He sounds the same every year no matter what happens. You can find quotes from 2013 where the Boks continued a run of only two losses in 24 tests and the same unimaginative, turgid nonsense supported by long lists of players who generally aren't on the scene today. I think he likes to be negative, addicted to whining.

....and secondly I conceded I was wrong about him."
Wow Bleskop!......Finally an admission, there is hope, I trust it's the start of more to follow.

Backline is worth a shot. Kriel has aliscence to raom and cause chaos.Missing backline player is Faf. Here we have the most dynamic scrummie around not even getting a shot. All eyes will be on jean. Hope he comes through.
Great to see kock getting a chance but where is the red head.Kolisi is a waste of space. A quota pick.

Two poor defenders. Damian can't tackle and Jean has always struggled at 13, both on attack and defence. The entire backline is compromised. Do you trust a player who conceded two tries to Australia, who was bamboozled in every defensive situation, who was to incapable of exerting himself on an All Black side who had an uncharacteristically poor game, being dominated at the breakdown? What makes you have so much faith in him? The media? Surely it can't ne anything on the field, because there is nothing to be found. I know owt hat very well.

DF, are you mad? This is a very good back line, what would you have done? Left De Allende and the bench and had Jean at 12 and Kriel at 13, and have JP on the wing? I think THAT is a stupid option!

I think playing a player who has never coped with 13 at 13 after a lengthy layoff at test level against a potentially very physical team with a player cannot tackle inside him is suicide, suicide with a capital S, or just good old hirikiri. Whichever you prefer. And then to play the standout centre of the test season out of position on the wing. Pointless. Not to mention demoralizing for the poor chap who has done nothing to be stuffed around for the sake of a flub at 12 and a very big gamble in his position! I would have tried Jean at 12 and put Damian on the wing where he belongs. Then if Jean fails it's on equal footing with what Damian would have done anyway.

DF doesn't know his arse from his elbow.

Never has.

The center pair should have been left as is with Jean coming in at 14 ... if at all.

I on the other hand would not have played Jean at all.

CC, I get where you are coming from with Jean, but we need an established captain, because lord forbid they are forced to bring in Matfield to fill that role! Schalk also did not cover himself in glory if you look at the whole uncontested scrum debacle, so Jean needs to play. Jean needs to be at centre because he does not have the pace required of a winger, and De Allende, despite DF's ramblings, has been excellent at 12, so that sort of sums things up. I would also prefer Kriel at 13, but rather have him on wing than warming the bench.
DF, De Allende may have some questions marks over his defense, but he has still been the form center this year. He is an attacking weapon, and you really are prejudiced against him for no real reason. Also, I want to make it clear that he has question marks over his defense, I would not call it a weakness.

Valid point Blue, however is seems we're going back to the John Smit era where the 4th best hooker in the country was selected for his captaincy and not for what he produces on the field.

I have an issue with that.

Schalk isn't the only one to blame. Meyer should have stood up and said something.

There are other options for capt. Strauss, Lambie, Louw, Pollard, Whiteley and Schalk but to mention a few .

Select the best player in each position and from them nominate a capt to unite them.

The days of Jean are over. Time to move on now.

I do not think that Meyer could be without a captain and he was in a jam.  He has painted himself into a corner with the choice being between De Villiers and Matfield.
Matfield at present is pathetic and his contribution to Tight 5 play is non-existent.  He is not at all sure of a starting berth in the team at all - he should not even be on the bench - and I think the widespread criticism by ex-players of Matfield got to Meyer.  So the Matfield as captain scenario is a dead end and that is a fact as well.
De Villiers is therefore Meyer's sole option as a captain.  He has to find a place for him in the center position even if his performance is less effective than the De Allende - Kriel combination.  The only real option is to play De Villiers at 13 and hopes he comes off.  I say hope - because the alternative captain (Matfield) has no hope of coming off at all.

You may be right, Mike!

Meyer did have ample opportunities to blood young talent and with it possible capts.

He didn't.

I guess it's a little too late now to select another other than Jean De Villiers.

I hope you are right regarding Matfield and Meyers slight fall out. Having Matfield no where near the Boks would be cause to celebrate.

Ah Moz stop speaking through your arse. CJ was far better than BJ and for that reason played far more tests than useless little BJ.

We have to work with the current players if we are going to make a call on my predictions......hardly going to work with the older players is it.......I made calls on Kirchner, JP, Habana, Fourie, Jean, Lambie, Pienaar, du Preez, Beast, Steenkamp, Bismark, Strauss, Jannie, Bakkies, Matfield, Flip, Smith, Spies, Schalk, Brussouw, Vermeulen.

Slow on Pollard.....oh is that right....funny that for I made the call on him as an 18 year old playing for the Baby Boks.....I said Swiel was very good, said nothing about his pecking order. Goosen was very good.....I cant help it if useless Meyer no longer has him as part of his plans because he is playing in France.

I got Etzebeth before you even knew who he was, same applies to Jessie Kriel, I made the call on him in his first year for the Baby Boks - FACT. It was me who said he should be tried at centre for that is where he was so good for the Baby Boks.

I made the call on de Allende in his first season of top flight rugby. Made the call on Serfontien prior to him even playing for the Baby Boks.

Marcel is a class tighthead, Malherbe was not cracked by the Oz scrum, he was better than Jannie in that test, Heinke was the prop that was cracked - wake up man.

So now all of a sudden Arno is useless....based on what exactly.....how pathetic a call that is.

Coetzee continues to embarrass you with your journeyman calls - sums how wrong you get things

Your call on Faf sums you up to, you are about as astute with your calls as Meyer is....hence where he stands and why I laugh at you. Faf not test quality.......what a joke.

Kolisi pathetic.....take it you missed this S15 then......about as accurate as your Arno and Coetzee calls.

The consensus over the years is that I know my players and pick them up early......its been mooted many a time on this board and other boards.

Same can be said moving forward....look out for Jason Jenkins, Hanro Liebenberg and RG Snyman.....players you don't have a clue about.....one you might know a little about is Thomas du Toit.

I know a good player when I see one......a few let me down like Werner Kruger, but in general I get them spot on. The fact our useless coaches don't pick them is beyond my control......but I feel vindicated in my calls given how poor the S15 and tests under Meyer are......for these clowns keep selecting the wrong players.

My Bok side would be world beaters

The problem with Mozart remains one thing and one thing only.  He is extremely prejudiced against any player that may be in competition against his favourites.   That means that he would denigrate players and do not mind using misinterpretations to try and prove how really bad they are according to him.  The other angle is he tries to hide the poor performances of his favourites and if that cannot help the excuses flows like lava.
According to Mozart whenever you have expressed an opinion on a player's performances at the time - that remains indefinitely.  Changed circumstances as a result of performance improvement by the player is not allowed.  His own assessments can change - but then he is dead quiet about his previous comments on the same player.
He is still raving about some players who have been handicaps in the Springbok team - players like Alberts, Morne Steyn, Frans Steyn, Jacque Fourie, Matfield to name a few.  He does not want to see that they are not up to standard anymore and that ravings will not help in team selection.  So what will he says when we remind his opinion of those players in future?

Moz is like Meyer.....equally crap at making calls on players.....hence the results....45% in the last 18 months.

We need to call Moz the 45% man!!
