Willie Leroux lined up at second receiver and took most of the attacking responsibilities away from Morne.

Willie Leroux was an unknown entity at the time, so he was less marked and very effective on the attack as a playmaker.

Nowadays Leroux sits wider, probably given the fact that Pollard can take the attacking responsibilities.

Willie Le Roux and Morne Steyn played together exactly six times. Three times in 2013 with Willie Le Roux on the wing in the first two. They also played three in 2014, all three with Willie at FB and MS at flyhalf. Four tests all together with Willie at fullback and Morne at flyhalf.

Meyers best years were in 2013 and 2014. Meyer was useless in 2012 and 2015

Are you saying that Meyer’s best years were when he used Morne correctly?

Are you saying Meyer did not use Morne in 2012?

No I didn’t. You talked about the tactical use of the Steyn/Le Roux combination. I merely pointed out that they were only deployed as a fullback/flyhalf combination on four occasions. Once in 2013 and three times in 2014. Your next point was that HM’s best years were in 2013 and 2014. See what you did there yourself?

It is hard to imagine that Morne had an 80% win record without Leroux- or with anyone in fact.

Additionally, the forward pack was dominant when Morne was being used. They declined as Meyer play the likes of Alberts into the ground. Vermeulen hurt his neck - and they bok pack no longer bullied the other teams.

Can a list be provided for what games Morne played in during 2012, 2013 and 2014?

If I recall Lambie, Goosen- and then finally Pollard were preferred to him.

"Can a list be provided for what games Morne played in during 2012, 2013 and 2014?"

Morne Steyn - 2012 through 2014

You may notice the tendency when using Ou Maaikie's favourite yardstick, i.e. games won v games lost.

Morne Steyn's wins count over his Bok career counts at 63.3%

Guess his winning ratio during his time under HM as Bok coach? Yep. That's correct. 76%

Johan Goosen under HM was 50%.

And Elton Jantjies got the same % as Goosen albeit having played in only two tests.

And then there was Handre Pollard. Oh damn, at 60%, he also got a lower win ratio under HM than More Steyn.
