Damien continues to make lots of metres and beat lots of defenders. But he also continues to tackle at 75%. Pienaar's tackling stats are also woeful as are Willies' and Pollard's.

 

Four of our subs conceded penalties....Raainacht, Mohoje, Strauss and Heinke(twice).  That's one more than our starters.

 

 

Kriel beat 6 defenders and missed two tackles.....for a positive one on one ratio.

 

De Allende beat 3 defenders and missed 6 ....for a negative ratio.

 

 

Fardy 8 for 23, Hooper 7 for 13 and Higginbottom 3 for 23......dominated Louw 2 for zero, Coetzee 7 for 12 and Burger 8 for 5 in metres gained. We need a ball carrier.

 

 

But the Boks were not the dominant team that lost the 2011QF. This time the Aussies dominated the stats. It sounds like defending a lead....the old Bok heart attack inducer was the culprit. The Boks are on the right, 2015 on top....2011 on the bottom:

Interesting indeed, but I was called effing stupid for saying we had a collapse in the midfield.
And where were those metres made by Damian? What was the attacking context and outcome? So far I have more faith in Kriel as an outstanding finisher. But too bad Willie is doing the usual cover-up ala Kolbe at the Stormers. Our bench was hopeless, and predictably so.

Exactly that. The Aussies were nowhere until Kriel scored early in the second half to put the Boks 13 points clear. This prompted the entire front row being replaced and suddenly we were kicking everything into Aussie hands, putting ourselves under pressure and conceding penalty after penalty, quite a few at scrumtime. Late in the second half they showed the last 10 penalties conceded in the game, and the Boks had conceded 8 against Aussie's 2. I don't understand why you would break up a team that is winning, and winning well, by wholesale, unneeded replacements.

Kriel was really good as was de Allende...I can't believe he missed that many tackles.....watching the game those stats appear suspect.
The Bok centres dud nor get much ball

 Good post Blikkies.Problems were there were some dud players. matfiled whilst on the park showed he is not even club standard. Lood was far, far superior.Mohojo is a bad joke. heineke on the loosehead was poor and must go.We kicked our ball away  mindlessly in the second half.JP is a loafer and Habana also needs to up the ante. Go looking for work!The subs made were not made with winning the game in mind.
bright spots were the play of the two centers and guys like Marcell, Eben (Best lock in the world)  the mighty Burger. Jannie played well and was industrious. Bissie was immense.
A good result for the Boks as a loss will focus the mind more than a win.
Meyer needs to cull the weak links who are very easy to identify if you know your rugby.
We have a number of players out and whilst the first string was on it was going fine. Shows the Boks will be fine for RWC.
We have the makings of a backline that can attack. Jessie Kriel's try was superb.
Scrummie and right wing need addressing. 

 Mozart's way of evaluating stats are again utter BS - but that is standard with him and his deductions equally so.
Lets look at his evaluation of the Kriel and De Allende missed tackle issue and defenders beaten.   De Allende attempted 21 tackles - missing 6 - Kriel attempted 6 tackles missing 2.  The missed tackle ratio was similar.  No to go and compare that with defenders beaten is making up a dream situation with absolute no basis.
I believe that Pienaar was again utterly useless - both in the kicking game and his defence.  Like last week when he buggered up in the case of Burden, this week    He missed all three his attempted tackles.   He kicked balls badly and inaccurately and Folau played the fool with him.
One of our lucky things in the match was the early replacement of Matfield.   In the 17 minutes he was on the field of play - he assisted in making three tackles and took one line-out - utterly and spectacularly useless.  If he stayed on the field of play we would have lost by ten points more.   He did ner to squat in the 17 minutes he was on the field of play - was mostly standing around behind the mauls doing nothing.  he was normally assisted or assisting in making tackles and the players went forward when tackled.  De Jager made 18 tackles - missing nil - and there was a huge difference in the quality of the tackles - Matfield's tackles were weak, De Jager's tackles were strong often tackling ball carriers back.
The problem that Pakie raised was exact.  The game was killed by the tendency to want to protect a lead and by aimless and inaccurate kicking away of possession - the worst culprit being Pienaar.        

Pakie we put too much emphasis of winning as opposed to defeating. Score one more try and we had an opportunity of getting into the Aussies minds. As things stand with 3 close matches...today, last year and in RWC11 ...all going to Oz, they have the edge. We had another Quinton de Kock moment...snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

 Fox,  you are wrong,  DdA had a great game.  Frans would have killed the backline even more. We should have kicked  less and the subbing of Bissie and Beast cost us. 

 Moz,  thats true,  thanks to Meyer making unforced subs. 

Sounds that way.  

Not to mention the fact that useless Meyer had us kicking possession away while the Aussies plated the rugby......we will be challenging the Argies for the RC wooden spoon thanks to the woefully incompetent Meyer.
All i can say is I told you so 

 Mozart is as mad as a March Hare when it comes to sport.  His totally baseless evaluation of Kriel and De Allende is a useless interpretation never used before by anybody and he should know that.
Then to come up and blame De Kock for a poor throw-in of a ball in the CWC - while everything that was wrong was the fact that was discussed in detail on the site - should be taken for what it is - lunacy.
The problem yesterday was easily identifiable.   Defective team selection by Meyer, wrong substitutions, wrong game plan and the problems stemming from it.   All the above was the result of the standard Meyer rubbish.
Poor selections
The following was poor selections:-
JP Pietersen, Ruan Pienaar, Victor Matfield, Heinke van der Merwe, Teboho Mohoje
Pietersen is too slow to be a wing and his role in the team in the absence of attacking ability is seriously questionable.
Ruan Pienaar flopped in the game against the World 15 and flopped again yesterday = time for a change is overdue
Victor Matfield was shown up badly yesterday as physically deficient.  The scrums was stagnant while he was on the field of play, when eh was replaced it turns around completely.   He did as near to squat as possible and a decent lock as a sub would have gone a long way to improve the situation.  Even Naas Botha said with him on the field of play we have a Tight 4 situation.

Oupa Mohoje is a club player, nothing more.   We need a competitive loosie replacement - end of story
Meyer's substitutions
Meyer was forced into subbing Matfield and for a while in the first half Jannie du Plessis.  That was fine - no problem.   However, his other subs amongst the forwards was unadulterated rubbish because of poor team selection and timing of the changes - for instance to replace Bismarck when he did was plain stupid.

The game plan of Meyer was fine in the first half - but changed in the second half.  After Kriel's try - the situation changed and the players started to kick balls away aimlessly and inaccurately - the main problem being Pienaar.  The whole plan seemed to be trying to protect the lead.         
  

I looked at every scrum and our problem was at tighthead after the subs. Easily seen because we went backwards at tighthead. It's fine to blame Heinke, he wasn't great....but he wasn't the problem.  

 This is the standard Mozart crap - he looked at every scrum after the change - but he failed to find the real problem with the scrum.  This is the normal of BS he normally writes.  He failed to remember that Jannie du Plessis  was off in the first half for a while as well and Malherbe was pon in two scrums - where there was no problem at all. The scrums went really pear-shaped when Strauss and Van der Merwe came on.   He missed that because of his obsession with some players.  And who was penalized -  not Malherbe but Strauss and Van der Merwe.
How can one ever take seriously what that clown writes?
