous back.
How utterly toothless were Step an Kriel. One had to cringe when Kriel ran straight back into traffic and got turned....he still has no centre DNA.
The Bools pack dominated the scrums in the first half, but Marcel was scrumming up again. In the second half the roles switched. Was that because of Malherbe or because the reserve Bools props were so bad? Hard to tell, going forward Malherbe can be devastating it's the defensive scrums that nail him.

And then of course there is the Stephanie myth. He loses two of his lineouts, and is credited with an embarrassing falcon....he does little else that's very unusual, but the hype flows. I thought in his short time on the park Schickerling looked better.

How bad are the Bools really? It's hard to say. Their locks, their reserve props, Arno Botha, their centre and halves all looked awful. They can't execute any form of forward dominance. And they can't live off that backline.

And here's the thing nobody wanted to mention....how good was their lineout without Victor?
The Stormers looked good by contrast, but their year will be determined by whether Etzebeth stays healthy

Hattingh was awesome in the first half. Pity he was expected to do it all himself. No support.
Eben was his usual dominant self. Very impressive.
I thought PSDT had a good outing and can see the two of them doing well at test level. Not too shabby for a first outing.
There are however other challengers for the Bok 4 jersey ... and for him to remain a challenger he'll have put an end to his constant injuries.
Hopefully the next coach sees Lomp as I do.

Your scoop has some serious inaccuracies and prejudice.  De Jongh was bog ordinary and subject to his normal ball possession losses - at best 5/10 performance-wise.   Kolbe is a worry all the time he is too easily run over by bigger and stronger players.   He tries to carry balls from the back - but is not really successful.
The story about defensive scrums involving Malherbe is sad to say standard BS that we have heard for more than two years - so let get something new for a change - somewhere nearer to reality.
Your story about Du Toit is entirely based on prejudice an d far removed from reality.  Mozart please accept that Matfield was Sh!t poor since 2014 and that he was a constant liability in the team - the longer he played after his return the worst he became.   The longer he played the less his role in line outs became until it was down to four or less takes per match.  Since he was useless in other aspects of lock play - his absence from the Bulls team was not an asset loss at all.
I am amazed that you persist with Matfield hype - despite that he disgraced himself in tests played since June 2014.

Mike ... Mozart made a right twat of himself last year by backing the elderly, especially Matfield.
He knows this ... but will never admit to it.

He's just being obstinate.
Accept the fact that Mozart will never apologise ... especially not to you ... and will never admit he was wrong.
You showed him up so many times last year ... and tell me ... how many times did he apologise to you???
Exactly.
You can expect the same this season. A confused old man just winging it and hoping for the best .

Actually I always apologize when I'm wrong, it's just that I have so little opportunity. Last year has to be judged in terms of the WC. No old team was going to put out in meaningless 4N games, particularly when injuries were rife.
So what happened in the RWC? We had one poor game against Japan...a black swan event. We then decimated our pool opposition....beat Wales with the help of oldies Vermeulen and du Preez. And then ran the ABs desperately close.....but were ultimately  unable to overcome Lomp missing a crucial tackle for the deciding Ab try.
We did as well as our talent allowed....this year wont be nearly as good as we rely on a poor crop of young players.

There are a few things that need to be considered - not only the WC.   The Springboks had an atrocious record in 2014 and 2015.
During the WC the Springboks went down to no 6 ranked team in the World.   The team who played Japan was the most experienced team ever fielded by the Springboks.  Yet the team was below par and the rest of the time Meyer had to rely on younger players.
There is always referring to the Wales and All Black tests - yet the Wales test we were behind until Vermeulen disobeyed an instruction from Meyer and off-loaded a ball to Du Preez and when the Wales wing made a mistake - Du Preez had a clear field in front of him and scored the only try of the Springboks in that game.  The semi-final we were not really ever in the game - De Jager made a tackling error and Burger lost ball pessession and the AB's scored two tries.   Game lost - but it could have been different if Matfield did not bugger up resulting in a reversed penalty to the All Blacks.  The issue is we did not do as well as the talent allowed - it was the warped under-performers which Meyer should have left at home.  These under-pperformers did not do anything of substance in the WC and since then have been atrocious playing for their clubs.   Matter if fact most of the elderly players so adored by you were dismal failures and should have been replaced years ago by performing players.
It is clear that the departure of the relevant players has not had a detrimental affect on the strength of present rugby and in fact the y did not leave any gap - they should in the main have gone years ago.
One of the worst sights in Springbok Rugby over the last two years was the disgusting performance of our props against Argentina.  Yet with only one change in the Jaguares forwards compared to what they used last year - the scrumming by the Cheetahs was strong compared to the one of the Springboks when Jannie and Matfield were around.
The following players should never have been in the WC squad as proven by their poor performance :-
De Villiers, Morne Steyn, Pienaar, Alberts, Matfield and Jannie du Plessis.
The above were useless in the WC tests - even Du Preez, Burger and Bismarck was questionable in performance.
The truth is these players will not be missed this year - the Springbok performance cannot be worse than it was in 2014 and 2015.    .

You forget, it was Koch who buckled. And you forget it was Ayerza who destroyed him. Malherbe's has yet to face that test.

It was worse the previous year when Jannie and Steenkamp went at a reverse of lightning speed in scrums.  Koch was poor in one game - Jannie in 3.
Malherbe has faced sterner tests than that and diod well enough - even though you refused to even consider it.
However Ayersa is not the only player in scrums and that one has been proven over and over again.
How come with only Ayerza not among their Tight 5  the very limited Cheetahs team on Saturday in scrumming put up a better performance against the Argentinians than the Springboks did over the past two years against the Pumas?   Please explain that one to me if you can.

He did well in every RC test and in other matches he played in - he was phenomenal in the Super Series last year.   Jannie was poor all along and the fac t that he remained the first choice, together with Matfield as lock destroyed our Tight 5 functioning for 18 months at least.

Oh please....the Welsh scrum in the WC was sterner than the Bargies with Ayerza.....NZ with Moody was a sterner test? Really?
You forget Ayerza destroyed Malherbe in Bargieland in 2014...Sio destroyed Malherbe in Oz last year. Which was shocking because Malherbe had been good in the dominant Stormers pack.

Once again on Saturday the pack was dominating and Malherbe looked strong. But before I'm convinced we can count on him 5 m from our line against strong opposition, I have to see evidence he can hold his shape with a scrum being forced backwards.

Your memory is very very selective and biased.  In 2014 Jannie started against the Pumas and was destroyed by Ayersa - going back at breakneck speed,  In the end Meyer got so desperate he replaced Jannie with Malherbe and the scrums became stabilized - there is in fact zero proof that things like contained in your statement in fact happened.
Mozart - stick to facts - please.  The scrum collapsed on the side of Van der Merwe and that is a fact as well,  On the Malherbe side the scrum was firm despite an injury troubling him.   Jannie in the OZ game could do nothing until he went off for a test - then the Aus scrum was pushed back when Malherbe came on.  That part you conveniently forgot.
Do you really compare the deficient Jannie with Malherbe in scrumming?  You do not think Jannie has been embarrassed enough already?
However, you will never see the evidence because you do not want to see the evidence.

Wow what an insulting take on the game.....its actually childish Moffie.....that's how pathetic you are
You are too much of a coward to concede that PSDT had an outstanding game......I mean the lad made the team of the week and no-one agrees with your prejudicial garbage
He carried the ball 12 times and gained 22m you ignorant prick.....Etzebeth was par with 11 carries and 18m......but somehow Etzebeth was dominant and PSDT poor......you are a fucking joke coffin dodger
So Marcel dominates the scrum and you have him scrumming up......how did you reach that conclusion you ignorant prick.....please talk us through your findings
Kriel on ran the ball 4 times gaining 5m and beating 2 defenders in the process.....makes a bloody mockery of de Jongh only beating 1 defender in 41m gained......most productive my arse......the only thing noteworthy that happened to wee de Jongh was Serf lining him up and smashing him out the way.
Arno Botha was by far the best loosie on the park
Your hero Schalk was utterly useless.....13 carries and all of 10m gained
Funny how you fail to mention this your prejudicial prick
Malherbe was huge when he came on, much like he was all WC
Moffie you are fucking clueless
Your post is insulting

Can you actually read?   Strauss went to ground and what was actually not said was that Van der Merwe also went to ground - nothing about Malherbe standing firm and not going to ground.
You have no facts except about one scrum that sounds in your favour - but what about the scrum in the first half when Malherbe temporarily was replaced by Malherbe and the scrum of the Wallabies disintegrated.
Mozart - your impression is mostly based on your perception and often enough on one incident during a serious of matches - which basically goes against a general trend and that makes your decisions absurd.
You were informed that Malherbe was out in the next two matches because of an injury problem and did not leave the field during the relevant game despite the injury because he would and could not be replaced.   So despite that fact you keep on harping on one incident.   I would not have believed how you harp on that match as an example if you are in any way o bjective - buit it was an excellent opportun ity to show your prejudice.  .

What can't you understand about "Scott Sio immense at the scrum, monstering replacement tighthead Malherbe"?  Are you confused about what monstering means or can't you see with your head stuck in the sand.
Game, set and match.

I am not - I wrote about that scrum -what don't you understand abut Malherbe being injured and not leaving the field because he would not have been replaced.   That meant an injured player did not scrum well in a scrum you harped upon endlessly.
Mozart th ose quotes of yours buggered up the margins in this case - please correct.

As for my well being....my delivery is no different to this time last year or the year before, but I guess in your advanced age memory is not a strength anymore.

A respectful request - try and get the margins under control please.  half of the thread is not readable because of your one posting.  There are ways of getting the same message across and provide the same transcripts without destroying the margins.  Why do you refuse and do the other members in from reading what is discussed under this thread - it is not nice and very inconsiderate.
