What a fine game this prop had. If you look at his body position in the scrums the micro second after the ball is fed, he is so low. Then explodes upwards. Right now if you combine his scrumming with his fine general play he looks like the best tighthead in the country.

Some caution is warranted, so often these things go pear shaped. But he is technically such a fine scrummager perhaps we have our future tighthead. From my perspective he is well ahead of Malherbe and van der Merwe.

Likewise Kishoff has finally got his act together at scrum time. He easily dominated Franks today. These two chaps with Strauss in the middle could be formidable.

Agreed. IMO he is the best 3 in the S15. Has bren delivering week after week, the best by some distance.

Koch looks very good.Malherbe needs game time to sharpen up. He is potentially very good as well. Excellent outside the scrum as well.
The way the Stormers pack minced the wee blowhards was impressive. Man did they not truly deser ve a comfortable win!
If Meyer gets things right the Boks could be very good.  I am however losing confidence in Meyer. Just hoping last year was an aberration

Koch has been very good but is not ahead of Malherbe, v/d Merwe, Nyakane and Coenie at 3. I'd say they are all pretty much on par. We have depth at 3.
Kitshoff has always been that good nothing has changed. The only thing that needs to change is just recognition.

More nonsese from ou snapster!! Marcell is looking too plump for my liking. Coenies scrumming is suspect and Trevor is not as good as Koch.
Malherbe has yet to regain form and full fitnress but has real potential.
Hope that brings ou snapster up to speed!

Saf, Koch is kicking ass every game. There is no other 3 even close. He should start for the Boks. Marcell is good, but a bit soft in the head. We can't go wrong with Koch.

The thing that is absolutely clear from the Springbok selection perspective is that koch and a string of other tight-heads are way ahead of Jannie du Plessis and that Beast has been showing so0me signs of life recently - but is not on par with Kitshoff.
However, whether Meyer will wake up to those facts is doubtful.  Chances are he will not and end up with way past their best players.
By the way the issue here relates to the props - but the same can be said of Meyers selections in more than half of the other positions as well - so chances that he would get his selections right must be less than one in a million.

I said Marcell looks plump. He also needs a lot more game time to sharpen up.No snaspter Draad is correct Koch as been the outstanding tighthead this season and Kitshof th e outstanding loosehead AND THE MIGHTY STORMERS THE OUTSTANDING SCRUMMAGING SIDE.

His running style is good as well, where he goes low with shoulders parallel to the ground. He had a few good runs against the Hurricanes
Early days though.... If he is consistently good as to how he is now, why did the Bulls retain a clown like Werner Kruger

 Dave
I have been watching Van der Merwe carefully when he came on from the bench and found that his scrumming was not really up to standard.   He tends to give away penalties and the scrums not being stable at all.   Unfortunately - unless there is a marked improvement in scrumming - Van der Merwe will remain a Bulls bench player in future.

The advantage Koch has on Coenie, Malherbe and Marcelherbe is he that he has proper tighthead technique....like Jannie.

Mike you don't have a clue what you are talking about the penalty was against Mellett you fool. Try wake up it might help.
You watching anyone carefully is a bloody joke.
May I suggest you wear your glasses next week.
So what happened to Koch s tighthead technique against the Highlanders then Moz?
Koch is good but he is no better than Coenie, Marcel, Nyakane and Malherbe.....All quality options at 3 as I have said all along. Add young Wilco Louw as up and coming.

I think that you are trying to cover things by being totally impossible.   Van der Merwe is not a good scrummager - Koch is.  The week when Koch was solid with the Highlanders - was the same week when the scrumming fiasco involving the Cheetahs came to the fore and there is every indication that the Highlanders scrumming was not according to the rule book.
A week later and the same would have happened to the Highlanders as happened in virtually all other matches involving Koch and Kitshoff this year.
Even if Koch had one off match in 6 played he was not as bad as the other tightheads you mentioned that had off performances in virtually every match they played in.   So get real and stop your favouritism of some players.
Sad to say - but I think Van der Merwe is another Werner Kruger in the making.

So the fact that Marcel has been good from day one was great for the Boks and is now playing off the bench after his injury means nothing to an ignorant fool like you. Now all of a sudden he can't scrum.
Fuck you are not only stupid you are a pain in the arse
Stop lying you twat......Koch was poor against the Highlanders in the scrums....he was not solid. Stop lying....much like your lies about Coenie and Marcel...but if you are man enough then provide evidence of the scrums Marcel and Coenie failed in this week.
Actual scrums you liar

OK - I will watch the games again and write down the exact times of scrumming problems in the weekend games involving both Coetzee and Van der Merwe.
Really you are talking BS about Koch been poor i.n the Highlands game.   The scrums were firm and there was one penalty against Koch late in the game just before he was subbed.    Was not clear who was actually at fault in that case because the reffing was a jigsaw puzzle.
However, compared to Koch Coeni was a penalty machine and Van der Merwe a retreating prop.   In 5 games Van der Merwe came from the bench he gave away 4 penalties - playing minimal game time compared to the much longer playing times of C Coenie or Koch.  Coenie played in 6 games giving away 7 penalties.   Koch started off badly - in his first Super 15  game ever he gave away three  penalties - and in the other 7 games he gave away 5 penalties.  Clear indication that he got his act together and is improving.    Are Coenie and van der Merwe improving?   D efinitely not.
By the way I can scroll through the points of Coenie this week in Super 15 Foxsport and found that Coenie got all of five points as against 51 points for Koch.  That includes both  scrumming, ball carries and tackles.   It happened week after week

Koch might have been less dominent agains the HL's, but Marcell did not actually cover himself in glory in the games he played. Look, I like the lad. I know his father and one of his brothers, but he's not there yet. Koch is the best we have ATM....Fact...lol.

My point is that you fools bang on about how fantastic Koch has been in each game, when in fact he was average against the Highlanders.......same applies to any prop playing......they all have their days where they seem to struggle when in fact its not them as individuals but more about the collective, the refs interpretation etc.....all we know is that we have some handy tighthead options in Coenie, Kock, v/d Merwe, Malherbe and Nyakane.....if we had to believe some of you idiots, we would be left believing the cupboard is bare and only Koch stands tall..........bullshit.
Beenkop fuck off and stick to your pathetic bible bashing you worthless racist pig.....tell us you found Jesus again or something like that.....its well worth the laugh.
