Yin and Yang....If the economy pushes too far right (e.g. making the richest 3% richer), it will inevitably push more people further left in the economy.

Many of the "centrist" Democrats are shareholders, so their economic interests are aligned with the far right. Who cares if their social ideology leans left? It is the economy that really counts.

Democrats need to do a clear-out of their lobbyist politicians with some new meat. If a Muslim not even born in America can win New York, so can people born in America- with ease. They can take the independent vote with ease.

The Big Tech Oligarchs, like Bill Gates, are often on the left wing on social issues, but far right on economic issues (e.g. less competition and monopolies to boost shareholder value).

Even if the richest 1% of taxpayers leave in droves, their business operations with New York are still taxable. The stock market pundits will always want to live in New York

Yes well, that's repeating what your master said. And yes we know he's never wrong...never!

Why would they leave if the intent is to provide them with a better financial existence.

When you hear someone aligned to Trumpism or just American conservatism in general accuse someone of being either a socialist or a communist you can assume with 99% certainty that person doesn't actually know what either or those two terms mean.

New York City is a complicated place….and people are mobile. If this latest Mahdi increases taxes radically it will backfire. This article documents the city’s reliance on the wealthy and points out how mobile they are. An interesting read

Americans voted Trump for several reasons, one of those was the belief that he'd have a better handle on the economy.

What happened?

Strange then that Donnie is suffering a 63% disapproval rating, proof thereof showed itself in the latest elections.

There's a real possibility that if the economy stays unchanged Americans will flip to the leaderless Democrats.

The S&P would increase with anyone running America. The way these companies have started to invest in each other, with a whole range of stock buy-backs and other shenanigans, is pushing up the share value.

A bubble perhaps, but America is being carried by Big Tech.

LOL, nice attempt at face saving trying to pretend it's US politics that is preventing him from implementing communist policies rather than just come out and admit you were mindlessly parroting MAGA nonsense, that Mamdani is not a communist and you don't know what an actual communist is.

@Draad... No...

Based on the most recent data, the top 1% in New York are taxed at an average effective rate of approximately 27.3% in 2023, which enables them to contribute around 52.8% of the state’s total income tax revenue.?

So basically it would go from 27.3% 29.3%.

Breakdown of the user's specific question:

  1. What percentage are the 1% taxed at?
  2. The top 1% in New York pay an average effective tax rate of about 27.3% on their income.?
  3. This effective rate includes all types of income, such as wages, capital gains, dividends, and interest, after deductions and credits, not just headline or statutory rates.
  4. To contribute 50% of the overall tax contribution
  5. The top 1% pay roughly 53% of New York’s total income tax revenue, based on current data, which aligns with their effective tax rate. Their high income levels and the progressive structure of New York’s income tax system enable this disproportionate contribution.?

Additional context on rates and income:

  1. The effective tax rate of around 27.3% encompasses both headline statutory rates and deductions, with capital gains included in their overall income but taxed at the same statutory rates.
  2. Federal tax rates on capital gains are often lower, potentially reducing their overall tax burden, but at the state level, capital gains are taxed as ordinary income, sustaining the high effective rate for top earners.?

In conclusion, the top 1% in New York are typically taxed at an effective rate of about 27.3%, which allows them to contribute roughly 53% of the total personal income tax revenue in the state, reflecting the progressive nature of New York’s income tax system.?

More like 36%…..Federal 23%/ State 8%/ Property 5%. Compare that to the option of setting up permanent residence in Florida which eliminates State income tax. And if de Santis’ proposal for no property taxes on homesteads ( primary homes) becomes reality that could rise to 13%. Add Mamdani’s 2% and moving to Florida may save 15%.

But the real hurdle is the proposed rise in corporate tax rates of 4% for companies based in NY. Over time that will really hurt the city. NY’s competitors are trying to find ways to attract wealthy people and companies, under Mamdani NY is set to do it’s best to encourage them to go.

It’s pretty simple and bat crazy to quote Blob.

If Newyork produces a lot of the brains, then Florida is just a tax haven stealing New York taxes?

Most (all) Red states promote low taxes, but their system is easily beaten by the likes of NY, California and other Democratic strongholds.

Republicans want to end the Department of Education and replace it with local state-run replacements.

Can the Republicans be relied on to fund the education of future generations in their own states?

Ken Griffin who runs the second ranked Hedge Fund, Citadel, moved it from Chicago to Miami….because he couldn’t get any concessions from Pritzker and co. A huge loss. You don’t have to be in one place anymore and education takes place all over the country. New York’s universities aren’t that highly ranked for advanced business education.

It is both average IQ and education. People from many of the Democratic strongholds just seem smarter- regardless of education beyond school..

While some estimates have the blue states averaging 10% higher in IQ, than red states.

The Democrats seem smarter than 10% when comparing them with the red forsaken states.

Texas's main cities have more blue-minded people, and Florida is more of a purple state, now a tax evasion centre to undercut the states with brains.

In the context of American politics socialism is a dirty word and often it's deliberately confused with communism.

In Europe it's not and socialist policies labelled as radical in the US are just long standing norms in Europe. Even if the governments in Europe tend not to be socialist in their overall ideology many do implement certain socialist policies particularly around health care.

When it comes to healthcare typically European healthcare systems outperform the US and cost significantly less.
