That could possibly be the best thing happening to the Stormers and the best thing for the Sharks would be for John Mitchell to take over the coaching role.

The other rumour is that Matfield wants to coach the Bulls - so a rank disaster can happen in their case.   Bad news all round for the Bulls.

 How will Hasbeeno handle a Kiwi coaching his perennial under-performers??

Plum coaching the Stormers? That poor, poor franchise. Mitchell would in all likelihood be very bad for the Sharks, he is even more staunch as a disciplinarian than Jake. He has a track record of inciting mutiny. So be careful what you wish for. Certainly he is no better than Jake, so it's still not the best thing they could have had, and with a painfully weakened Sharks side? He will have his work cut out or him. Has he ever had to rebuild a team?

 Plumtree is a top class coach and that is a fact.  Because he would not put up with the BS of FAT Fransie he is damned by you.
Victor's intelligence on a coaching level - what a joke.   He is the Bulls attack coach and they failed miserably in attacking play.   I believe Mallett when he said Matfield would be a disaster as a coach of the Bulls.   He is very good in ass-creeping with  Meyer - he is useless as a player and in everything else.

I have been saying he was a fool since 2008 when he was trying to play Frans at 10. He had done nothing with the Sharks.

Nicks views should be taken with a grain of salt. That is the fool who tried to implement the Brumbies' gameplan and destroyed the Boks. Had no answer for improvement in defences at that time. At Italy, played their premier flank at scrumhalf.

Victor is good enough in his understanding of attacking play to have deep discussions with Eddie Jones when forming gameplans. In fact, Eddie Jones was very impressed by Victor and said he was like having a coach on the field. But of course, he can't compensate for Serf and JJ, the worst centre pairing in Super rugby. No centres, no attack. Plain and simple.

 I think it is useless to react to utter idiocy.   Matfield was the attack coach for two years and for two years the attacking play of the Bulls were putrid.   The rest is jargon with no substance at all.

Thanks for the advice. You don't have to be so hard on yourself though.

 The worst by a mile center combination in Super 15 this year was Fransie and JP.   Useless in defense and attack - absolutely useless.   Last year Steyn sabotaged the Sharks backline completely and in 2013 he was so bad that Plumtree said he was no center.   Anybody playing beside him was doomed in both 2013 and 2014.

 Mike, anything more to the Plum rumours than those of a few weeks ago? I for one would be glad if he gets the gig, bat last i heard, he wasn't prepared to sign a 2y deal only. IMO, he should be confident enough to prove his worth in 2 years and giving him anything more than that without performance clauses would be stupid from WP.

There should be performance clauses in any coach contract - but I think WP should be wise about the issue - sign a four year contract - with a review clause after each succeeding year   with a condition that proven failure would be the only norm for terminating the contract.   Both sides needs to be protected against willful dismissal without proper grounds and against under-performance as a result of inadequacies in coaching.
I actually hope that with his recent record at the Irish team and the Hurricanes Plumtree gets the job.   I think Smal's rel;ationship with irish rugby may be the final decider in this case.

 Hope he gets the job too Mike. But a 4 year deal is stretching it a bit. Performance clauses are always subjective and to be avoided if possible...2 year deal with a guaranteed extra 2 years if he makes the finals in the first 2 would be the extent of my generosity.

Big step up from Coetzee. Great to have Plum on board. Its just a pity the top SA coaches arent coaching - the shooting oneself in the foot syndrome at work yet again.
Matfield I can assure you will not coach the bulle. He has flopped so badly that he will be fortunate to get an assitant coaches job where they should confine the unfortunate oak to lineout work. He could at least assess how well the props can lift and how quickly.
It was good to see Mallet putting wee matfiled in his place on TV!! The bulle will I am confident be spared that disaster. Let him go and coach a club side first.
Will Plum put up with quota demands on him etc. He is not used to this apalling approach! Maybe WP have learned their lesson given their playoff debacle?

hope its not true, hurricanes forward coach has improved the hurricanes forwards so much, that even saffa forward packs are struggling to gain parity.

hes smart enough to want a longer contract, modern day rugby is about speed and skill, and after seeing first hand the rugby the kiwis are playing, he knows that he dosent have the skills and technical knowledge (or  any coach in the world for that matter) to take the stormers or any saffa team to another super rugby title.

The Stormers did not struggle against the Hurricanes forwards - t5hey walked over them with speed.   However, that is not the point - I am a Plumtree admirer and I heard he wants to come back to SA.  He will be an excellent coach for the Stormers.

@mikey,

ur right and i should have worded it better.
the stormers didnt struggle against the hurricanes pack, but they didnt dominate them either as u suggested and ur not fooling anyone with the word speed used to describe anything to do with saffa forwards,
point is the hurricanes held their own vs the stormers pack and thats not bad cos everyone knows that the stormers had the best scrum by far in 2015, so kudos to the hurricanes.
luckily for the canes, saffas still dont know how to properly use their backs, hence why the stormers lost,

regarding plumtree, i would be surprised if he wants to go back to SA, better to have success as an assistant, then be a failure as a head coach.
if he couldnt win super rugby with the stars the sharks had, whats he gonna do with the stormers???

i mean, stormers couldnt even make the top 6 on merit, they had to rely on the SARU enforced welfare rule which gave them automatic entry over the more deserving crusaders.
got to say, im not liking this age of entitlement south african rugby are relying on, but as long as the NZ rugby empire continues forward and earns all their kudos, que sera sera,

Despite what is written often enough on this site - SA has attractions that makes it a very nice place to live in.  Cape Town in particular is a top tourist attraction and has an international aura that would not be met in Wellington.  It is a classical historic city which makes every South African calls her the "Mother City".
A job with a major salary package makes it even a better place to live in than most others.   I would not be surprised if the place would be very attractive to Plumtree.
In any event I watched the Hurricanes match and after seeing that match I am afraid that in 7o% of the match the Hurricanes props were in full retreat in scrums.  It only became more even when the Stormers bench props came on - so the myth that the Hurricanes held their own in scrumming is not really a fact.

@mikey,

im a wellington born hurricanes supporter from day 1 and ive had to watch the hurricanes toil and consistently underachieve in super rugby since its inception in 1996, the amount of pain ive had to endure supporting them has been tough, i know u can relate being a sharks and Bok supporter,
the point is, 2015 has been a great year for the hurricanes, the writing was on the wall ever since we got rid of that c0ckhead hammet and got the awesome chris boyd as the hurricanes coach. and thats why i have easily watched every hurricanes match at least 5 teams each, except for that hiccup vs the waratahs and the hiding the crusaders gave us, but every other game ive seen easily 5 times minimum.

i dont recall anything in that game the stormers lost which describes the full retreat u talk about, but i do recall the hurricanes holding their own, especially the savea try which came on the back of a scrum, a scrum under pressure, but still won and netted the canes 5pts.

this comment of urs though,,,

here are the actual scrum facts on the game
scrums own feed
hurricanes awarded 6, won 5 lost 1 83%
stormers awarded 9, won 9 100%

stats dont lie brother mike, hurricanes clearly held their own come scrumtime as they beat the super XV welfare team the not so mighty stormers,

A scrum can still be won wi th the scrum in reverse gear and the way the Hurricanes won their scrums were all in reverse gear.

@mikey,

tru dat brother mike, but for me personally, even if a team manages to make another team back pedal, if they dont win the ball off them, then its indications of a stronger scrum.
dominating the opposition scrum entails winning the ball of their feed and or scoring of their scrums. stormers did this with that penalty try when the hurricanes scrum collapsed, but hurricanes did it also when savea scored after a hurricanes fed scrum,

 Mike, the Stormers lost the canes match due to poor defence and ref blunders early in the match. They could not recover from that. Similar to the 2 matches against the Brumbies, one they could salvage,  not the other. Highlanders match same. The little  guys did well, but slipped a few times.
