Stephanie's form does not merit selection ahead of Matfield. He looks like the oldest guy on the pitch huffing and puffing. His hair is going grey the more tired he gets.
Serfontein does not have the awareness to be create space for his backline.

What a silly team. Go into the WC quarters with a tighthead who is a penalty waiting to happen...he has the Greyling problem, he is too stretched out. The moment the scrum moves he is on the deck and then it's the refs call.
Allende and Kriel are going to cost us...but there are no options. Step is worse.
Lomp  ahead of Victor is probably the right call to start, given Victor would not have played for 3 weeks ...but I'm not expecting much the moment he comes up against a tough pack, as we saw against the Bargies.
Starting Stephanie is not worth commenting on....stupid doesn't begin to describe it.
Connie is another laugh....the man can't scrum.
As with your calls for the Boks to exit early, your team is just silly...amateurish.

Best side by some distance given the squad......it loses all the passengers like Matfield, Louw and penalty machine Jannie.

The only players I am forced to select are passive Pienaar and washed up Alberts.

Malherbe has been dominant in all his scrums at test level to date, far far better than has been Jannie who costs us 3 penalties a game and cant tackle.

Kindly provide evidence of Coenie not being able to scrum this year - load of bullshit.

The centre pair is by far the best attacking pair in the WC.....by some distance.

My side is a winning side, unlike the rubbish Meyer will come up with we no show Louw will be retained, lightweight Vic will replace the massively impressive Lood and useless Jannie will replace Malherbe.......the kind of calls that will see us lose the QF

Some selections I don't agree with, e.g. Matfield to start (he should be on the bench), Alberts to start with Burger on the bench (should be reverse)
Selection of Pollard to start with Lambie on the bench is what the article calls for but if these two youngsters can't land their goal kicks Steyn will have to be ready. Maybe Steyn on the bench with Pollard starting is a better choice.

No ways should Alberts be ahead of Burger

Morne should be nowhere near the side......Steyn's goal kicking yesterday was crap for a strat

Pollard to start with Lambie on the bench.....easy call

Sharkbok......SPDT in Saffex's team was selected at #7 can you in your wildest dreams even suggest that Greybeard should come in ahead of SPDT on the flank?
Or replacing de Jager with Greybeard at #5?
Just asking...........
We want to win don't we!!!!!!

The comments of Mozart is crazy and shows total non-comprehension of the gam of rugby.  The team should be as given by Dave.
Morne is a disaster waiting to happen - the Perth disaster is fresh in my mind.  Lets look at his defense.   Throughout the test series of 2012-13 his missed tackle ratio on average was static at 25 - which is way too high for any backline player.   However, in the Perth test the missed tackle ratio was 46% and in the semi-final and final of the Top 14 competition this year it was 55%.  Yesterday Morne missed the only tackle that came his way.   Can he be relied upon to defend in the channel - Definitely not.
Morne has the reputation of being calm under pressure - but he lacks execution and makes major bugger-ups at crucial times of tests and also in crucial Super 15 games when he was still playing in that competition.   These bugger-ups (and I could give a list if those actually creates doubts about his calmness - but more especially so his decision-making as well.  There are a number of examples where these failures caused major problems for the teams he played for.
To bring in Morne is like causing the destruction of our chances to win in the quarterfinal.   He is bound to panic under pressure and th result was all too evident in games over the last 3 years.   Let the Perth test be a perfect example what can be expected from him.
What was evident  in the Japanese test was that our Tight 5 misfired.  The key to that misfiring was Matfield - who did not execute Meyers game plan as to driving mauls.  The reason is obvious - Matfield is physically deficient to catch the ball and themn co-ordinate the driving mauls.  In driving mauls for the bulls and other game he was just pushed out of the melee and ended up on the grass beside the mauls.  He would then rejoin the mauls pushing very poorly from behind.   In the Japanese game Matfield spend most of his time standing around among the backline players.   During the past year Matfield was a crucial negative element in the Tight 5 - effectively reducing it to a Tight 4.  In the tests afainst Wales since last year our Tight 5 progressively weakened and account to a large extent to the losses suffered by the Springboks.   Matfield's further partticipation would destroy any winning chances we may have, since it would destroy our competitiveness in games.
The third problem is Jannie du Plessis whose performance outsider is non-existent barring donating penalties to opposing teams and in scrumming is totally unconvincing.
I think that the only place I really differ from Dave is on the loosie issue.   I would rather play the Louw, Burger and Vermeulen combination to start with.  Against NZ I would use the same bench on that one as was used yesterday.  I would in matches afainst NH countries I would put Du Toit as replacement lock and Alberts as replacement loosie - largely Meyer made a mess with his selections of loosies for the tournament squad.   Against any SH country - Alberts should not be anywhere near the team at all.  He is way to slow to eb acceptable against mobile players from these countries.  He is in fact no loosie at all - since he is so limited in execution ability.
Against Wales my team would be -
15 Le Roux, 14 Pietersen, 13 Kriel, 12 De Allende, 11 Habana, 10  Pollard, 9 Du Preez (c), 8 Vermeulen, Burger, Louw, 5 De Jager, 4 Etzebeth, 3 Malherbe, 2 Bismarck du Plessis, 1 Mtawarira
16  Strauss, 17 Nyakane, Oosthuizen, Du Toit, Alberts, Paige, Lambie, Serfontein.
Against any SH side the side will be as follows:-

15 Le Roux, 14 Pietersen, 13 Kriel, 12 De Allende, 11 Habana, 10  Pollard, 9 Du Preez (c), 8 Vermeulen, Burger, Louw, 5 De Jager, 4 Etzebeth, 3 Malherbe, 2 Bismarck du Plessis, 1 Mtawarira
16  Strauss, 17 Nyakane, Oosthuizen, Matfield,  Du Toit, Paige, Lambie, Serfontein.
Both Matfield and Alberts are in fact anathema to winning chances = but there is nobody else in the squad.

@ArthurJohn- I assume Saffex is selecting Stephanie on the bench at lock- as their are 2 loosefowards on the bench.

Lambie has had zero good tests at 10. Was embarrassing against Japan in the worst defeat in Bok history. You want him to play? Madness.

Stephanie against the US b team...no metres gained, one missed tackle, one turnover...one penalty. Dominant stuff.

This is hilarious! Damian, Kriel and Steph are now world beaters after a game against the USA 2nd team! Even funnier is that only one player did anything. I said Steph could be our new Albert Van Den Berg. I must apologise to Albert.
Andrews must be feeling at least a little embarrassed. I half feel like sending him a lifebuoy in preparation for his next prediction.

Allende/Kriel vs Roberts/North has to be a big concern in the Bok camp. Stephanie is there to keep the groupies like Mike happy, he won't be there in the knockouts.

I put in Du Toit because of his performances in line out and mauls - ie the tight 5 performance where Matfield is useless.  A reliable third option in line-outs - eg Read int the AB team - is invaluable and a real advantage.  The one person who must not be anywhere near the team is Matfield.  we need a Tight 5 and not a Tight 4 and a passenger.
Two reasons why Matfield is a liability can be found in the last two AB tests where he buggered up badly in line-outs in the last 10 minutes in each of the two tests.
The lack of rugby knowledge of Mozart iro of rugby is really amazing.

Steph is the softest lock we have ever fielded in my lifetime. And his durability is such that he makes Bekker look like a steel girder.

The whole Stephanie thing is a complete myth. I remember the hype before his first S15 game, so vociferous I was curious to see the kid. What I saw was a boy who clearly wasn't fully mature, tossed around like toothpick. But this is three years later and he still looks like a kid out there.
The fact that he still isn't a contributor is disappointing for his fans...but like true groupies they still believe.

First I saw of him was the Super XV opener last year versus the Bulls. Jake orchestrated several crossfield kicks for him to latch onto and he bungled every single one of them. A shame too because Lambie actually put those balls on the money. Was invisible for the rest of it... he did manage to rip Serfontein' shirt, so that added to the myth of his raging dark had ou.

The worst center I have seen over the past four years in Super 15 was by some great distance was Fransie.   He was absolutely harmless in attack and consistently worse in defense than De Allende.   He is not the one to blame - his wacky knee probably adds to the problems encountered by Fransie.
Serfontein is not as bad as you make him out to be - he is not as effective as he should be in attack  and is reasonably sound in defense,   He is definitely miles better than Fransie in any aspect of the game.  Verbal diarrhea  to try and exonerate Fransie from the above statement will never work.

MIKE,I like you QF side, the only change I would make is Victoria in for Steph. This is based on his lack of game time and we may very well need him down the track.

To my mind I would not bring in Matfield only if either Etzebeth or De Jager is out with an injury.   I do not like the lack of contribution in Tight 5 play which is found iro Matfield.
Matter of fact in view of the line-outs I would like to have additional jumpers and tempted to start with Du Toit and move Burger to the openside - especially against the All Blacks to neutralize Read.
