In a thrilling conclusion to this year's Super Rugby Pacific awards, All Blacks centre Quinn Tupaea edged out Timoci Tavatavanawai in a tiebreaker to clinch the prestigious Player of the Year title. Meanwhile, NSW Waratahs' Sid Harvey made a remarkable entry into professional rugby by securing the inaugural Rookie of the Year award.

Tupaea and Tavatavanawai were neck and neck with 43 votes each, but Tupaea’s consistent high performance throughout the season, highlighted by more top votes from the panel, tipped the scales in his favor. His standout moments included scoring eight tries in 14 games and playing a pivotal role in the Chiefs' semi-final victory over the Crusaders. Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley praised Tupaea, stating,

"Quinn Tupaea is a most deserving winner of the Player of the Year Award, having been one of the competition’s most consistent star performers and playing a leading role in the success the Chiefs have enjoyed in 2026."

On the rookie front, Sid Harvey's debut season was nothing short of spectacular. Starting in 11 games for the Waratahs, Harvey's agility and knack for finding the try line saw him score six tries, including a memorable brace against Moana Pasifika. His performance not only dazzled fans but also earned him 27 votes, comfortably ahead of his closest competitor, Lucas Casey of the Highlanders, who garnered 18 votes. Reflecting on Harvey's achievement, Mesley remarked,

"I would also like to congratulate Sid Harvey on becoming the inaugural Rookie of the Year. In his breakthrough season with the Waratahs, we saw the skill and confidence to suggest he has a very bright future ahead of him."

The awards ceremony wasn't just about individual accolades but also a celebration of the spirit and competitive excellence that Super Rugby Pacific embodies. Anton Segner of the Blues and the Wallabies duo of Max Jorgensen and Ben Donaldson also received notable mentions, finishing third and joint-fourth respectively in the Player of the Year category.

This year’s awards not only underscored the individual brilliance of players like Tupaea and Harvey but also highlighted the depth of talent across teams in the Super Rugby Pacific, setting a promising stage for future seasons.
