Tim Swiel lost to Quins

In news that is unlikely to really surprise anyone, Tim Swiel has opted to join Harlequins full-time from the start of the new European season.

Former Western Province age-group star Swiel was signed by Jake White with much fanfare ahead of the 2014 Super Rugby season, but rather than delivering further on that promise, endured a frustrating ten months in Durban. Beset by injury and unable to nail down a regular starting berth, it was a frustrated young men who left for the UK in October last year to join Quins on a loan basis. The idea was to let him finally get some game time under his belt and build up a head of steam before returning for this year’s Super Rugby campaign.

For Swiel, who is English-qualified, the lure of playing for the country of his birth was always going to be a factor and this, coupled with his immediate “fit” into the Harlequins set up and game plan seem to have signaled the death knell to his Sharks ambitions. Originally slated to return to the Sharks in time for the Super Rugby competition, there has been no sign of Swiel in Durban; most fans jump to conclusions in the absence of information and in this case, I guess we’ve got it pretty much right.

“It is with great excitement that I am committing to Harlequins full time. The decision wasn’t a tricky one due to the fact I had such a great time on my loan spell. The Harlequins set up and supporter base is amazing and I can’t wait to wear the quarters again,” says Swiel on the Premiership Rugby website.

Glad to know that it wasn’t hard for him to leave the Sharks – nor is there any need to thank them for agreeing to release him early from his contract. It’s not clear what Tim will do for his remaining time as a Sharks player – clearly pitching up at practice is not on the immediate agenda.

Stuffed around at the Sharks and now backing a side that showed faith in him - typically useless SA sides who have no clue when it comes to player investment.

We can expect the same from the likes of Pat Howard at WP, Tyler Fisher at the Sharks and Dries Swanepoel at the Bulls......it wont come as a shock to see these three sign up north shortly

Given how bloody useless the Sharks are at present.......it would hardly have taken much to have worked out that Tyler Fisher at 13 might just have been the answer.......but you are to thick to comprehend this basic fact  

Dave no team that has Coetzee and Mohoje as flanks, Reinach and Lambie as half backs and the utterly ordinary Stepfontein as a centre......is my team.

That was more your team than my team, only Victor, Mohoje, Hendricks  and Jean were non starters in your ...er....books. It was more your team than my team that lost.
