at a cracking pace having elected to bat. Without the plum chucker Phansingo and with the addition of Abbott the team looks a lot more respectable. I have my hopes up.......

Interesting fact. Batting first against NZ we have won 5 out of 9 games. Batting second, we have won 11 out of 12. Interesting that we elected to bat first!

Denny
I am afraid it is not a cracking pace - the score now is 107/2 with Morne Van Wyk scoring 51 runs from 80 balls. That represents 3,8 rpo which is way too slow for ODI's.
The overall run rate is 4,38 - which is also too slow.
I am still not convinced they are doing well enough.

DAAbout Van Wyk...Besides having poor technique he also has very limited batting ability.....premeditated walking across the stumps is a disguise for his lack of ability to play straight.
Mike.... I posted an hour before you, at that time they were going at a cracking pace of 6 per over. Stepping into the breach I'm saying 265 is a good score, good enough to win.
I like this NZ side, it reminds me of previously good Protea sides.

AB changed the run-rate but he is unfortunately out.

There remains some worrying signs whether it be in their batting or bowling. They certainly didn't perform like a champion side.

This was a very desultory series....the Proteas look to be in an elevator going down as greats like Steyn come to the end of the road. I read a lot about how terrible Behardien is, but he scores consistently at a fast rate in the last 10 overs.

Actually, Behardien has impressed in the last two games, he's a thinker, doesn't give his wicket up like more talented players(eg Rossouw/Miller) and is showing a lot more substance since the WC. Steyn and Morkel had their grand final at the WC....I'm afraid you're right about the direction of their elevator.

Den watch a video of this kid van Niekerk winning the 400 metres at the World games. Great stuff, it's not all bad.
