...What a movie and what a great song!
A thought provoking movie with good photographic effect and sound...the final scene is an example.
Although I like Brad Pitt's acting and have seen most of his films if not all except the most very recent I did not do anything for me...did not float my boat as they say.
It's a type of film that's not good on the nerve's and you cannot really relax, also it's a bit silly and exaggerated, not science fiction by any means but a film really in another world.
It's amazing though you get some insight into people (ie by asking them of taste's such as movies and songs). It indicates quite a lot, I can understand why you like it.
Yes Cloudy indeed we are on the same page more or less.
I think we relate to scenes if we can relate to them, feel the same emotions and identify with similar situation through the university of life...
Out of Africa is very special to me
Legends of the Fall
2 special extra scenes from Out of Africa
He was not mine and Leaving Africa...one of the very best movies...Redford and Streep a perfect match.
Never watched Fight club but I agree on The Pixies where is my mind music doesn't get any better than that for me.
If the movie is as good as the music I might have missed something here
Indeed Cloudy...they don't make them like that anymore.
Sader
You need to see that movie.
Cloudy, relying on Hollywood for movies is like eating only at Macdonalds.
Trying watching any of Javier Bardem's Spanish films. I've yet to see a bad one.
Javier Bardem's role of Anton Chigurh in the movie No Country For Old Men has to be one of the most chilling and believable acting performances I've ever seen and fully deserving of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar he received for it.
Cloudy, glad to see Shawshank got a mention on your list. Definitely one of my top movies of all time. Last of the Mohicans maybe not quite up there but it did have one of the best endings of any movie. That whole final scene going up the mountain in slow motion set to that music was brilliant.
My top dozen or so movies (in no particular order):
Shawshank Redemption
The Big Lebowski
Pulp Fiction
Snatch
Love Actually
Inception
Fargo
Reservoir Dogs
The Hateful Eight
True Romance
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
American Beauty
About Time
The Usual Suspects
All the LOTR movies (not the Hobbit movies though, they were awful)
I'm sure I've left off some classics. That's just off the top of my head. Will update as I remember more.
Edit:
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Silence of the Lambs
Green Book
Memento
Full Metal Jacket
Million Dollar Baby
Unforgiven
Some good movies all round...
I have a soft spot for the original Highlander (great soundtrack)...and Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind and LA Confidential not half shabby choices either.
The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite Star W ars movie.
Gawd this is awfully hard...damn you Seb,,,,,,but forced to choose...
The Graduate with Simon and Garfunkel lyrics followed by
The Sting .... I loved Paul Newman
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid...
but then there's so much more
also enjoyed Hoffman in Little Big Man and Midnight Cowboy
Oldboy is a other favorite of mine.
A revenge story of note. Not the Hollywood remake but rather the Korean original.
A Scanner Darkly is probably R Downey Jr's best best performance.
And more recently, while I despise comic book films and Joaquin Phoenix, The Joker was an instant classic.
Barney's Way is probably my favorite all time movie.
The list can be endless, I know, too many but I was referring to those very special one's that strike you deep in the heart....people usually like to identify something in them that they personally can relate to...we are all different thankfully. Science fiction and fantasy is a big turn off for me...a movie must be real life with meaning. Not something twisted and obscure.
In that case "The Graduate" typically 60's supported by 60's music resonates with me
"What's a matter my dear? Have I not loved you enough today?"
This haunting line from Barney's Way is said by Barney to his ex wife while they are at lunch together.
Barney is suffering from early onset Alzheimer's and does not know/remember that they've been divorced for many years.
She has lunch with him every so often in order to keep tabs on his condition.
A very sad and memorable warning to treasure what you have.
No line from a movie has stuck with me more persistently.
Hence, that's my pick.
What's more embarrassing is that I have to Google the name of the movie every time I want to talk about it.
No shit, I have a mental block with that name.
For some reason, I keep thinking it's called Brian's Way, Ben's Way...every name with a "B" but I can never remember the actual name.
Ask me six months from now and it'll be the same story.
Still, no line from any movie has stayed with me as consistently.
Rooi, if you like Barbem then there is a movie, set in South America, which you may enjoy...The Dancer Upstairs. It's pretty old now but also one of those that you get up from and struggle to shake off for a few days after. The Sea Inside is another good performance from him. Ages of Lulu is pretty shocking but quite good.
Here's Downey in a scanner darkly...What a fun cast that movie had...
A film that combines sadness with humour which I can relate to Ruckers Forum is "One Cuckoo flew over the rest"
Ever time I watch it, I think of Ruckers Forum, starring Sharkbok, Rooinek, Plum, Beeno, Trump and Biden. Only fantasy movie I find entertaining.
Ah, I forgot Saffex but he seldom stars in The Trumpet series nowadays but in rugby section with him and Organhuffer..
I don't know why?
Ah yes Cloudy as nurse Ratchet.

No it's not you Cloudy, off couse not I'm just joking obviously.
The reason I relate this to Ruckus Forum is very simple...Issues raised, usually start moderately then gain in momentum until they climax in utter chaos.
No, I'm that tall lunatic,"I'm Tired " Bancini who usually skirts the edge of the group and does not get involved until the "noise" level disturbs him and intervenes or maybe Chief who plays dumb and fools the rest. HAHA.
I'm definitely not Billy...cannot place him.
This is more or less how I see it, discarding size and statue of the characters.
Charley Cheswick...Denny
Taper is Rooinek.
Dale Harding is DA
Martini ...Cannot place
Turkie ...cannot place
Billy Bibbit ...Can't place.
Randal ...Plum
Funniest scene...

You are definitely Taper and Dale Harding is DA. Spot on.
Well come on smart Alec...who does Billy Bibbit's character fit on this forum?
I think you misunderstood what was said here.
Hahaha
There appears a risk of many a true word said in jest might become a reality Hahaha
Oh dear, I hear the rumble of thunder in the distance, we might be in for a storm......Hahaha
"The reason I relate this to Ruckus Forum is very simple...Issues raised, usually start moderately then gain in momentum until they climax in utter chaos. "
Hahahahahaha.
Super duper WHOOSH!!!! Rudeneck.
Conclusion
Rooi remains an angry little wanker that can't carry on normal conversation unless he gets to look down on someone.
Again, insecurity topped up with a double dose of chip on the shoulder.
At some point you have to realise what a complete asshole you are, guy.
Perhaps you have. Maybe you even attempted to remedy it at some point. My guess is that the assholeness was to ingrained and instead of toning it down you just decided to lean into it further.
I really can't understand how someone can get so screwed up.
The trouble is when you research this topic about, you'll always find another one.
If you don't like this one...then all I can say, I pity you and you have no soul.
A musical genius and De Niro's best...Irons was good too

Draad,
Quite easy. There are likely things that he feels massively insecure about.
The Untouchables...I loved the way they nailed CC's hero ...Al Capone for tax evasion by switching a corrupted and bought jury. Really Kevin Costner's best movie and the late Sean Connery...De Niro made a good Scareface.
Come to think of it...they could never nail him on the many murders he ordered and committed himself....Corrupt Judges, Juries and Police Force.
That was 90 years ago...I don't think the Judical system is any better in the USA today...power can do anything there.
I preferred De Niro's acting when he was young...he's overboard with a foul mouth now...The Deer Hunter...a moving and exciting movie in which a young Meryl Streep and Christopher Walken also were good.

Prizzi’s Honour…an old 1985 film which is rated as one of Jack Nicholson’s top performances.
It is a dark comedy with hilarious scenes.
But William Hickey steals the show as the Pariarch Head of a Mafia family.
To me it is the most typical of all Godfathers…a brilliant performance.
A film that not many of the younger posters have seen. You can surprisingly strea m it on you tube free, at least in South Africa.
Here’s a snippet from the movie.
