The unveiling of the Nations Championship Trophy marks a significant milestone in the realm of international rugby, heralding the advent of a tournament poised to redefine the global landscape of the sport. Crafted to be contested by the 12 premier teams of the rugby union, this trophy not only symbolizes a new chapter for rugby but also the aspirations of nations vying for supremacy in the Test arena. Weighing 15kg and standing 67cm tall, the trophy embodies the spirit and ambition of this new competitive era.

"This isn’t just a piece of silverware," the organizers shared in a statement. "It represents the dawn of a new era for rugby, crafted from the ground up to celebrate the game, its players, and its fans. It's a beacon for the sport's future, uniting the leading rugby nations in a quest for global dominance." The trophy’s design features a gold-plated globe at its core, with handles that mimic the lines of latitude and longitude, symbolizing the global and interconnected nature of the tournament and the fierce rivalry between the hemispheres.

"The waiting is almost over, and the anticipation for the inaugural Nations Championship continues to build,"

said SANZAAR CEO Brendan Morris. "This new tournament starts on July 4 and signifies a new era of competition between the northern and southern hemispheres."

The Nations Championship introduces an innovative format, pitting the Six Nations teams from the Northern Hemisphere against the SANZAAR nations, alongside Fiji and Japan from the Southern Hemisphere. Each team will compete in six fixtures against their counterparts from the opposite hemisphere across two segments of the tournament in July and November. The culmination of these matches will be the Nations Championship Finals Weekend, a three-day festival where the top teams from each group clash to crown the inaugural champion.

Tom Harrison, CEO of Six Nations Rugby, emphasized the transformative potential of the tournament: "The Nations Championship will determine the dominant force in global rugby. It is more than just a competition; it is a catalyst for growth, making the sport truly global." He added, "This tournament combines jeopardy, unpredictability, and the thrill of elite competition, ensuring every match is a must-watch event."

With the trophy now revealed, the stage is set for a thrilling showdown starting July 4. The Nations Championship not only promises high-stakes matches but also offers fans around the world comprehensive access through global broadcast partnerships, ensuring they don’t miss a moment of this groundbreaking tournament.
