The following from News 24:-
"Ulster number eight Nick Williams has been banned for eight weeks after being cited for striking Cardiff Blues' Wales international fullback Rhys Patchell, the Celtic League announced on Wednesday.
With the current season due to finish at the end of May, Williams will not be able to resume playing until September 1.
Williams was sin-binned for making illegal contact with Patchell's head at the breakdown in the first half of Ulster's 36-17 home win last Friday, which resulted in the Welshman being stretchered off and taken to hospital."
The above is in total contrast to what happened in the case of Heika Elliot in the game between the Sharks and the Chiefs. Granted Beast did not go to hospital - but what Elliot did was similar to what Williams did. However, Williams got an 8 week ban - Elliot got a 1 week ban.
There is something seriously wrong with the application of sanctions by the Sanzar judicial officers. Some players and teams are treated with kid gloves and others are heavily penalized for the same or similar offenses. It is really time for Sanzar to get some uniformity into the system and to clean up their totally insufficient penalties by getting some uniformity in place.
