I have been following SBW this year and started off with him as a banker in my Fantasy selections.   However, he has been at best up and down in performances.   He has been good against -


*   the Force and the Cheetahs - two of the weakest teams in Super 15;

*   was poor against the Rebels and the Crusaders ; and

*   bog ordinary against the Stormers where he was outplayed by De Allende.


His positives are -


*   his ability to off-load balls in tackle situations - probably the ebst inside center in the world in that;


*   he is strong and difficult to tackle effectively


His negatives are -


*   his defense is sub-par - he missed way too many tackles to be comfortable with.


On average he makes line breaks against weaker teams/opponents, but shows nothing against stronger trams/opponents.


The problem is that he is frequently not playing - he missed about half of the games since 13 March 2015 when the Chiefs played the Stormers.


My question is - IS HE PLAYING ON REPUTATION AND NOT PUTTING TOO MUCH EFFORT INTO IT IN RETURN?

 No SBW ain't at his best right now. But I think that's a good thing. He is playing to the teams structures and game plan now. Opposed to the past he would just play individually. So I think that is why, he is a more matured player now. He got 36 this week in fantasy, not amazing but solid. De Allende is killing it in fantasy atm.

 Yes, SBW is not lighting the world on fire at the moment. Could be as 3ku1 explains and also I think he has a few niggles. He will light up as an AB.

I made a decision I initially thought was not wise by making De Allende my captain in round 12 and  if the present points are maintained picked up 132 points in the process.   Problem is I may change that one this coming weekend in view of the fact that the Stormers forwards were weak on Saturday and they are coming up against the Brumbies this coming weekend.   May be a low scoring affair, with low points.   That may change with Etzebeth and Kitshoff coming back this weekend.
The Stormers are weak in ball protection and recovery and Poc ock may make a killing in the process.   He was quiet on Saturday, but that may change this coming weekend.   I have a feeling that the Hurricanes are going to make hay and may change to either Savea or try and bring in Barrett and make him my captain.

 Barrett? The hurricanes Ten? He's out for the week lol. James Marshall well most likely be playing ten.

 I am not worried about him - De Allende will fix him in the WC - as he did in the Stormers game. 
 What worries me is his tackle stats - it really is weak in most matches.  He cannot bide his time with that - he may be able to do better in respect of other aspects of the game in major matches - but tackling is a deficiency which is not easily corrected.

 Actually SBW ran clean through De Allende a few times, despite De Allende taking care of him mostly. Nonu well prob be the starting 12 come wc time anyway. Meanwhile Barratt could be out for several weeks worst case scenario. But most likely hopefully its two weeks tops.

CleverMike: sounds like SA will field the strongest team & should be made the favorites in the RWC. According to some our tight five is no good, backs are net ball players, etc. etc.
Whereas the Boks pack is superior & the backs have finally figured out how to pass and catch. 
No pressure on the Boks mind you

I forgot about Barrett's injury on Saturday - so my provisional intention to bring him into my fantasy selections have gone astray.
To be quite frank I think that NZ has superb backline players - but their Tight 5 is questionable.   Retallick  and Whitelock looks good in more open play - but in the Tight 5 situation are not all that good.  Their props are at best average and in some cases poor.    Their loosies - other than McCaw at present - are also of the best around.
I for one think that our backline players are sub-par and not up to the standard of the NZ backline players.   There are some players of quality - but too many gaps.  We need a 13 badly and also a reasonable wing.  The players I rate for the backline are De Allende, Habana and Le Roux - with Kriel showing some real promise.   Pollard started off very well - but has recently gone into a shell and showed nothing much.  
However - team selection in SA is subject to Government Policy on quotas and Meyer will likely bugger up the selection wholesale as well.   So I do not really rate SA in the WC at all.

 Yeah I suffered that Mike. Picked Pollard over Barratt. Simply so I could afford Peranara he scored 13 lol. Mistake. I think one of the big reasons NZ dominate SA of late is selections. We get ours 100% most of the time. You guys Matfield lol, cheers . I still remember last year Matfeild ran the ball up Read hit him and he dropped his lollies lol. I think our tight five is good, we win all the time don't we haha. Retilluck didn't win world player of the year for nothing. I think Sheilds could be a ab bolter, with Thomson. Kriel looking good, I would even throw in Kolbe, like that kid he's brave. I like that kid from the bulls Mathew I think it is. He should partner with Estebeth. Props could be from The Beast to Marcel, to Malhebe, to Koch, to Coenie (although his scrimmaging needs severe improvement). Strauss at hooker for me. But in reality Matfield well pair up with Estebeth.

...not so clever mike...SBW attracts two defenders but SUCKERS he was just the decoy then SNAP Chiefs TRY..got it mate...anytime you need help with understanding the Chiefs game just ask Brycy...


btw , whats the difference between an Aussie ref and an onion,,,

 ..........no one cries when you chop up an Aussie ref ..

Luke sdorry to differ from you about your following statement:-

It bothered me so I looked up SBW's stats for the game:-
Williams0/000/8/113001434/00/010/0
SBW carried the ball 11 times making a gain of 30 meters - which represents an average carry of less than 3 meters.  He in fact beat De Allende once and even that was not very effective.   As per normal his off-loading in that game was very good - for the rest he was very poor especially since he lost ball possession 3 times.
