In the first half before Jannie was taken off the field the scrum was at best static. Then Jannie went off for a test and Malherbe came on. The first scrumn after that change the Aussie scrum was in disarray going back meters. Jannie came back and the static situation returned.
At the second half Jannie did not take the field at the start of the second half and the scrumming was static - until Van der Merwe and Strauss came on. Shortly thereafter Malherbe injured his hip - but stayed on the field of play despite the injury. He remained solid in the scrum - except for one where he went slightly back. Factually the problems was all on the loosehead side with Van der Merwe.
However, Mozart had to find a reason for the scrum deficiencies in the Aussie game and obviously went for one of his pet hates. He went further and insisted that Malherbe was dropped from the team on Saturday because he was inadequate.
What happened in fact was that the injury did not clear itself up - even by this weekend and Malherbe had to see a specialist - which happened yesterday. The specialist advised him that there was nothing seriously wrong - but he should not play for 2 weeks - allowing for the injury to heal totally.
Wild statements by some - without knowing what happened during games are the forte of some of the members on this site. My advice make sure of facts before you write rubbish about your pet hates on the site.
