Backline only has assured tackles at 10, 11, 14. And when I say assured I don't mean the back rubs ala JJ that you approved, or the anklet of Lambie or Damian, but head on knock-you-back-in-contact domination . I see Wales changed their outside centre, that could work in our favour, but so far the Welsh have an enormous advantage in the backs. The forwards? So what? Can the scrum get going? We've featured heavier packs than this that got smashed. Remember the jumbo pack of 2001? Technique and strength, strength which does not comes from weight! And what of acceleration? The Welsh have strength but also explosiveness off the mark. Weight becomes a non factor when it isn't going forward. The Welsh explosiveness can generate more momentum, especially if we don't front up physically.

Bullshit....there have been no issues with our defence at centre in the last 3 games and our scrum has been massive without lightweight Vic in the side.
We have physically bullied Samoa, USA and Scotland

Well lets have a look then
15. Willie vs Anscombe.......not even close.......man vs boy14. JP vs North....both good players, but on current form JP takes it13. Kriel vs Morgan......Morgan who.....Kriel will make a fool of Morgan12. de Allende vs Roberts......both good players, but Roberts has done nothing of note for some time, DA is far, far more productive with ball in hand.....he walks it.11. Habana vs Cuthbert....both good players but on current form Habana takes it with ease.10. Pollard vs Biggar......Pollard is a far superior player with ball in hand, Biggar has the edge with his goal kicking.....Pollard walks it9. du Preez vs Davies.......nothing in it......both average.....du Preez's brain gives him the edge1. Beast vs Jenkins......both good players but old man Jenkins is a hasbeen.......Beast walks it2. Bismark vs Baldwin.....no contest....another man vs boy3. Malherbe vs Lee......little Lee is the best of an average bunch at 3 for Wales, Malherbe is far better4. Etzebeth vs Charteris......Charteris is handy.....but Etzebeth is on another planet5. Lood vs Alun Wyn Jones......both good players but Lood is the best lock in the WC at present....so its his6. Louw vs Warburton....Louw is average, Warburton is class, he walks it7. Schalk vs Lydiate.....both good players but on current form Schalk sneaks it8. Vermeulen vs Faletau......both good players but Vermeulen is one of the best in the game....its his
One or two close calls but the only Welshman I would swap for one of ours is Warburton for average Louw......the other close call is North on the wing.

You are really never looking at games objectively - whenever you come up with backline play - you go for De Allende and Lambie.   You deny the fact that Morne buggered up badly by his far more tackle missed than those 2.  You also missed out of the strong tackles often made by De Allende and his role in possession turnovers at breakdowns.
Your accounts are so warped - it is unbelievable

What about the 2011 WC disaster - 78% possession - 90% of which as buggered up by the Springboks,

Damian has affected no turnovers in the tackle! Though he did win a couple of turnovers against the USA second team. However, when it was me in the Super XV saying that Damian and de Jongh were operating well at the breakdown you attacked me! Denying that it happened because you perceived that as an attack on Damian. How the tide has turned, and just when you think you got one over me we find I beat you to the punch closer to two years ago. Hilarious!

These weights are in your brain Saffex. I watched the weights on TV and Eztebeth is around 125kg. Actually he had a big terd earlier-  and the most recent reports have him weighing 124.7 kg

I also laughed at that, I have seen what a 130+ kilo man looks like and it's a lot bigger than any rugby player! Even a four kilo difference is a big step up. But 135kg is extreme. I think Saffex is so used to obsessing over weight that he us desensitized to them.

Gotta love the meatheads. You see them in the gym doing exercises with the most horrendous form but they are like a swollen elephant buttock. Totally not jacked out of their mind. Then comes all the problems later on from anabolic misuse or overuse, especially when they take it young.

This is also a no-no.  I prefer players who perform irrespective of the weight factor.  I think that the turnovers I really noted of De Allende was in fact in the Scottish test - I did not in particular note that in the USA test - but then the latter team had very little ball possession.

Damians key asset will be mobility. Can he make that count? Will he have the time and space? Saffers are drastically under estimating the Welsh speed, size and power. Like I say the Welsh 13 has changed, that may help the team. The one that faced Australia was outstanding cutting out the Aussie wide game.

Ou S napster is getting carried away. He tends to overestimate lock weights. Wee matfiled of 106- 108 kg fame became 115 kg!! I kid you not.Now he is saying Even is 135 kg. Here of course he has more justification given Ebens enormous strength. However yet again I must correct snapster. The Stormers website give Eben at 123 kg and that looks right to me.

The big question really is can the wee Welsh hold this powerful Bok pack? Can they hold the mecurial backline. Its not can we match the Welsh its can they match us.In other words can the keep the score belwo 50. Bwahhahahahahaha
Take courage Foxie and others of feeble strength. The MIGHTY BOKs will prevail! Also remember ou rooitwit is supporting t he Welsh so they will be jinxed!!!

The ratio of weight/mobility/dexterity/skills must be considered.
I rely on Mozart to put this brilliant insight into a mathematical formula but what is states is weight is not everything & if not proportionate to the other elements is a detriment to performance.

JW best leave such complex matters to the few who can deal with them!
I would have liked a flyer like Kriel either starting or at the least on the bench.Kriel is better than Hooper for example.
Other than that not a bad pack at all. The best in the comp I would think.

The days og thinking of playing wee de jongh or a kolbe or a senatla look to be gone. You need power AND pace not either or.The oaks must understand taht to compete at the top level you need to have it all with no glaring weakness.

Small backs may as well stay at home and watch the big boys play. I know the small oaks here will have a fit but right now scrummie is about the only position open for them. hahahahhahahahaahhaha
Apart fro that you want your backs at least at 95 kg and most of them at 100 plus. One smaller back like Willie (93 kg) given his brilliance is fine. Meyer has got it right.
Its fundamental the oaks understand this as it would help eliminate many flights of fancy. Oaks calling for poor wee Kolbe at 15' Aplon etc. Calling for players like this to play for the Boks shows no appreciation of the games fundamentals

Beeno: one could argue that the simplicity you often exhibit is not helpful in dealing with higher-level rugby analysis.
Mozart, please refrain from festering your relationship with CleverMike & refine the formula below:

Evolution of weight/performance formula*:
Weight/performance
Where performance = (deterity*mobility/skills-(hampstering & tractoring) ).
* Formula to be refined by Mozart & patented by CleverMike for Ruckers forum.

NB, please ignore the non-nonsensical ramblings of this bloke:We expect a coherent thought soon as his lonely wee brain cell has been activated

Desert Fox, using this formula (still to be refined by Mozart) results so far are:
1.  de Allande:  weight is good (think ankles & wrists are a negative) 5 out of 10 as effective forward progress is also limited.2.  Lood: 6 out of 10 (weight is good, effective forward progress good, hamster cheeks are a negative).3. Matfield: 5 out of 10 (weight a joke, ball skills a +, entertainment value a +)4. Etzabeth: 6 out of 10 (weight a +, performance scores related to dexterity & skills + propensity for yellow card brain explosions a -)5. Bismarck: 5 out of 10 (weight for hooker +; performance scores related to dexterity & skills a +; propensity for yellow card brain explosions a -).
Who could argue with these results?
Posters , please add your assessments & I will compile the results in a table in due time.

All Blacks total weight for the starting pack is 903 kgs (using stats on All Blacks.com). So ABs are banking on skill, speed, mobility, etc. rather than just picking the fattest bloke they can find
Name Weight Retallick  120 Dane Coles 109 Jerome Kaino 105 Kieran Read 111 Owen Franks 119 Richie McCaw 107 Samuel Whitelock 116 Wyatt Crockett 116 Total 903
Would be interesting to see the stats for the French pack.

You will see from a post of mine a few weeks back that in an interview with Etzebeth here at the WC, he said he was weighing 135kg......one only needs to look at him to realise its a done deal that he has a good 10kg on Lood who weighs 125kg.

Etzebeth is a monster
