And then when you produce your stats you still have to apply observation. For example JJ made 50 out of 60 tackles, for a tackling success rate of 83.33%. Taute made 22 of 25 attempted tackles for a success rate of 88%. That would imply Taute was the better tackler. But Dagg gassed him through the outside gap in 2012 and produced an AB try. So one of his misses revealed a potentially fatal flaw, lack of sufficient acceleration to cover the outside gap.
So is JJ our man? Sadly again two of his misses on Bosch and on Barrett produced catastrophic tries. In both cases lack of nous and upper body strength were factors. Again, poor but not disqualifying stats until you look behind the numbers.
