The Watson family from PE - with close ties to Rugby - has been reported to the Zondo Commission of Enquiry to huge scale bribery and corruption in getting state contracts.

The Hawks arrested six accused of corruption and mentioned two others to be arrested.   Gavin Watson was not arrested yet - but he is going to face the music too.

Now the Banks have closed the banking accounts effective from 28 February 2019 and the foirm has applied for voluntary liquidation.   I am waiting for the Banks to be called to give evidence before  the Zondo Commission  on the closure of the Bosasa  bank accounts.   That would in the light of Agrizzi's testimony will be fun.

This is not the only case of bribery, corruption and money-laundering involving the Watsons.  Luke Watson's father Cheeky is already facing charges on similar chances.

High time the house is cleared and the assets of at least two of the Watson brothers should be seized as it was obtained through dubious and potentially illegal means.

It will be interesting to see if the Watsons end up in jail, or will it be another Zuma scenario.

Just another case of corruption linked to Zuma. Every time light is shed on state capture it all seems like a tangled mess of corruption, but once all the dust has settled it always comes back to the usual suspects and eventually Zuma. We have not had a government for ages in South Africa. Every move and every contract and every decision made by the ANC was done to enable the large scale theft of money, and the cover up of that theft. No wonder everything is falling apart. I have one foot out of the door in SA, and I feel sorry for those that are unable to leave, but I will celebrate the day that the suffering of the masses in the country reaches a crises point, because they deserve to suffer for their part in keeping the ANC in power. It is just a pitty that such a beautiful country and so many innocent people will also pay the price.

Probably not. Not Cheeky in any case. He wasn’t involved in the day to day running if either Bosasa or Sondolo. Gavin was.”

I have an idea that there will eventually be a big cover up. Reason is that if Watson goes down, Linda Mti will go down as well. Mti goes down, then Danny Jordaan will follow him. Jordaan goes down, then you may see a whole host of dominoes following.

This one is not only Zuma. This story started long before Zuma was the head honcho. It dates back to the days of Mbeki.

Hollywood is bloody slow - what is coming out in the Zondo Commission is enough for a series of movies. about bribery and corruption.   Add to that the information placed before the other two Commissions - the one dealing with the NPA and the other with the PIF.    Then also the VBS bank heist..

Lots of material for action too - death threads and murders of ANC members in KwaZulu-Natal and elsewhere when they threaten to expose the crooks running the local authorities and threats against journalists as well.   I think Jacques Pauw will help out a lot with his recent blockbuster book - The Presidents Keepers.

There is so much material available it is amazing - it made the mafia and  crime movies in the USA looks like milksop efforts compared to what is happening here in SA.   They can get here to make the movies - note I say more than one - and the necessary infrastructure and environmental beautiful scenery are there for use.    .

It is a pity that this most beautiful country imaginable has come to the stage where it is now.   It has gone backwards with the speed of lightning decaying into another hell hole of Africa.

The education system produces school finishers who are basically illiterate - the state hospitals are death traps - often without medicine and equipment,    The powers to be cannot care a hell for the poor - money that should benefit them is stolen left right and center.   The new rich governing elite drive around in Lambourghini's -  Porshe's and Ferrari's are not good enough for them.   They live in palaces while the poor live in slums and starve.

The wealthy and educated can leave - the elderly like myself should have left 50 years ago.  As a pensioner I cannot leave for any country.  Will just have to stay and hope that like Zimbabwe the country will not run out of food.   The looting continued unabated and the next target are the food-producing farms to be taken over by the looters like happened in Zimbabwe - once the breadbasket of Africa.   The food production dwindled so much that the foreign countries have to feed the starving masses of Zimbabwe through food-aid..   A quarter of the Zimbabwe population has fled to SA to escape from poverty and political oppression - where will we be able to flee to?

I have given up hope for the future - there is none for any Whites, Coloureds or Indians in SA.   The only hope for most people are that the Judiciary are still standing firm against corruption, racism and oppression of people.   But how long will that last?   In Zimbabwe when the Courts stood up against abuse the Government threatened them and forced them out - replacing them with lawless cadres.  Will that also happen in SA?

Anyway - I still love my country the wonderful climate and scenery.   My ancestry has been in the country for many thousands of years on the female side.    If you ever saw the movie Out of Africa you would realize why people get addicted to the countries in Africa.  But  now - Cry the Beloved Country.

To the rest, I sympathise with your situation. I personally don't see any beauty in South Africa though. Anyone who believes that the country has a future is deluded. The writing was on the wall nearly thirty years ago.

Thousands of years? I have to agree with Aug here. It is impossible to trace a direct lineage that far back. Maybe a couple of hundred years, but not thousands. Even a royal lineage would battle to trace a family tree just a thousand years. That said Mike, I do get your point. On my mother's side of the family, my lineage can be traced back to the earliest European settlers in South Africa. This is my country, my family have been here for as many generations as any black (but not Khoi or San) inhabitant, and it is a beautiful place, Cape Town, Knysna, Wilderness, the Sabie/Graskop/Hazyview area in Mpumalanga, Kruger National Park, Wild Coast, and so on and so on and so on. Of natural beauty there is no shortage, unfortunately there is a thing called a politician, and there are stupid gullible masses to vote, and those two things have ruined any future the country may have had for prosperity.

"Migration of humanity began from the Middle-East,"

Not true either Aug. All current science points to the fact that the earliest humans originated in Southern Africa, and migrated northwards. Those that did so became much more technologically advanced than those that remained in Southern Africa, there was a point where there was a mass dispersion from the middle east, but that came much later. Of course that is neither here nor there, because those in Southern Africa were very primitive and would have had no records of anything significant, especially not family lineage.

Just to add to the whole family lineage thing, I don't know how many of you are interested in genealogy but there are some amazing tools out there and I use one called Geni.com
I could always trace my Mom's side of the family back to the 1820 Settlers and beyond and I could go back as far as 1782. When I plugged all the info I had into Geni.com, within a few weeks I got some "matches" . . . where names, dates of birth, siblings etc have a positive match with someone else's data . . . and my tree expanded exponentially. I can now trace both my grandmothers lines back to the early 1500s.
I do agree that going back over a thousand years is highly unlikely but not impossible in certain cultures. The American Indians and the Maori are two cultures that I know of where as a child you learn your ancestry off by heart going back many generations.
Obviously none of this talk of genealogy applies to someone like DumbAss. DumbAss's family tree isn't actually a tree at all but a cactus . . . because everyone on it is a prick.

7.2-million-year-old pre-human remains found in the Balkans New hypothesis about the origin of humankind suggests oldest hominin lived in Europe

“The common lineage of great apes and humans split several hundred thousand earlier than hitherto assumed, according to an international research team headed by Professor Madelaine Böhme from the Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment at the University of Tübingen and Professor Nikolai Spassov from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The researchers investigated two fossils of Graecopithecus freybergi with state-of-the-art methods and came to the conclusion that they belong to pre-humans. Their findings, published today in two papers in the journal PLOS ONE, further indicate that the split of the human lineage occurred in the Eastern Mediterranean and not -- as customarily assumed -- in Africa.”

I am not claiming that one can trace the exact linage of the people in Southern Africa before 1652 at all.   What is evident the San and Khoi people were the original residents of what is today South Africa thousands of years before the arrival of Van Riebeek in the Cape.

An example of their existence can be found at the estimated 4000 old sea rock "construction" in Still Bay used to catch fish at low tide.

Eva of the Goringhaikona was one of the locals and not a White,   She had a daughter by the name of Pieternella Meerhof - whose descendants by marriage  by 1806 made up a high percentage of the recorded Dutch population of circa 1 6000 in the then Cape Colony.   Pieternella in fact married Pieter Zaayman - from whom all Zaaiman/Saayman families in SA  are descended,  Her descendants through marriage of her daughters included amongst others General Smuts and President Kruger.

The orc has gone bananas - he does not have a clue as to what he is talking about..

"These Khoekhoe nations and S?n are grouped under the single term Khoes?n as representing the indigenous substrate population of Southern Africa prior to the hypothesized Bantu expansion reaching the area, roughly between 1,500–2,000 years ago.

Many Khoes?n peoples are the direct descendants of a very early dispersal of anatomically modern humans to Southern Africa, before 150,000 years ago. Their languages show a vague typological similarity, largely confined to the prevalence of click consonants, and they are not verifiably derived from a common proto-language, but are today split into at least three separate and unrelated language families (Khoe-Kwadi, !Ui-Taa and Kx'a). It has been suggested that the Khoekhoe?aen (Khoekhoe peoples) may represent Late Stone Age arrivals to Southern Africa, possibly displaced by Bantu immigration.[5]

Maaik, you can't be 100% sure, but it's highly probable that you are correct.

How the orc can claim what he did is totally deranged.   He is first of all finding a problem with what I said about the maternal origin of the descendants of Eva of the Goringhaikona - who was a Khoi-San resident prior to arrival of Van Riebeeck in the Cape in 1652.  After that there are full records of what happened,

Those people was settled in the area for thousands of years - even 4000 years is thousands - is it not so?   The orc is mixed up - he knows zero about history - the same as with rugby.

Auge, I know we've been lied to about lots of the last few K years of history, butthe Blombos cave and the stone fish traps at Stilbaai are pretty straight forward and well documented. I don't know how it fits in with the rest of history, but the people referred to as the Koi San in todays terms have been around these parts for thousands of years. The evidence is all over the place. Exactly how and where they lived is a different story, but they were here first.

.. and if you don't think SA is a beautiful country with fantastic weather, you set the bar real high. I know our politics suck ATM and the future is bleak, but this this place is worth fighting for.

Draad

You are right - the original residents of the southern and Western Cape were nomadic people so there is no real evidence of residential camps or settlements.   There are records about trading missions from Cape Town and and also to the Riversdale area.

There was a pox epidemic in the area in 1713 - which wiped out a large proportion of the colonials and the Khoi San in the area,   It was after that epidemic that the remaining Khoi San went to the mission stations and farmers to survive - they lost their lifestyle.

My ancestor Pieter Saayman and his wife Pieternella Saayman (Meerhof) also died in that epidemic.   One of their sons married the daughter of Bartholomeus Coopmans and the Saayman family descended in the main from that couple.   That is why generations of Saaymans used the name Bartholomeus as their first name.   My father was named Bartholomeus, so was my late younger brother and my nephew, who now lives in Essex.

Now 20 generations down ...one of two the power 20. What is 2 to the power 20? Well it's 1048576....so Tokkie has 1/1048576 of Aikona's blood. Assuming of course the whole story is true. Smallpox Epidemic Strikes at the CapeHome > Dated Event > Smallpox Epidemic Strikes at the CapeMonday, 13 February 1713

Introduction:

Smallpox epidemic strikes the refreshment station at the Cape, after arriving with the crew on a Dutch ship. The disease wreaks irreparable havoc amongst the indigenous and colonist population of the Cape Peninsula and adjacent interior. Hardest hit are the indigenous Khoisan people. They appear to have much less resistance to the disease than the slaves and the colonists have and suffer huge losses to their numbers.

The Smallpox Epidemic of 1713

On 13 February 1713 something as unlikely as the dirty linen of the crew of a Dutch ship that had stopped at the refreshment station of the Cape, wreaked irreparable havoc amongst the indigenous and colonist population of the Cape Peninsula and adjacent interior.

The crew, under the command of Commissioner Johannes van Steeland, had come down with smallpox, a disease that was fatal at the time. Their clothing and other linen were sent to the slave lodge of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to be laundered. Within weeks the Company slaves were succumbing at the rate of about eight persons a day to the disease. White colonists were also beginning to be affected. By May 1713 the smallpox disease had reached pandemic proportions. The dead could not be buried in coffins, as there was a shortage of wood at the Cape.

By June 1713 the epidemic was largely contained on the Cape Peninsula. However, it spread into the adjacent interior. The white settler farmers were the first to be affected. Farming came to a standstill. Emergency supplies had to be imported from Batavia. However, at the end of 1713 the disease was no longer a threat to the white population. Nevertheless approximately a quarter of the colonist population had died. As soon as the epidemic was over for the European people, the Cape authorities ordered the immediate reconstruction of the affected areas.

However, the indigenous Khoisan people were not as fortunate. They appeared to have much less resistance to the disease than the slaves and the colonists had. The disease was foreign to the Khoikhoi. Hence they had no recourse to indigenous medicines that could be used for this disease. It appears that they felt that the colonisers were actively visiting this evil and death upon them. So the Khoi fled the Peninsula with all their belongings in the hope of escaping the smallpox. But this was in vain: even as they took ill they died almost immediately. The unaffected Khoi groups whom they encountered in the interior to which they had fled, were terrified of the consequences of contact, and consequently killed the fleeing Khoi.

By February 1714 the few Khoi survivors reported to the Governor of the Cape that not even ten percent of the original Khoi population of the south-western Cape had survived the epidemic. Whole clans were annihilated in most instances. In other instances, the few survivors could not reconstruct a coherent clan as even the captains had died. For this reason, the indigenous clan names were lost. Instead the Khoikhoi became known by the derogatory term "Hottentots".

As the smallpox epidemic decimated most of the Khoikhoi, what remained of their economic strength after colonisation was further eroded. Settler farmers moved into areas previously inhabited by the Khoi and started a new existence for themselves with the aid of the Cape government.

According to this table, the population expanded during 1756-1795

1756 around 5000.00, then in around 44 years is becoming 16000. More than triple the population.

It is not clear how many of these were new Dutch immigrants, or if this is when Eva was most promiscuous.
