the game has changed but sadly it seems a lot of south africans still think its 1995

taking a post mortem in my view of the best rwc to date its very obvious that the game has really changed.
the effects of 7's and the massive amount of nz coaches coaching overseas has seen the style of game has changed to suite the elv's that was introduced post 2007.
that being said we need to do some soul searching as a country if we want to catchup to the movement in world rugby.
we are far behind the cue ball and we need a change of mindset if we want to be a force in world rugby again
total rugby is winning rugby and defence and taking your penaltys is not enough to win a rwc. 

 We are not far behind,  we were 2 points off playing conservatively,  imagine what we'll be capable of when we actually start competing. 

 "total rugby" is not something started at Bok level. One other problem is that South Africa in general lacks the intellectual property to change from a 10 man game . Total rugby or running rugby is not push-button based.

 dbdraad 2 points does not really reflect the massive difference in skillsets....take the past 10 odd years into account and as they stack up you will see how big the difference is. from local super 15 to international level.
at denny 100% it takes time to perfect but in my view meyer does not have the skillset nor the conviction to create this enviroment at a national level for 3 plus years

 Agreed Meyer doesn't have but I've already pointed out that it shouldn't fall on the shoulders of the national coach to which you agreed. Fact is the national coach is expected to play a style which is foreign to the players, He'll it's even foreign a franchise level. So why I ask once again is Meyer to be blamed? One other thing the ABs played a style of game not much different to Bok rugby at its best and that's including the quarter final when Carter kicked better and more than our Pollard.

 denny the differences between the all blacks pattern and the bok pattern is massive...cant even compare the 2....the all black pattern is littered with basics first and foremost where as the bok pattern is over focused on forward play.

 So now are you saying the Boks should be playing like the ABa?

 The Boks game is very effective....we simply didn't execute it properly. But here's the point, the ABs are better at the AB game....they have better resources to play the AB game. If we play the AB game we are certain losers...as Oz were today .
In strategy it's called a "me too" strategy, often implemented with total lack of success by a more weakly positioned competitor.
We shouldn't try to match our opponents' strengths...we should attack their weaknesses and try to play to our own strengths.
Its kinda obvious.

 The game has changed - the Springbok game has not changed,  The result is that we frequently come short.  Over the last year we have lost against New Zealand (3), Australia (2), Argentina, Wales, Ireland and Japan.   That means 9 losses out of 19 played,  If we look at this year it was 5 losses and 5 wins.   An atrocious performance record that took us at one stage to number 6 in the world rankings.

The last quotation must be a joke.  We lost half of the games because the Boks game is effective, but the execution is defective.    Are we not able to execute out own game properly?
Now lets get to the reason for performance deficiencies in games.  The first thing is there is no discernible plan - the games played showed a repetition of rubbish that can never be called a game plan.   The forwards battle to win a ball - the ball is passed to another forward who crashball in effectively.   This is repeated 70% of the time.    Against weak teams it works - bot always though, Eddie Jones new what was coming and worked out hw to deal with the lack of a proper game plan.    Even poor execution cannot be blamed for absence if an game plan.

i never said copy the ab's but if you have a obvious weakness is it not the coaches job to nulify and remove those weaknesses ???
our so called strenghts are not at all strenghts as its easy to defend and plan against....we have ditched our tradional values and pattern for this rubbish smash it all until 12am which for the latter part of the 20 odd years has been lets be honest less than effective.
the game has changed but if you want to be world beaters you have to move with the trends. dont ditch your strong suits but morph them and mould a new style that will be effective and less predictable
meyer just does not have that vision and ability to change....he is a great coach but does not have that ability to think long term....he cannot see it and thats his greatest downfall as a coach
he cannot implement that vision as he makes emotive decisions based on sentiment and a miss placed loyalities.
we wanted to see the boks move and change but he has done the direct opposite.
