This World Cup was too soon for the Boks. In spite of what the media told you, we do not have a strong enough pool of players to build a #1 team. The coaching is there, the right structures have been put in place but the pieces are not all there. 
Our much heralded next gen players are being dominated week in and week out by their Oceanian counterparts. Players such as Damian, Steph , Lambie and those props and locks are not delivering. Meyer has always gone for youth ahead of age and experience and has given many fan favourites a clean shot at a starting spot. It just isn't working. Now, in a World Cup year, our front row is looking jaded and beaten by father time... we just don't have the talent to replace them. We are in that stage in our personnel cycle where the old guard are being phased out and we are awaiting those precious few gems to complete the spine of the new team. It's the most vulnerable point for all teams... even New Zealand who are entering that same stage - though they always negotiate that vulnerability with greater foresight and caution. 
Another problem for our rugby is the affect of Super rugby itself. A game based on speed, lack of line integrity, a lower regard for set piece quality and frantic running. The net result is that we are producing a new type of player in response to these demands. A weaker player with greater mobility and better base skills but with no clear position of specialization. Take Damian for instance, is he a wing, a 12, a 13? He doesn't quite fit anywhere. Serfontein is a better bet for 12 and then 13, but has been physically dominated by the big boys. The multidude of generic runners like Reinach, Hougaard et al who are more track runners than rugby players. Our players are becoming less intelligent and selected purely for speedand mobility, and reactive rather than proactive in-game play style.

I did not say the Boks are out of it. I guarantee you that this will be a monumental wakeup call. Well play a more legitimate power game and perform better, though I do question whether we'll be able to be beat the top 3 teams in the tournament. 
Deddy, it's all the truth. And why couldn't Japan believe they could win? They had speed, skills with structure and shape to their game as good as any other team out there. With possession it was always a matter of fact that they could hurt you. You see, you were one of those Saffers who underestimated them, that bought into the nonsense that the Japanese couldn't play rugby and are out of shape losers.

 I have read this one - and realized that the ideas of DF is sound in some respects and totally unrealistic about others.   Lets look at his comments and see what the actual position is:-

First of all his comments on Super Rugby is basically flawed.   Super Rugby is played and based on changes made to the laws of rugby in 2008 to make the game based on scoring of tries and less dependent on penalties - on other words on more thinking and flowing rugby.   All the countries - also the NH teams - in the world has adjusted to that norm - bar South Africa where the system was never introduced by coaches.   The result  was that through the years our competitiveness in Super Rugby and in tests showed a drastic decrease.

This is a very questionable statement.   What is clear is that Meyer had a period of more than 4 years to design a proper player planning structure and wasted it by lack of proper player planning.   The end result is that we have an aged team without any present performance ability.   The case is similar in respect of the other SA Super 15 coaching structures and the SA conference side of the competition became poorer and poorer.   The result was that three of the Super 15 coaches (White, Ludeke and Coetzee) was told to hand in their resignations or be fired.   Meyer's turn is coming soon.
What happened in practice is that Meyer in 2012 decided on a core of about 20 players for the 2015 WC and had to add only about 11 or 12 players to that core.   He remained loyal to that core of players - all hangovers from the disastrous 2011 WC campaign - and kept them going, even when their performances deteriorated to a farcical level.   For the rest - with the exception of Etzebeth, Marcel Coetzee and Le Roux - he never gave other players a chance to settle into the team and gain experience on test level.   Draad elsewhere evaluated Meyer's selections since 2012 and found that there was no real player development programme in place and the result is the present disastrous squad.
It is to be noted that 10 of the players in the debacle on Saturday were in the failed 2011 WC campaign.  None of them performed up to an acceptable level and that has been the case in tests played over the past year - where the performance record of the Springboks were so bad that we slipped down from no 2 to no 5 in the world rankings.
Most observers in the media is clear on the issue - there was no player planning in evidence and there were serious deficiencies in coaching as well.   Whenever Meyer tried to introduce changes such changes were negated because the generation of players he carried on with was unable to adjust to the changes in the game Meyer tied to introduce and made a mess of it.
Then we have the myth in criticizing certain younger players.  The problem here is that DF has a particular support preference for certain players and those players who are a threat to the selection of his favourite players are demonized by him.   His favourites includes failed players like Zane Kirchner, Juan de Jongh, Francois Steyn, Morne Steyn, Willem Alberts and Matfield.   So everybody in opposition to those are never any good and his comments on them should be treated with the disdain it deserves.   For example - his constant campaign against De Allende is farcical and he has no idea how silly it is to state that Frans Steyn is a better center than De Allende.   Another example is the reference to locks and one can accept De Jager is in that category.  De Jager shows what a lock should be like - not like Matfield who is not performing  in Tight 5 play at all, reducing the Tight 5 to a Tight 4.
Be it as it may - the Springbok squad for the 2015 WC campaign is in shambles because of Meyer's poor player planning and his total dependence on reputation selections without any regard to present performance.    If Meyer had a proper player development programme and not total dependence on reputation players and players past their sell-by date we would have been ready for the present WC - we are not ready and the fault lies with the coach - nobody else.
Lets conclude with what James Small said about coaching:-
"Small concluded with a subtle dig at coach Heyneke Meyer, writing: "Congrats Eddie Jones.. Just shows what a proper coach can do!!"

As well as what was one of five talking points after the game on Saturday:-

:"It’s a bit ironic that the most experienced Springbok team in history also suffered the worst result in their history.  Coach Heyneke Meyer has been criticised for his continual backing of older, more experienced players.   He brought Victor Matfield in out of retirement, basically assured Jean de Villiers a starting spot if he could overcome a horrific knee injury and picked players who played very little rugby this year.   Sadly, it appears to have backfired badly on the Bok mentor."

DF,I'll admit I for one, even with PATHETIC MEYER as our coach and the BS selection not only in the WC but for this particular game ever thought I would witness a loss to Japan.A lesson for me I guess, NEVER underestimate your opposition. But I can be forgiven because I'm not the NATIONAL COACH. Everything Meyer puts his name to is BS.I actually think I hate him

If you hate Meyer then you are a sad excuse of a supporter. Meyer has kept the Boks more competitve than Peter with a much weaker pool of players.

 HM made some mistakes.

 

1) Choosing Lambie instead of persevering with Pollard who as far I am concerned has never had a bad game in the Bok jersey. Lambie dithered on Saturday.

 

2) Making the sentimental choice of playing Stephanie, who couldn't crack a spot at lock, on the flank. Steph was non existent in that game.

 

3) Playing Mvovo who now seems to be at snails pace, apart from being non combatative.

 

4) Bringing back Kirchner for Willie....the one player capable of prising open tight defences.

 

5) Putting Coenie on the field...we were up 29 to 22 deep in their half with 6 minutes to go before Coenie gave away a penalty. They scored off the penalty lineout. He was feeble in the scrums as well.

 

6) And I hate to say this, because I called for him to get a chance, relying on Kriel in the WC cauldron when he really has shown every sign of not being up to the defensive task. A player like de Jongh would have scythed down the Japanese runner.

 

7) Introducing no new input in his coaching staff and relying on really poor backline and defensive help. Our defensive structure in that second the last try was woeful. Why was the blind side wing not tracking his opponent?

 

 

Lots of sentimental thinking here....a desire to please a very naive South African fan base, who still hate him. Jake got this ....ignored the fans, and brought home the WC.

 

HM seems to be a very decent man and is clearly very educated in rugby. He needs to solve his 7 errors quickly, discard the sentiment and prepare for total war in the next three games. No more Mr Nice Guy.

This is laughable,  Just watch the two rolling maul tries and see where Du Toit was and what he did - compared to what Matfield did.  Matfield went AWOL from the Tight 5 and was standing around in the backline and not contributing to forward play - so Du Toit had to cover for him in Tight phases of play and also play as a no 7.   No real analysis other than spouting of a BS story by our resident idiot.

OMG - the poorest defending 13 in any SA Super 15 franchise for two years running would have scythed down the Japanese runner.  This must be a case of runaway make-believe by our resident Village Idiot.

 What a load of horse shit. Meyer had more than enough time to identify real talent and invest in them. Instead he chose to invest in a bunch of washed up geriatrics. 
The likes of Kirchner, Mvovo, Jean, Morne, Pienaar, du Preez, Jannie, Brits, Matfield, Louw, Alberts and Schalk are not even third best in their respective positions. 
Therein lies the problem with clueless Meyer. He failed in his primary role of identifying the best players at our disposal. Form counted for nothing. Experience was selected regardless of form or fitness.
The fact that Meyer gives poor direction is secondary to the issue that his squad selection sells us short in every way

 Nothing has changed and Morne should never have been Springbok flyhalf - a one dimensional player clueless about anything bar kicking at goal.   Put him - with his inaccurate boot and aimlessness when kicking out of hand and  - and Pienaar together as a pair of halfbacks and the disaster of a dead backline is evident.  
Morne is just not good enough - never was.   If eh was any good would his club only use him in their starting line-up when their first choice flyhalf is not available?  Just one question - if he is too poor to make the club starting lie-up, what makes him suitable to play for the Springboks?

 OK - with Meyer's aged clowns we are unlikely to make the play-offs - so bring in another clown with less ability and the Springboks csn then we can then get back before the quarterfinals.  The earlier the better - the sooner we will be rid of Meyer and his braaivleis pal Morne.

 Let's state it differently Lambie/Pollard need to win 23 matches in a row to equal the same winning ratio as Morne...
(And what is the world record for wins in a row? So, there is little chance of that happening soon.)

Or Morne needs to lose 23 matches in a row to be as kak as Lambie/Pollard.
(Morne might play a maximum of one or two tests for the Boks - So that is NEVER going to happen)

you are using the stats aa a big lie, or to lie. That stat says nothing about Morne being better or worst than Lambie/Pollard. Completely irrelevant.

I am not responsible for what you understand or don't understand from my post and I am not going to waste my time explaining it to someone who clearly lacks the capacity to understand.

DbDraad: The stats only include the period that Morne was branded as the most pathetic, useless, atrociously poor player that had ever lived on this planet... So I only included the period since his haters became most vocal. I know it is not 100% correct, but the period is a choice made by the haters... So I will continue to use that specific period as reference, whether you/they like it or not!

Lambie has played badly in every test, with about three exceptions at fullback where he was okay. To blame his showing on Pienaar is disgraceful. Is it Pienaars fault Lambie has a slow, short, floaty pass off both hands, that he crabs before passing, that he nevers fixes defenders, has poor sense of alignment and depth, cannot tackle, cannot make decisions? Ruan was far from perfect, but he is the better of the two. 
There is always an excuse for this kid. Lambie is the least natural talented 10 of the past few generation of players. He is at best an average defensive fullback. 
Ono, a player none of you had ever heard of, made made Lambie look like a gutless amateur. Lambie has been outplayed by every opposite 10 in the Meyer era. Let that sink in.

Wrong Coenie was penalized twice... to set up the lineout for the second last Japanese try....and then a second time and yellow carded to set up the match losing sequence.

 

 

With the match in t he balance and six minutes to go he threw himself about with no sense of the situation and made a massive contribution to the loss. He could have been penalized in the srums as well.

Wrong Lambie was indecsive from the moment the pressure was on....missed a routine conversion, kicked a dangerous lateral up and under and passed behind his backline deep inside the 22. None of that, nor his clueless general play  had anything to do with Pienaar.

Wrong I have examined the rucks. In several cases instead of going down to compete for the ball on the ground, which was incumbent on him as a flank, he stood back waiting to counter ruck. He has no flanking instincts. He made less tackles as a flank than Matfield made as a lock, gained 10 metres in 7 runs against the wee Japs and lost the ball once.

 

He did take one good lineout ball but that was more applicable to a lock.

 

As a flank he was more or less a passenger.

Camouflage the error by blaming another player for something else. The jury on Jean is still out....he wasn't great in that game and I never believed he would fully come back from his injury. But he never lost the game on Saturday, Kriel and Coenie did.

 If talking BS Mozart takes the prize.   He cannot help it - because according to him the number 7 has to cover for Matfield in Tight 5 play - since Matfield is incapable of handling that component of the game.   When Du Toit was forced to do just that the BSter blames Du Toit for not doing his job as a flank forward.
He thinks that Alberts is a flank forward and Du Toit is better than Alberts and has proven that - what the he ll is he talking about.
That is why spreading BS is all he is capable of.

 Listen to these idiots banging on about a loss to Japan.....its simple clowns we had 10 thirty year olds and above in our starting side with Mvovo aged 29 as the 11th old fart....had Alberts started as originally selected we would have had 12 geriatrics in the side.
We lost because we had a bunch of washed up has beens in the side. But some of you are too fucking stupid to comprehend this very fact.
The old side let us down as a unit as they are past it and got run off their feet and brains.
