Last week I said we needed to shift back to a controlled patten game. HM was on the same page fortunately. For some of our dimmer posters it's well explained here. I only disagree with the Stephanie comment...wishful thinking.
And I'm sorry Pollard never got the chance to play in a controlled pattern game. His kicking is no worse than little Pat whose two poor cross kicks and penalty which missed touch when we were a man up, are quietly ignored.

Don’t begrudge the Springboks for reverting to a more traditional tactical approach, writes CRAIG LEWIS.

Having strangled the life out of Argentina on Saturday with a physical, passionate performance, it’s clear that the Boks have settled on the style of play that they believe will reap rewards at the World Cup.

In the opening two Tests of the Rugby Championship, a Bok side boasting a mobile loose trio and young backline flirted with a ball-in-hand approach, and produced some sparkling periods of play, but still ultimately failed to emerge victorious.

It’s the type of approach that can be extremely effective at the right time and place, particularly when the tempo of the game is high-paced.

However, the Boks were caught out in Durban, with the Pumas – boasting numerous players who ply their club trade in the northern hemisphere – outmuscling the home side and frustrating them by slowing the ball down at the breakdown.

That revealing Test match may well prove to be a blessing in disguise as it clearly caused Meyer to take stock of the tactical requirements that will need to be met in order to be successful at the World Cup.

And in Buenos Aires, the Boks provided a performance that will have served to rubber stamp this game-plan blueprint for the World Cup.

The Boks dominated the forward exchanges, emphatically won the scrum contest, defended effectively and controlled the territorial battle with Pat Lambie’s accurate boot.

The Pumas had no answer, and the Boks had their most convincing victory in Argentina since the South Americans joined the Rugby Championship.

After the match, SuperSport conducted an interview with Heyneke Meyer, and the messages from the mightily relieved coach spoke volumes.

‘The guys really put their bodies on the line, and it shows that’s how we should play, we should play Springbok rugby that makes us proud,’ he commented. ‘We changed a few things with the game plan, we decided to play more tactically … We didn’t pitch up in the previous game, we might want to move the ball and throw it around, but in Test rugby you don’t win like that. You have to respect your opponent and be more tactical, and I thought our defence was really awesome.

‘This is how you win World Cups, you have to grind it out away from home, and I think we’d lost that art,’ he added. ‘You can play great rugby in the Rugby Championship, but this is Test match rugby away from home and what we will face in the World Cup … but if we play like this no one can beat us.’

It remains to be seen whether the Boks can deliver on that assertion, but there was little doubt that Saturday’s approach was something that came extremely naturally to them.

Key to this, though, is the presence of big ball-carriers, and physical defenders, such as Willem Alberts and Duane Vermeulen. While Alberts didn’t have a standout game on Saturday, his physical presence cannot be discounted, and to borrow a cricket term, he will be all the better for his time out in the middle.

Vermeulen’s recovery from injury remains integral to the Boks’ World Cup cause, as will be that of scrumhalf general Fourie du Preez, who is another player ideally suited to conducting a tactical game.

Pieter-Steph du Toit’s return from injury is also another massive boost for the Boks, and his ability to slot in at lock or as a blindside flanker back-up has surely booked him a World Cup ticket.

With regards to the Boks’ alteration in approach, the big question will now revolve around which flyhalf will be best suited to run this tactical show from pivot.

Lambie put his hand up in a big way against Argentina, and may well have just done enough to sneak ahead of Handré Pollard in the World Cup reckoning at No 10, but the competition between the two remains extremely healthy for the Boks. Morné Steyn, meanwhile, remains a reliable flyhalf fail-safe.

With regard to these selection decisions, Meyer’s job is an unenviable one, but at least his mind is understandably made up about the approach the Boks need to embrace at the World Cup.

 Dr Goebbels
You apparently did not agree with the following as well:-
"While Alberts didn’t have a standout game on Saturday, his physical presence cannot be discounted, and to borrow a cricket term, he will be all the better for his time out in the middle."
Your praise-singing of Alberts is incredible and now the article sabotaged it by the quoted statement.  Problem is that Alberts have been sh!t in performance for years and there is no reason to share the optimism of the writer for him being better in future.
You obviously disagree about Du Toit - because he is such a hugely better player than useless Matfield and Alberts.
One thing is for bloody sure - with Matfield and Alberts in the team we are going to be out of the WC super-quick - same as happened in 2011.

 Dave
You cannot explain what the real situation is to people with closed minds and Mozart's mind has got stuck in 2007 and has not opened to any new ideas subsequently.
We know we are on the road to nowhere with the players Mozart supports and those will ultimately get us out of the WC quickly.
Just think of a WC team comprising of the following and we will have the most BS team at the competition:-
15   Le Roux14   Pietersen13   De Villiers 12   Francois Steyn11   Habana10   Morne Steyn  9  Du Preez  8  Vermeulen  7  Alberts  6  Burger  5  Matfield  4  Etzebeth  3  Jannie du Plessis  2  Bismarck du Plessis  1  Mtawarire
16  Strauss17  Heinke van der Merwe
18  Nyakane19  Flip van der Merwe20  Louw21  Pienaar22  Pollard23  Fourie
The above are all players Dr Goebbels punted strongly this year - there may have been some falling by the wayside - but that was not through lack of support by the delusioned Dr.
With that kind of thinking is there any hope for the Springboks?  I am convinced it is a team of has-beens and never-has beens so beloved by Dr Goebbels, which will be sure to take us even lower on the ratings table than we are already.   .

Under Meyer we will not get past the quarters.

We are lucky we have such an easy group, failing which we would not have even made the quarters......there is a reason Meyer has taken us to No 5 in the rankings......our worst ranking by some distance.

Meyer has been on board for 4 years now and has won ZERO......all he has achieved is lowering our ranking to an all time low - the man is both an insult and a disgrace and what's so fun ny is that some clowns like Moz still support him

Dave I'll tell you who will wilt at the WC in a big game. Not Matfield, not Jean, not Schalk, not Alberts.
Mvovo, Allende, Lambie, Reinacht, Marcel, Malherbe, Koch, Stephanie, Coetzee...all these guys will be outplayed by NZ or Oz opposition and crumble. We need fierce competitors not boys.

It would not be necessary for Matfield, Jean or Alberts to wilt in the WC.  They have already wilted and that is a fact you will never accept.  There performances showed that clearly.  Fierce competitors without the physical ability to compete is an exercise in futility and that is where the three mentioned will fall flat.

Bullshit Moz de Allende has already made a mockery of the Kiwi centres in a test match.
Coetzee stood tall all of last season....he is better than McCaw.
PSDT only has Retallick as an equal.
Lambie is as good as any young 10 in NZ.
Alberts and Jean have offered zero in the last 2 years......Matfield has been piss poor since his return as he is an old man bring dominated physically week after week.
But the likes of you and ignorant Meyer think this old man is the answer. It's insulting man when you think of the young locks we have at our disposal. What the f do you see in this old man.....Wake up man.....your support for Meyer and his selection of Matfield and co is ludicrous.
What's your excuse going to be when we fail at the WC....answer me that?

If we fail at the WC, unlike you I will be disappointed. But losing at the WC doesn't prove your team would have won. Based on the evidence so far the only time we have looked solid is in the last game and when the starters were on the park....in other words when HMs first choices were on the park.

There is no evidence in the S15 or in our test history that a bunch of uncapped players are going to do better than veterans who have proven their worth.
Gormless stuff Dave....the same silly rubbish you have been pushing over the years with nothing to show for it.

Dr Goebbels
Matfield was average and Alberts was on par with what he normally produce - that is near to zero - in the last test.   There was no real drive in that game.  Take all the line-outs in that game near the tryline.  They could not even get a rolling maul going - they tried it but failed.  They then tried the trick that was used in earlier tests - but the ball did not go to Matfield, it went to Alberts and he gained less than a meter.  They repeated the same strategy - the ball went to Nyakane and he tried and made more meters than Alberts, but also failed.
The question is why was Matfield (like in the case of De Jager - who scored a try) not tried as a receiver of the ball in those cases?   T he answer is simple - he would have been tackled back and the opportunity would be lost.   That should give you clear indication of what went wrong.
There was later in the first half another driving maul formed with Mayfield trying to direct the traffic.   The Argentinians handled it with contempt - they neatly pushed the Springboks to the sideline and the ball went over the line and out of play.
Then there was the grande finale before Matfield left the field of play.  A line-out is formed near the tryline.  The ball is thrown into the line-out - the ball was supposed to be caught by Matfield - but he messed up and the Argentinians won the line-out.
That typified the performance of Matfield - solid in a way - but that tackle of Sanchez on him tell the real story - he was too weak physically to be up to an acceptable standard.
Alberts did what he normally did in tests.  He carried the ball 8 times got virtually no territory gain - he made 7 tackles and missed one - mostly ineffective tackles at best (you call it process tackles).   He was very, very Alberts in the game - as always a weak link in the team.  Even the newspaper report on the match you rushed to post on site in a diplomatic way said he was no good - but may benefit from further game time.  We all know he would not - as that was a standard Alberts contribution.
All - but you - agreed that Du Toit in the short time on the field of play showed more than double what Alberts achieved in ball carries (meters gained per average carry) and his tackle stats also compared poorly with those of Du Toit.  I will refer you again what ESPNscrum says about Du Toit:-
"Pieter-Steph du Toit has made a big impact as a flanker since replacing Willem Alberts."
It is no use arguing against facts - real performers would have made a huge difference  to the team on Saturday.  The actual performance of Matfield and Alberts did not make a positive contribution to the team performance.

Meyer's gameplan is right, he has no choice but to go down the line most suited to the Boks......believe me, this way we have a chance, I'm not saying the Boks will win the RWC but he's cutting his cloth to the material in hand and what's best for the Boks. There is no sense in playing a brand of rugby that is alien to the Bok mojo. He can now focus on getting the structures right.

Sure - but his team selection could jeopardise the Springbok performance against stronger teams with stronger forward combinations than they met on Saturday.  Remember the scourge of the Springbok forwards in Durban - Ayerza - was not playing.

By the way Dr Goebbels is a genius in what he used as a heading.  Barking dogs see, hear or sense a danger to their home and wans the potential intruder through their barking or alert the owner about the potential threat.  They do not bark purely for fun.
The members on this site smell disaster as a result of Meyer's serious deficiencies in selections and raise the alarm through what Dr Goebbels say is barking.  It is virtually inevitable that in two months time the "barking" would have been justified and I think that Dr Goebbels would be in for such a hard time he would run away like a dog with his tail between his legs
In another thread he is already indicating what his defense would be in such a case - but that would not wash, the dog s will come back and bite him.

Bullshit Moz, Meyer should have selected the right players some time back instead of investing in a bunch of washed up hasbeens......the man is a conservative clown who cant move on from his class of 2007....if he had his way we would have seen a WC squad including the likes of Kirchner, Habana, Fourie, Jean, Morne, du Preez, Pienaar, Steenkamp, Jannie, Brits, Bakkies, Flip, Matfield, Louw, Smith, Schalk and Alberts.

S15 results have little to do with being able to identify enough class talent to compile a test squad.

Rugby is a team game, you are as strong as your weakest link......those weak links being poor domestic coaches bar Ackerman, who continue to invest in poor players.

But that does not detract from the fact that the quality players still stand out and win their one on one battles, creating the right impressions......look no further than Lood playing in a losing Cheetahs side in 2014.....or Faf, Kriel and Vorster making an impact for middle of the table Lions......or Jessie Kriel making a huge impression in a bubbling Bulls side.

Point is a good coach would identify these players and select them for his national side, regardless of how their team fared in the S15. Favourable team results are not the measure of a good player. The good players stand out in average teams.

Meyer is poor when it comes to identifying talent......how on earth can the likes of Senatla, Combrink, Vorster, Faf, Kitshoff, Willemse, Jacques du Plessis and Jaco Kriel for instance not have been identified - its pathetic and the list does not end there.

As for our recent test history, well given how poor we have been for some time now under PDV and Meyer.....none of their teams was ever going to prove much given how poor the selections have been under these clowns.....so using tests as a measure is a bit of a joke.

If my side was selected and failed playing say 5 tests in a row then I'd say you have a point......but fact is, Meyer keeps failing with his and your side so you have nothing to stand by......whereas my calls have never been tested as a unit so you are not in a position to say my side would fail.

I take comfort in the fact that a Kiwi like Sas thinks my sides are 99% the sides he would select....it take a progressive Kiwi to see who are the best players in SA......the same kind of thinking that has the Kiwi's dominating the game.

Kiwi's are progressive when it comes to rugby, SAn's are conservative......Moz your sides, like Meyer are pathetically conservative and the very reason we have slipped to 5

The following comments of yours is interesting:-
"If we fail at the WC, unlike you I will be disappointed. But losing at the WC doesn't prove your team would have won. "
Are you already trying to find an escape route/excuse  from the inevitable departure from the WC?  Your subsequent sentence makes it sound like that.  The players you support would not be blamed - some others will have to be found to take the blame, while the actual diuds you support will be exonerated.
Fact is the older players you support like Matfield, Du Preez and Alberts will be our death knell in the WC.  So beware, the dogs you referred to are coming and the real dog would run away woith his tail between his legs.

You silly old man

The penny never seems to drop with you, does it?

Over the last few years you've come aboard here strutting your stuff ... telling us how you were thinking this and how you were thinking that ... and that Meyer seems to have agreed with your way of thinking each time.

That you and he are on the same page. That you have the same ideas.

Then you'd go through the lengthy period of patting yourself on the back, telling us how wonderful you are, how wise and knowledgeable the great and awesome Mozart is ... and how stupid the rest of us are.

I take it you've noticed that the Boks have plummeted to 5th in the world.

The worst EVER!!!

Could this be the direct result of your way of thinking?

Is it possible?

Are we really moving forward? Is this what progressing is??

Hmmmmmm??

Or is it perhaps a sign that things aren't going as well as you're telling us?

Could there be a hidden message ... one that you never noticed before ... somehow ... telling a different story to what you've been spewing these last few years.

I'm just asking?

To me it seems that you should maybe rather just accept your error, apologize to us for your complete ignorance ... shut your yap and listen to what the so called "stupid" posters are saying.

These "barking dogs" may just have a point ... and you, fool of a man ... may not!!

The very fact that we have only won 5 of our last 13 tests against major oppositions and the fact that we have slipped to number 5 seems to escape Moz.

But what the above does do is make a mockery of any of his calls or blind support of useless Meyer

All a little embarrassing when the results and rankings keep letting your convictions down.

But Moz will blindly support clueless Meyer making his name mud in the process.

You need results to back your convictions, failing which you end up looking like a bit of a fool

The Barking Dogs....Carbuncle, the Pervert and the Sapp.... are obsessed by the decline in the rankings, they cite it as evidence they are on the right track. But they have three problems.

1) The rankings have been very close from 2 to 5. For example Oz was in our shoes a short while ago. As long as the raw numbers are so close movements up or down are easily reversed. The real point is no other team has shown the consistency to challenge the ABs, but the nearest thing to a rival has been HM's Boks.

2) The top team, the ABs are following exactly HM's prescription of maintaining the team and only including new players where they perform at a high level over a long period....so players like McCaw, Carter and Conrad Smith, who the Pervert would call "geriatrics", are at no risk.

3) The recent Bok failures....in no way prove that the Barking Dog theory is correct. The Barking Dog theory would probably have led to wider losses. The best evidence comes from the Aussie game....we were 20 to 7 ahead when Jannie and Bissie were subbed for Malherbe and Strauss.....we were still 20 to 10 ahead when Pienaar was subbed for Reinach, Pollard for Lambie. Introducing these flavour of the day players led directly to that bad loss. As did the poor defence of Allende who let in the winning try.

The Aussie loss with two newbie centres, a newbie flyhalf and flavour of the day subs Lambie, Reinach and Malherbe proves nothing except the team needed more experience.

The problem of Dr Goebbels is that winning of matches and stats do not count at all - what counts according to him is reputation of players.  If they were in the 2007 WC squad and still playing they must be good.  Aging and present performance are not an issue at all.  His next requirement is that they must have been in the 2011 WC and the fact that the players then already was past their sell-bye date does not count at all.
He does not believe that age impacts on performance.   Anybody - with the only exception of Etzebeth - coming into the team can be criticized without necessarily having any grounds for it.  He does not hesitate to invent grounds which is highly imaginary to criticize players.
I said stats does not count with him - the fact that we have gone down to 5th in the grading does not count with him - we won the last test and that relates to only the deciding factor.   It does not matter which team we won against - it may be Outer-Mongolia and he would still say - look how wonderful my favourite players were, weather they factually were wonderful or not.
If what happened on Saturday when Du Toit replaced Alberts and it happened and Du Toit was better than Alberts - acknowledged widely in the media and on this site - he attacked Du Toit with venom.
In the end I fail to understand what plays a role in Mozart's thinking in rugby - other than he seems to get stuck in the past and refuse to acknowledge that younger players have any good in them.  He seems to dislike with  vengeance any player that may be a threat in selection to his favourite players.
If he cannot get his way, his response is always the same.  He starts personal attacks on anybody who differs from him.   Insofar as I am concerned I have no problems on the site with any members other than with him and Ceradunce - so am I guilty or is the boot on the other foot?   If I look at his comments on other members - he is as nasty to them as he is to me when they dare differ with him.

 Dr Goebbels
A liar will never change - he will remain a liar.
lets look at some of the comments of Dr Goebbels:-
"The top team, the ABs are following exactly HM's prescription of maintaining the team and only including new players where they perform at a high level over a long period....so players like McCaw, Carter and Conrad Smith, who the Pervert would call "geriatrics", are at no risk."
The difference that you completely miss out on centers around the issue of performance - not the age and experience of players.   If players still perform on the required level nobody would call the geriatrics - if they don't they qualify for that description.  You cannot accept that some of the players you support are not performing on the required anymore - so you invent reasons to support them.   Your normal attack centers on attacking the replacement players like Du Toit - especially of the replacement player performs better than the player he replaced.

"The recent Bok failures....in no way prove that the Barking Dog theory is correct. As did the poor defence of Allende who let in the winning try."

Here again we have to deal with the big lie.   Jannie and Bissie was not subbed at the same time.  Malherbe subbed Jannie in the second half.  There ws at that stage nothing wrong wioth the scrumming.  Bissie and Beast played on. When Beast and Bismarck was subbed by Strauss and Van der Merwe. The failure in the scrums was Van der Merwe - but you tried to blame Malherbe for it and lied outright about it.   The replacements had nothing to do with the loss and there is no indication that they contributed to it.  The main culprit was Van der Merwe that was twice penalized and put the whole team under pressure.  It is no use to argue against the facts above through making dubious statements and repeat the lies about the situation.

You concentrate on the Aussie game as if your life depends on it - but what about the other games we lost with the experienced players collapsing or caving in.  The fact that experienced players must perform is totally discarded by you.  That is why we are in the no 5 grading now - and the excuse you offered does not count.  We lost 8 of the last 13 matches against teams ranked 6 and above was the reason for the drop - one game made a very small difference.  Fact is those losses can be traced back to poor selection of so-called reputation players - selections you unashamedly supported and subsequent ignored the bugger-ups of the  experienced players.

So we have Moz telling us that his evidence is based on the Oz game when Jannie and Bismark were replaced......well for a start Bismark was replaced by an established player in Strauss who happens to be one of the best hookers in the game.

Secondly when Malherbe replaced Jannie, prior to Strauss coming on, we had our most dominating scrum of the game......concluding therefore that the Beast, Bismark and Malherbe frontrow was better than the Beast, Bismark and Jannie one.......something Moz conveniently ignores as it counters his assertion that we struggled when Jannie and Bismark were replaced.

The real issue was the introduction of Heinke v/d Merwe at loosehead who replaced Beast. Another pathetic Meyer selection.......what on earth was Heinke doing in the Bok squad in the first place, what the hell had he done to merit selection?

On came Heinke and the Bok scrum troubles started......a scrum is as strong as its weakest link. Heinke has never amounted to much and that test proved it. Seems useless Meyer has woken up to this fact as we have not seen Heinke again.

So as per usual Moz has it wrong......wanting us to believe that we lost against Oz because of the loss of Jannie and Bismark is laughable......if you want to blame a frontrow player for the loss, look no further than Heinke who.

More to the point no single player was responsible for the loss......the loss as with many recently is down to poor team selections and poor direction given to those teams......the issue is MEYER

Moz you keep paddling though.....we feel your pain.....the Meyer ship is going down fast, with you firmly on board

Meyer has never selected the form youngsters....for if he had, we would not have seen Kirchner, JP, Mvovo, Hendricks, Habana, Jean, Olivier, Morne, Pienaar, du Preez, Steenkamp, Heinke, Jannie, Brits, Bakkies, Flip, Matfield, Schalk, Louw, Smith and Alberts in the side in the last 18 months.

Malherbe was destroyed by Sio, Allende missed his tackles, Reinach was jittery.....we lost. Trying to pin the blame on Heinke when it was Malherbe being hammered is a typical Dave tactic.

There is no young player with a prayer of making a difference who hasn't been given a chance by HM. He has in fact been too profligate with the Bok jersey.

"That revealing Test match may well prove to be a blessing in disguise as it clearly caused Meyer to take stock of the tactical requirements that will need to be met in order to be successful at the World Cup."

losing to the pumas is a blessing???

mediocrity comes in many forms, but u always know it when u see it.

Think about it Sushi....do you think it's more of a wake up call if you lose to a better team or a worse team? No need to report on this one unless there is something novel in your thought process.

Moz sadly you always resort to lying when you are cornered.....we all know Malherbe was not dominated by Sio at all and that the issue lay with Heinke, the very player picked out by the ref and the one that has not smelt a bench spot since......so stop speaking utter shit.
de Allende had a great game, Reinach was not on long enough to merit any real opinion.
The issue was the team selection in the first place and the pathetic out of touch gameplan implemented by clueless Meyer.
Every young player we have is far better than the old farts Meyer has invested in.
Willie, Kriel and Andries Coetzee are far better than Kirchner
Senatla, v/Wyk, Sithole, Combrink, Rhule and Kolbe are better than Hendricks and Mvovo and probably better than Habana and JP these days
de Allende, Serfontein, Kriel, Vorster, JJ, Odendaal, Frans Venter, Sadie, Frans, Mnisi, Mapoe, Stokkies, v/Wyk are all better than Jean, Fourie and Olivier
Pollard, Jantjies, Goosen and Lambie are far, far better than Morne
Hougaard, Faf, Reinach, v/Zyl, Paige and Groom are all better than Pienaar and du Preez
Kitshoff, Nyakane, Marcel, Malherbe, Coenie, Thomas du Toit, Kebble and Koch are all better than Heinke v/d Merwe and Steenkamp
The old men rule at hooker
Etzebeth, Willemse, PSDT, Ruan Botha, Lewies, Jacques du Plessis and Lood are all far, far better than Matfield and Bakkies
Coetzee, Kolisi, Carr, Elstadt, v/d Walt, Mtembu, Arno Botha, CJ Stander, Jaco Kriel and Oupa are all better than Louw, Smith and Alberts
Investment in more of these youngster years ago would have seen us sitting pretty come this WC
Instead we have clueless Meyer mirroring your ignorant calls and with it 5 wins in 13 and sitting at No 5 in the rankings
Wake up Moz for goodness sake......geez cant you see the obvious? You are seriously making a fool of yourself with your calls and backing of a loser.
Who in their right mind would want 38 year old Matfield in their side when you have Etzebeth, Lood, Willemse, PSDT and du Plessis to choose from.....smell the roses man.

 Dr Goebbels
You were previously advised in the De Jager case to stay away from lying - but here you walked straight into it again.  In the above posting of yours about the replacements in the Aussie game - you never even mentioned Van der Merwe replacing Beast.  You implied that all replacements were made at the same time - which also was a lie.   You lied outright about what happened in the scrums when Van der Merwe came on and the fact that Van der Merwe was the real problem in a desperate attempt to blame Malherbe for the deficient scrumming.
If you did the  correct thing without lying you would get support - but lies do not get support of honest people.  Stop the lies and things would be better on this site.  However, it seems that such a thing is not possible s ince you are a habitual liar in any event.
