According to the latest reports the walking wounded are as follows:-
Jean de Villiers - broken jaw - out for 4 to 6 weeks
Marcel Coetzee - knee injury - out for circa 6 weeks
Willie le Roux - ankle sprain - out for a week, will be available for the WC
Willem Alberts - Cleared to play this week - he is fatter than ever and guaranteed to fail
Victor Matfield - hamstring to be checked today - guaranteed to fail
Fourie du Preez - knee to be checked today - 50:50 matchfit.failure case - too fat
JP Pietersen - hamstring - not available, question about his rehabilitation
Jannie du Plessis - medial collateral problem - Not available this weekend
Duane Vermeulen - Rehab going well
Francois Louw - no news on rehab
Frans Steyn - has not been assessed due to absence from the camp
The following players have been cleared to play last week already:-
Frans Malherbe, Steven Kitshoff, Pieter-Steph du Toit (medically 100% - need game time
This is crazy - how can we get players who are patently not match-fit to play before the WC unless they had game time before that tournament? Of the above players the following have really had no game time for months:-
Willem Alberts, JP Pietersen, Fourie du Preez, JP Pieteren, Frans Steyn.
They have all been atrocious to average when they did play - so they are effectively a waste of space in the squad - sad to say.
