This whole haka debate is really not a big deal. We have our Zulu running out with his spear in the home tests. Wallabies get to sing waltzing matilda. All the pacific islands do their haka. This is a professional sport, and all these things add to the atmosphere and the spectacle. Just like the music during breaks in play. Its entertainment people.

To those moaning about the haka, go and buy a drink while they do it if you don't want to watch it. For myself and most others, NZ'ers and otherwise, its just a wee starter before the main meal.

"Not attacking. Just stating a suspicion based on mounting evidence."
Right, so you do have issues with the haka, which contradicts your opening statement where you said you have zero issues.
I think that's the point which Brycy was making which you have now confirmed.

Lol

No problem with the Haka.

Issue is with teams being forced to watch it.

If the French forced us to watch a Rooster dance, or the Irish forced us to watch some line dancing, I would have the same issue. It has nothing to do with the tradition itself.

Is it that hard to understand that I have zero issues with the Haka itself but don't like the idea that nobody has any choice as far as it's delivery prior to tests goes?

You are all just conveniently hiding behind that fact that I supposedly hate the Haka but in reality you know exactly the point I am making and it has nothing to do with whether or not I love or hate the Haka.

Hahaha and still, not one of you are able to conjure anything resembling a valid argument.

Hilarious really.

Quite funny when you all have to gang up to hide your lack of a decent reason to continue getting what you want.

Speaks volumes of your wonderful courage and integrity, no?

Plum if one doesn't like a bi t of low brow comedy one wont wont to waste time with the haka! For me its the absurd faces the wee ab freaks pull that cracks me up. Hahahahahaha

Plum reasoning with kbbs is an impossibility. But there again it can be very funny. The kbbs are actually a hilarious bunch! Long live the kbbs!

Some see the Haka as a mental edge for the All Blacks, some also state it as mental hurdle for the opposition. I'm sorry, but if you've got to test rugby and some blokes dancing and screaming in front of you throws you off your game then you don't belong.
A humorous video I've seen in the past is the evolution of the Haka at rugby games, gone from minimum effort and passion to full squats and tongues out...

The Poms could draw on their colonial traditions ,muskets at 50 paces while some prick steals the turf from under you.Probably still only an outside chance vs ABs anyhow.

Naked butts and woad for the Irish ,the Scots could  do that Braveheart thingy baring their near blue arses at the auld enemy.Wales could use bows or fling leeks at their opposition .

A Zulu Impi might give the Boks a bit of a leg up.the Aussies can " throw another shrimp on the barby" and try to get the opposition on the piss pre game.

Plumpy would probably find Morris Dancing a bit threatening so maybe he should avert his gaze and stick his fingers in his ears.

Yeah yeah WD.

It's nigh on impossible to get you lot to actually debatable the true issue at hand rather than jumping to patriotic defensiveness at the very first hurdle.

Later when I have time, I'll make your argument for you :)

Maybe you should have started your argument like this WD...

No team actually has any right to any special privilege before a sports match. In the unique case of the haka it has become more than just kiwi tradition. It is part of rugby culture now. One would have to weigh up the negativity, if any, as involves the haka against what it does for the game as a  spectacle.

As for whether or not it provides any advantage, it's anyone's guess. It might provide some advantage in terms of momentum but trying to gauge just how much would be quite difficult.

It would be interesting to look at similar situations for which there is data with parallels that could be compared to the mindset opposition are put in by being made to stand an "accept the challenge".

Are there any similar situations anyone can think of? Maybe something like reprimanding an animal and seeing how it responds to commands immediately afterwards. Testing mental acuity in the presence and absence of authority. Evaluating the agreeableness of concert goers watching relatively aggressive punk/rock music. Obviously those are poor examples, but you get my point.

See, titface. Its possible to have a reasonable discussion about something without having to jump on your bloody patriot wagon.

And that's a summary of your problem. Nobody is asking you to defend the haka. Nobody is asking you to betray NZ. You're on a rugby forum that comprises people from different countries. From time to time discussion will inevitably move towards something that involves NZ. How are you at all contributing if all you can do is blindly defend something when nobody is even attacking it?

I've said it here before and it holds especially true for you. The brain responds to disagreement through the same pathways that it uses when being attacked. Most adults are however able to separate the two. There is a clear correlation between intelligence and this ability to separate.

More intelligent adults are able to entertain ideas even though they don't agree with them. It's where progress is born.

The question is...where do you sit on that continuum?

Now, try asking any Saffa on this forum a similar question to the one i posed to you. Almost none of them will jump right on the defensive. And everyone here knows it. And it's got nothing do with lack of national pride.

You'll make up some bull shit about how i'm scheming, manipulative blah blah blah but in reality that's just to hide the fact that you are in no way open to have any discussion about anything that involves anything which might in any way, even for a moment, reflect negatively on NZ.

I never said i don't attack people. I said i don't JUST attack people. See the difference?

Impossible. Intimidating traditional dances for sure but they require physical qualities SA rugby players do not have like light feet, nimbleness, basic coordination.

Terminate rugby in SA, it will be the right thing to do.
