Just helping you out, Toadie. Lightning seems to strike without cause down under.

Toadies are usually ignorant of the subjects discussed, hence me jumping to your rescue. They play a very specific role. A subservient role ... where all that's required is to nod there heads in agreement to whatever their master says.

You Denny are the perfect Toadie. You mommy beat you into submission from an early age.

You were made to serve your betters. You should embrace your calling.

It suits you perfectly.

Denny you had no problem diagnosing the USA's gun problem from half a planet away.....and now we can't have a view on your pyromaniacs from Chicago?

Here is another answer to your question from an Australian source:

Process

Saluting Williams for donating her prize money to one of the funds set up with respect to the fires in Australia.

What a great message she is sending to all those who have the funds to waste on other items when a country and it's (animal and human) population are suffering and need help big time.

Come on you guys make an effort and help.

Please.

So which fund AJH.....I looked at the Australian Wildlife fund and this is their mission:

Only when the fires clear will we see the full extent of the damage. Whilst we may not have the full picture yet, we already know the WWF Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Fund will deliver:

• Wildlife response - including partnering with wildlife response organisations, communities and scientist nationally for a swift and effective response and recovery at scale.
• Habitat restoration for people and nature - including restoring forests and damaged wildlife habitat, stopping deforestation, including cultivating habitat connectivity, core habitat and Indigenous and rural fire management.
• Future proofing Australia - including driving innovative solutions to help mitigate climate change, driving climate preparedness, species adaptation and long-term wildlife and nature conservation efforts towards securing Australia’s natural resources for people and nature.

.....

So how many conference trips will your donation be funding to find these 'innovative solutions'. What one would like to see is a laser focus on the animals...now.

If you can point me to a fund that does that, I would be delighted to donate. The right charity is probably buried somewhere in the first bullet point....one of  the wildlife response organizations. But apparently there are scams out there.

Mozart

I worked for ten years in the 1960's for the Department of forestry.   The rules as to maintenance of the undergrowth was extensive and strictly enforced,  I cannot remember a single fire problem in all those years on any of the plantations,  Remember some of those were the biggest in the Southern hemisphere - places like Manzengwenja and Weza,

What was also strictly controlled was the dagga they grew under he trees,   A fire would cause huge losses for the local employee entrepreneurs.   When in Amsterdam in 1973 somebody tried to sell me some dagga claiming that it is legal in Amsterdam and the stuff he was trying to sell me was the strongest in the world,   He claimed I came from Weza and he could not understand why I burst out laughing,     Believe me I did not buy,

What I am driving at is that the trees itself is not the problem for starting fires in afforested  areas - it is the undergrowth,   If maintenance of that is not managed properly the disaster is to be expected,

From what I understand in respect of the Californmia area - no maintenance has been done  and that is for me a real problem,   If the same is the case in Australia they musta admit it and do something about it.

Now the other story - lightning can strike trees and cause fires - it is toretially possible - but they would be contained easily if the undergrowth is properly managed.  .

Moz

In a few minutes time I'll be preparing myself for an early morning flight to Melbourne where I'll be celebrating a life long friend's birthday. I'm telling you this before you start accusing me of "subterfuge" or before you think I'm ignoring your last post. By the time I get back the debate would be a wee bit dated and although I have a response I'm not going to bother.

It's been raining in Sydney and in parts of Oz affected by the fires, not widespread enough to cover all the affected areas but it's welcome relief for thousands of my desperate countryman. I'm tempted to strip naked and dance down the street. That my friend is the important thing to me right now.....we are experiencing temporary relief.

Salagazi!

Enjoy your trip Denny, sounds like a great occasion.....and we are all pleased nature has provided some relief. The Aussies are a brave, practical people, they will find solutions, Climate Change. or no Climate Change.

I walk occasionally in the very scenic Newlands forest. There are huge trees that have fallen down and just left to rot.

You can also see the charcoaled remains of fires lit in the ravine by some loons .

It's a potential tinder box.

This fire is a big wake up call for the Ozzies.

Kangaroo Island in South Australia

https://youtu.be/1S3eCgArsos

I have a lad in the forces in Adelaide...a great boy.

I spoke to him 2 days ago on skype.

It's too ghastly to describe...animals suffered painful deaths and poor creatures partly burnt.

Get sick in the guts from seeing this...very disturbing.

Thank goodness he's ok so far.

Mozart, you are correct about folks skimming off the top of relief / aid funds.

So after speaking to an old friend in Brisbane, we made a donation to hopefully help animals in distress.

The fund we donated to is as follows:

pawsivityservicedogs.com

Just hope and pray that the monies do go to the intended aid of the animals.

Let us pray for the people of Australia and may the grace of God be with them in their hour of need.
