It was an interesting situation today of the Sharks playing one of the weakest teams in Super 15 and the Bulls playing one of the strongest teams. So how did the two inside centers perform in the two games:-
Steyn0/0112/3/2001205/10/010/0
There can be no reasonable comparison between these two players - - especially looking at the stats for the various activities. Steyn's only positive was converting three penalties and a try conversion. Two of the kicks were difficult - the other two were easy. For the rest he carried the ball twice and even though he beat 1 defender - all of which happened behind the gain line, so there was no meter gaining in his carries. He off-loaded balls twice - which even though the off-loads resulted in nothing of substance was a positive, but he also gave away a penalty. A dead-beat game typical of the constantly talking Steyn.
On the other hand Serfontein scored a try and through quick thinking was instrumental in the scoring of another try. He carried the ball 3 times beating 3 defenders and making a territory gain of 23 meters. He also had a better tackle record than Steyn.
To compare these two centers with each other is like comparing chalk with cheese - the one performs well, the other one not.
