Goosen?

Stephanie?

Stepfontein?

I'd say Stephanie now that Mark Andrews is using him to attack Victor.

It has to be Lambie. Though this growing belief that Steph is the key to winning the World Cup is almost as bizarre.

You missed the point - the most hyped are Matfield and Alberts.   Hype is where the players under-perform and then gets written up to high heaven and there is virtually no other cases that can be compared to those two.

For longevity of hype though, Lambie tales a lot of beating.

Just a question please.   I tried to find the thread where you said Lambie was around since 2008.   Lambie was in 2008 -17 years old and still at school.   He played his first games for the Sharks in 2010 at the age of 20 also playing in the Under 20 side in the JWC.    He was first selected for the EOYT in 2010.   Am afraid your calculation is somewhat murky.
Next thing Lambie is twice the flyhalf Morne Steyn ever was and ever will be.

The joke is, this  slow, cautious little man hasn't even been able to shine at 10 in the S15. He has no model for the position....no set of decisions he is comfortable  working with.....of late the tactical kick has been the go to play. It worked off a set piece vs the Poms, mostly because W illie executed perfectly, but subsequently has been a major ball loser.

There is no way on earth Lambie will impose himself at the WC knockouts....he will drag us down.

Now for the ritual howls from the Durban dopes.

Please tell me how you arrived at "twice the player". This will be a laugh because I al ready know the productivity of both players! But do enlighten us Mr.Clever.

Lambie does not destroy winning chances of the Springboks the way Morne did it in the past.  I can think of at least three tests since 2012 where Morne was destructive and at least three where he made determined efforts to lose tests - but did not manage it.   A useless robot if ever there was one.

No Michael, you said twice as much. Twice as much is a definite amount, an amount is something that can be counted and is tangible. Tell me where you arrived at a definite "twice the player", don't give me a list of intangible qualities that are completely subjective. This should be easy, it is after all such a well established fact that you say it's a fact of life.

Allow me to help you out Michael. Morné has the second best points per test average of all South African rugby players. Quite a remarkable achievement given the number of tests and length of playing time; a testament to his long-standing consistent quality. He presently stands at 688 points in 59 tests for an average of 11.66. Lambie has 106 points in 40 tests for an average of 2.65. To give you an idea of how weak Lambies productivity is: Braam, Koen, Greef, Pretorius and Gaffie are ahead of him! You can dissect their tests any way you want, you can look at any segment you want: Morné comes out on top. You cannot even use positional shifts as an excuse! Morné made his debut at 15 when the Lions had us on the ropes and made a last minute try saving tackle over the tryline to save the first test! Not the fist time we've seen such heroics from him. Like it or not, success follows Morné around. He was a key figure in all of those successes.
By contrast Lambie has struggled. He has had more support than any other south African rugby player in the entire history of the game, but nothing! Did he not receive the ropes on two EOYTs? Did he not get given a shot in 2011, the same year that Peter backed out after New Zealand inflicted a record win over the Boks by targeting Lambie the same way England did on the EOYT? He has had enough time. Six years. The more I say it, the more astounded I am it has gone on this long. Six years and I still hear "Give Lambie a chance". It's tantamount to that "Leave Britney alone" video from a few years ago. Sad. Very sad.
But now, onto your little gem. Lambie is twice the player that Morné is. You have in the past said 10 and 20 times better, but I will cut you enough slack and leave you to prove the two. The floor is yours Mr.Clever.

Morne was a flyhalf with one asset - his kicking at goal.  For the rest he was utterly useless and one-dimensional - the robotic flyhalf that is so inaccurate in execution that he loses games for the Springboks.   The worst reader of games and the worst decision-maker we ever had as a flyhalf.
Once the NZ supporters says bring back Morne - we know that they understand what a drawback Morne i9s for SA rugby and how he helps opposing teams by poor play.
The list of titles the village idiot mentioned included happened despite morne Steyn being in the team - rather than due to him being there.   He was Sh!tpoor in the Under 21 final game in Argentina.   He was not involved in any Tri-Nations trophy wins.
The player that is a stand-in for his club and only played when Plisson is injured and you idiots want him in the Springbok team - are you nuts or just plain idiotic?

This is about hype - ie false media reports based on nothing.  The biggest hype report - totally false based on NO facts - this Super 15 in the media was the one on Matfield "schooling" Du Toit - a report you quoted repeatedly on this site.   That is hype and hype of the worse kind.
That false report was HYPE in capital letters and your running around with that gives the Hype Price to Matfield.

You need to drop the conspiracy theories Michael. I assure you this has nothing to do with Du Toit getting on the wrong side of a Rothschild and reaping the whirlwind unfairly in the media. He got schooled plain and simple. It isn't hard to believe either, Victor has been dominating his opposition for twelve years. The only lock to stand toe-to-toe with him was Dan Vickerman. Everyone else has been a pretender. Yiu could cxall it one of those facts of life kind of things, lol.

If one read comments on this site - the media reports and even comments of the AB coaching set-up, the general situation is that they know exactly what to expect from Morne Steyn - totally predictable and robotic.  They do target him - and his defense is atrocious - but you try and play it down.  If you study his test stats you will find that he regularly in tests missed more than 40% of attempted tackles - and the number of tackles attempted indicate that Morne is a target and regarded as a weak link in the team.
If there is one with conspiracy theories on this site it is you.   I have never said that Du Toit was unfairly treated in the media - what I did say that Matfield was hyped up in a totally false report - so what conspiracy theory I am guilty of?   I deal with facts - not fiction and daydreams like you and Mozart specialize in.

Pollard/Lambie and then Morne. Goosen must find his feet again before he can be concidered again. Just BTW, I read an article about his supposed lack of discipline,  the coach was wrong about the French lessons, so he might have been wrong about some other things as well.  He acted like an arshole by attacking Goosen in the media. I really hope they release him from his contract. He will soon be back to his best if he come and join WP. If he can shake his injuries, he can still become the Bok he was hyped to be.  GO GOOSE!

Stepfontein has generally been ignored in this discussion. Sure Goosen and Stephanie have been stupidly hyped.....but Stepfontein? Man has there ever been a more disappointing move into senior rugby. I can't think of one senior game of consequence where Steppie has looked the part....not one. I can't think of one run where he has looked anything but toothless.

I dont see junior rugby in the States, so I was looking forward to see our supposed next great centre....our next Jean our next Danie. Then the Step disappointment....stunning really.

In South Africa it's all about the optics with these youngsters. At least in NZ the veteran players are respected and youngsters are expected to perform. Can you imagine the cries for Conrad Smith to go if he was playing for the Boks.

The lack of a performance culture is killing our rugby.

What is killing SA rugby is a lack of performance culture by geriatrics selected on the basis of reputation - especially those way past their sell-by date .

Draad, I like halfbacks who can send long passes off either hand. It allows the attack to spread out and create gaps between defenders. It's where a player like DA will thrive, so take note of that!

Have to laugh at this - Lambie doesn't give you many options. Morne gives you NO  options.   That is the difference between those two players.

Lambie has a short, floaty pass; stands too deep and likes to crab before passing; has an erratic boot that he struggles to apply pressure with; robs the rest of the backline of time and space on attack and creates pressure by folding on defence. Every time he gets run over he puts the defensive line on the backfoot. He robs you of momentum and to date there has never been a successful attacking backline with him at 10. Many a time he has come on for Morne and we have stuttered, many commentators have remarked on that. However, as I have said before, at fullback he is faultless under the high ball and doesn't make many mistakes, his weak defence doesn't become much of an issue. Why are we even debating this? It's a fact well established over six painful years. He has made as much impact on rugby at 10 as a fly splatting on a car windscreen.

We have had 6 painful years with Morne - nothing could be worse than that. The years since 2012 was particularly painful - who will ever forget the Morne fiascos against the English, Aussies and AB's in 2012, his failures in 2013 against the AB's, his disastrous performances against Wales, Argentina and Australia in 2014.
The stuff rugby nightmares are made of - that is Morne.
