IT is one of the rarest but most pleasing sights you can see in any code.

Kiwi referee Nick Briant took the unusual decision of overruling himself during Friday night’s clash between the Crusaders and Chiefs in Christchurch.

Briant awarded the Chiefs a penalty early in the match following a scrum turnover, only to change his decision after consultation with the assistance referee.

It wasn’t the only noteworthy incident involving Briant on Friday night, who also produced this hilarious one liner after copping an almighty falcon in the second half:

But unlike the comical falcon that forced the Chiefs to lose momentum, Briant’s first-half call was warmly received by players on the field, as well as the commentators and crowd.

n an age of rampant referee criticism and countless replay angles, Briant showed rare courage and humility to overturn his own decision.

 Good to see that a ref can overrule himself & also that the players respected his final call. Don't know why people laugh about a falcon on the ref. I guess it is a bit of slap-stick comedy but I am glad I was not on the receiving end of that pass.

Beeno: glad to obligue, basically it proved that the sbbs have had the wrong end of the stick for years re the  & that kiwi dominance is verified
