Here are the Bok centre defence stats from the start of last year:
Wales 13/16 81%
Wales 19/22 86%
Argie 1/3 33%
Argie 10/11 91%
Oz 30/32 94%
NZ 28/34 82%
Oz 20/24 83%
NZ 12/18 67%
Ire 9/11 82%
Eng 12/17 71%
Italy 11/14 79%
Wales 9/10 90%
Oz 21/28 75%
NZ 14/20 70%
Fourteen games in all.....the aggregate numbers are 209 tackles made in 260 attempts. That averages at just over 80%.
For the de Allende/Kriel combination it's 35 out of 48 tackles for an average of just under 73%.
For de Allende at centre its 36 out of 51 tackles for an average of just under 71%. Yes he was the centre who tackled 0/2 against the Bargies setting up the 33% lowest number.
So of the five lowest tackle scoring tests 33%, 67%, 70%, 71%, 75%....De Allende was involved in three.....and he has played only three tests as a centre!
And it's not academic, the loss against Oz came from a missed de Allende tackle on Kuridrani coming from poor positioning and the Coles try today which certainly killed our momentum, came from a poor read by Kriel. Both mistakes were technical.
These guys have been very effective on attack and very vulnerable on defence. I am more hopeful that they can get over their issues. Neither is as feeble in contact as players like JJ and Jordaan. But technically on defence they are nowhere vs a combination like Fury and de Villiers. No player is acting as defensive captain....the lines aren't brought up, resources aren't moved about, forwards aren' t protected.
Time is short....this poor defence has cost us the RC it could cost us the RWC if not fixed.
