On Saturday

The Boks tackled at 73%, the ABs at 71%

The Bargies tackled at 85%, the Wallabies at 87%

I can’t recall a test with such low tackling success, the defense on both sides was unprofessional.

Just another miss by our rugby press frothing about Tony ball.

Hell the worst defensive display for the Boks in years was the first Aussie test and we still tackled at 81%…..not Tony ball/ Razor defense.

Moz you just hate the success of Rassie don’t you

Who gives a fuck about the defence - we scored 6 tries and beat the AB’s by a record margin away from home

Yes we all enjoyed that, had our beers, scotches whatever…..so now is the time to be realistic. What really happened to enable that blow out. In the Willemse and Snyman tries it was atrocious defense.

That comes from softening them up for 60min

We squeezed the life out of them.

Willemse is a strong fucker - bit of an in out then brute strength to get over

Atrocious defense….an intercept….the perfect bounce on the open side cross kick (which fell well short of target) …the Snyman/Willemse non defense.

And as I have frequently told you this is a clueless AB team.

Nonsense we squeezed them for 60 and those late defensive lapses would have had fatigue was part of the equation

RG ran a great line and the intercept had nothing to do with defence and everything to do with the skill of Kolbe

During a heated discussion on Sport Nation's "Scotty and Izzy" show, host Scotty Stevenson brought up a startling statistic that underscored the All Blacks' struggles.

"46 missed tackles. Are you joking? That is a village,"

Stevenson exclaimed in disbelief. He continued,

"That many missed tackles in a Test from the All Blacks, I don’t know what’s going on there. How do you even conjure such a statistic? Yikes."

Dagg echoed Stevenson's frustration, pinpointing the missed tackles as a glaring issue. "That’s not a good stat, that’s not All Blacks standards," Dagg criticized. He further analyzed the factors contributing to the defeat, noting that the All Blacks' set-piece struggles and inability to maintain possession compounded their woes. "It’s always going to be a tough night when the set-piece is going backwards, you can’t get any continuity going, you’re constantly on the back foot," he commented.

Defense joined scrummaging as the two factors that killed them. AB teams have always had a way of dealing with us at scrum time, it was baffling to see how poor they were. As Dagg points out, you can’t win tests with a dominated scrum. I schooled you on this before,

You have never schooled me - us dominating them in the scrums as we do all sides along with the physicality we bring in general play fatigues the opposition, which contributes to the lapses in defence

They will have felt it more on the back of two tests whereas our boys were fresher given all the changes we made

Rassie being astute yet again

In the article Dagg explains the effect of a weak scrum:

"It’s always going to be a tough night when the set-piece is going backwards, you can’t get any continuity going, you’re constantly on the back foot," he commented.

Schooled again,

...and yet they were at the top of the world rankings when the match started...so by no means a weak team.

Not statistically….we tackled at 81% in that test, Oz at 88%. Tackling at 71% and 73% is the lowest I have ever seen, so this remains a low point if not the low point defensively. That said NZ’s collapse looked a bit like our debacle against Oz although I never had the same impression of the team giving up.

Moz you really do look for anything negative to talk about.

i know you like generating hype but can’t generate positive hype for a change?

I’m ecstatic about the way we played Chip, couldn’t be more positive. It’s the evolution I have been asking for since we restored our traditional scrumming and defensive strengths.

But I think it had very little to do with Tony ball, much more the players. And I do think that was the worst defensive display in some years by a top team like NZ.

In short I don’t believe in pixie dust, but I fully accept I am in the minority. That said Hooker had a great introduction, Sacha is electric, Esterhozen could be the architect, Snyman intimidates the opposition and Kolbe is the ultimate danger man. Geez that was hard!
